After playing in the fall with Hoffenheim's U-19 team, American Charles Renken is returning to MLS
where he will join the Portland Timbers of MLS.
It may have have happened in a loss, but Fabian Johnson scored his first goal for TSG 1899
Hoffenheim on Saturday.
Johnson opened his account with the club he joined last summer by netting in the second half of
Hoffenheim's 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Johnson got on the end of a low cross and one-timed a
powerful shot into the back of the net to prevent Hoffenheim from getting shut out for a second
consecutive game.
Steve Cherundolo and Hannover will try to trip up Nurnberg for their first league win since October
while the trio of Americans at Hoffenheim will try to trip up Dortmund's title ambitions.
Aston Villa will be the host team of yet another Philadelphia Union player on trial, according
to soccer agent Richard Motzkin.
Former first overall SuperDraft pick Danny Mwanga will train with Aston Villa, of the English
Premier League, for ten days. Mwanga joins Freddy Adu (Rayo Vallecano), Michael Farfan
(Sunderland), Zac MacMath (Everton), Amobi Okugo (SC Freiburg), Sebastien Le Toux (Bolton
Wanderers) and Zach Pfeffer (Hoffenheim) as members of the Union that have spent time training with
overseas clubs prior to the 2012 MLS season.

All American eyes Friday are on Goodison Park, where Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey do battle
in Everton and Fulham's FA Cup match, but there's another game in Europe that is of importance to
Americans abroad as well.
Timmy Chandler's FC Nurnberg and Steve Cherundolo's Hannover 96 are slated to go up against one
another in a Bundesliga match that should be featuring the present and future of U.
Three Yanks featured in the Bundesliga on Saturday with Danny Williams and Fabian Johnson playing
for Hoffenheim, while Steve Cherundolo lined up on the opposite side for Hannover 96.
African All-Stars: 7 Players to watch at Africa Cup of Nations 2012 is a post from: Just

"I think it is a responsibility for every proper club in Europe to go to the Africa Cup of
Nations to see what the market brings and what hidden talents are running around in Africa,"
Hoffenheim scout Lutz Pfannenstiel told the BBC on the eve of the African Cup of Nations 2012.
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a small article selecting the best eleven in Europe who wear the
number thirteen shirt. I thought I'd look into this subject further and I believe that if you take
the top five leagues in Europe (Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England) that the highest number
you can make an eleven from (you need a goalkeeper remember) is 33.
Last summer, Liverpool rather famously spent big on players who created chances. To many, they
paid far too much for far too little and the results haven't lived up to the expenditure, but
regardless of whether one agreed with the approach at least there was a clearly identifiable
approach: Find the Premier League players who created the most scoring opportunities and then start
throwing money in their general direction.
After a promising first season at Liverpool, Ryan Babel found himself continually warming the bench
during his time at Anfield, and the Dutch International - who currently plays for Hoffenheim in the
Bundesliga - has now accused his former club of 'mismanagement'.In a frank interview with Sport1
Voetbalmagazine, Babel revealed that he was not impressed with the way he was managed at
Liverpool:"

Editor's note: At the end of the 2010 season, we posted a series of season reviews of every
Philadelphia Union player. Over the next several weeks PSP continues with a review of the 2011
season.
Zach Pfeffer was signed as the Union's first Homegrown player before the beginning of the 2011
season at the ripe old age of 15.
Hoffenheim's Fabian Johnson set up a pair of goals for former St. Louis University striker Vedad
Ibieviand#263; on Saturday afternoon, in a game also highlighted by Timothy Chandler's sending off
as the Hoffe took all the points in Nurnberg's Frankenstadion.
Hoffenheim's pair of Americans will try to guide the team out of their five-game slide in Nurnberg
while Steve Cherundolo and Hannover will try to turn their streak around against Leverkusen.
United States Men's National Team head coach Caleb Porter named five Philadelphia Union players
as part of his 28-man roster for the Olympic squad's December camp, today. The Union players make
up the largest group of club teammates on the team.
Freddy Adu, Zac MacMath, Jack McInerney, Amobi Okugo and Sheanon Williams will head to Florida
from December 15-28 to train with the rest of the under-23 team at the Premier Sports Campus.
Caleb Porter has named a 28-man roster for his first camp in charge of the U.S. U-23 men's
national team, and there's talent aplenty.
Freddy Adu, Teal Bunbury, Mikkel Diskerud and Bill Hamid are just some of the more well-known
names in the eight-day camp that will be held in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

heading to Europe for some extra training is no longer just the extra-curriculars of David Beckham
and Thierry Henry. Now young Major League Soccer players and U.S. National Team players are getting
time with clubs all across the continent.
Hoffenheim man's sweary exchange with TV character Ex-Liverpool star Ryan Babel picked an unlikely
fight with kids' cartoon character Spongebob Squarepants over his smoking habits. The Hoffenheim
attacker explained on Twitter how he fell out with a children's entertainer dressed as the TV
character this week.
As the US national team concluded its 2011 schedule with a 3-2 win over Slovenia, one of the most
impressive new faces on the team is Hoffenheim midfielder Fabian Johnson.
Midway through his second season at Hoffenheim, US Olympic team prospect Joseph-Claude Gyau feels
the recent influx of German talent and direction will only help his own country's game grow.
With a lot of recent rumours linking Arsenal to full backs such as
Andreas Beck of Hoffenheim and Porto's Alvaro Pereira, maybe Arsene Wenger might be on the lookout
for another defender. But is he in for a LB or RB, Pereira is more left sided whilst Beck can play
both.
Having already signed three national captains over the summer, it appears that Arsène Wenger wants
another excellent leader at the Emirates, with Hoffenheim skipper Andreas Beck seemingly next on
the Arsenal transfer target list. Despite the arrival of Carl Jenkinson, Wenger is reportedly
planning a swoop on the player – which could be of up [.
Renken (middle) is Back in Camp with the Natinoal TeamWe spoke to midfielder Charles Renken about his experience in this U-23 Men's National Team Camp.
The midfielder seems like he has been around awhile - he was in Residency in 2008 - but he's still
only 17 figures to be a part of Tab Ramos' player pool during the U-20 cycle.

The U.S. men's national team faces its first World Cup 2010 rematch on Tuesday against the same
Slovenia side the Americans earned a dramatic 2-2 draw against in World Cup group play.
Jurgen Klinsmann will look to find the right combination of players to help a sagging offense
that has managed just two goals in six matches since he took over as head coach.
Nick learned tonight: If you come in the snack room during the evening hours, you may get
blogged about.Royal-Dominique Fennell plays for Stuttgarter Kickers in the German Regionalliga Süd - the fourth
division. It's actually the club where current MNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann got his start.
With the US U-23 team in camp in Germany, one player who is making his highly anticipated return to
US youth national teams is Hoffenheim midfielder Charles Renken.
Where Jurgen Klinsmann spent his weekend
U.S. men's national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann took advantage of his trip to Europe to stop
over and watch a trio of his players at their club addresses.
He was in Germany on Saturday to watch Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams at Hoffenheim, where
the Bundesliga side drew 1-1 with Kaiserslautern.
The U.S. men's national team returns to action on Friday with a match-up against France, a match
that should tell us plenty about the current state of Jurgen Klinsmann's team.
Klinsmann will have a strong group to choose from for Friday's match. Both Landon Donovan and
Clint Dempsey will be available, and German-born Fabian Johnson is set to make his national team
debut.

Juergen Klinsmann picked 22 players for the U.S. men's national team friendlies at France on
Nov. 11 (3 p.m. ET, ESPN2, Univision, ESPN3.com) and Slovenia on Nov. 15 (noon ET, ESPN2,
Galavision, ESPN3.com).
A few surprises but mostly what you would expect from Klinsmann at this point. It seems as
though Orozco Fiscal has replaced Jonathan Bornstein as the weird defensive call-up that makes no
sense.
*Midfielder Jose Villarreal, a Leuzinger High product, and defender Zarek Valentin, who made 24
