Originally, this was set to be posted yesterday morning as a commemoration of sorts to the victims of the 1989 Hillsborough Tragedy. While polishing the post and gathering a few accompanying photos, Ireceiveda text message alerting me to the fact that something terrible had occurred near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
Liverpool's principal owner John Henry has praised the perseverance of the Hillsborough families in their campaign for justice, admitting he was "humbled" by their dignity. The American, significantly making his first appearance at the annual service to remember those who died in the 1989 disaster, gave a reading before addressing thousands assembled on the Kop at Anfield.
We'll do the match infographic tomorrow, even if that makes it a little less timely. Today's not for football.

Today is a day to remember the 96 men, women and children who died as a result of the Hillsborough Disaster that occurred 24 years ago today on April 15, 1989.
If you live in the United States, you may want to observe a minute's silence at 10:06am ET, which is 3:06pm BST in the UK, which is the same time 24 years ago when the tragedy began.
Earlier this week, BBC2 in Britain premiered a brand-new television documentary that revisits the Hillsborough tragedy in light of the recent findings.
The 90-minute documentary is a haunting and sobering documentary that has a magnetism that pulls you in closer to the subject matter. It's expertly filmed and edited, and I urge you to watch it if you want to not only learn about some of the new findings regarding the Hillsborough tragedy, but also to better understand the terrible fear and horror that the family members had to go through for 23 long years.
With Liverpool in town on Sunday for the FA Cup third round, Mansfield have paid a small tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster by putting the names of the 96 people who died on that tragic day on 96 seats between the home and away fans that will be purposefully left unused during today's game at Field Mill.
To honor the 96 victims of the 1989 Hilllsborough disaster and show support for the growing campaign for justice, non-league side Mansfield Town have marked 96 seats that will be left empty at their Field Mill ground for their FA Cup third-round tie against Liverpool. Cards bearing the names of each person who died at the FA Cup semifinal between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest have been attached to the empty seats that willseparatethe home and away fans at the 7,574-capacity ground for a poignant show of respect and support.
The Royal Ink tattoo parlour in Liverpool recently put on a fund-raising day for the Hillsborough families by offering 96 Liverpool fans 'JFT96′ tattoos in return for a minimum £9.60 donation to the charity.
One brave/foolish fan (delete as you see fit) was even lucky/unfortunate (again, delete as you see fit) to talk Martin Skrtel into putting the finishing touches to his tattoo.
In an attempt to raise money for the families of the Hillsborough disaster victims and their pursuit of justice, 96 fans got tattooed at a shop in Liverpool. Only one man was brave enough to let Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, who had never tattooed anything in his life prior to this, do the tattooing.
The Liverpool Echo stated that ninety-six fans have pledged to receive tattoos on December 16, 2012. The fans are joining together on this day to raise money for the families of the Hillsborough Tragedy.
Tattooist Will Holmes of Royal Ink in Anfield organized the fundraiser and posted his idea on Facebook.

Yesterday had to be a good day if you were a Man Utd fan not only because of the 2-1 win over fierce rivals Liverpool but also because of the way the supporters overcame the pressure of global media focus. Despite the intense focus of the English "paparazzi" media, the whole event went off with the precision of a military funeral, except for a couple of offenders at the end of the match who spoilt the party.

It was so coincidental it seem planned, but Liverpool's match after the Hillsborough ruling was Manchester United, their greatest rivals. Never has this match had so much extra situation attached to it. Would the fans behave? Sir Alex sent a special letter to all away fans that made it clear this occasion was about far more than the football.
1. Another trip to Anfield, another dire Manchester United performance. I'm not entirely sure what it is about that place but we haven't put in a good performance there for years. Even when Liverpool went down to ten men we didn't look better than them, it just seemed to even things out. We conceded possession far too easily, there was little fight in the players and we didn't test the goalie anywhere near enough.

The two sides have met too many times to mention in their history and whilst the rivalry is something that cannot be compared to, on Sunday Anfield will appeal to everyone in the ground, just for a moment, to put that rivalry aside.

Manchester United supporters traveling to Anfield for Sunday's match against Liverpool will be given a letter written by Sir Alex Ferguson urging a waking of conscience in an effort to prevent any chants about Hillsborough on the day of a tribute to the victims.
The match will be Liverpool's first at home since the publication of a report revealing the wrong doing and police cover-up surrounding the death of 96 fans at Hillsborough in 1989.
On this special edition of Radio Cuju, Richard and Ginge discuss the Hillsborough disaster. We tell the story of what happened on that day in April 1989, discuss the finding of the independent panel released this week and the potential aftermath as the truth appears to, at long lost, be coming out.

As well as listing the names of each of the victims of that terrible day, a young boy and girl, dressed in Everton and Liverpool kits and with a nine and six on their backs, held hands in the middle of the pitch.

Joey Barton: The enigmatic figure of English football - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Apart from his footballing skills, what sets Joey Barton apart from the rest are his antics off the field and no other footballer (bar Mario Balotelli) can divide opinions as much as the Marseille midfielder does.
We live in tumultuous times. It has frequently felt over the last few days, weeks and months as if the edifices of twentieth century Britain are starting to be dismantled, and football is not free from the times being a-changing. When the independent panel released its findings into the Hillsborough disaster of 1989, it felt like a watershed moment.
In the last few weeks we have seen that our footballing family in Liverpool have finally been provided with the facts about Hillsborough. Firstly I want to applaud the various groups who have never given up in their fight for the truth.
We now know that crowd management failed, and that the ground was an accident waiting to happen yet the FA and Police saw no reason to move the game to a safer venue.

Lord Justice Goldring has today been appointed as the coroner to oversee the new inquests into the Hillsborough disaster. A 23-year battle for justice on behalf of the 96 Liverpool supporters who lost their lives in April 1989 saw a series of breakthroughs in 2012. The publication of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report into the tragedy in September laid bare the truth of what happened on that day and prompted an apology to the families by Prime Minister David Cameron.
The Attorney General's attempt to overturn the original Hillsborough inquest verdicts will be heard on 19 December. Dominic Grieve made the application to the High Court in the wake of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's damning report into the 1989 disaster, which caused the deaths of 96 Liverpool supporters.
The TRUTH is finally out and justice WILL follow. May the 96 Liverpool fans who tragically lost their lives at Hillsbrough rest in peace and may they never walk alone. Always in our hearts & minds.

The original Hillsborough inquest verdicts were quashed in the High Court on Wednesday, with a new investigation led by Jon Stoddart announced. Following an application by the Attorney General Dominic Grieve, the Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge and two other judges ordered fresh inquests, quashing the original accidental death inquest verdicts after 96 Liverpool supporters died 23 years ago.
Kenny Dalglish has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson was one of the first people to offer his help to Liverpool after the Hillsborough disaster.
"When the Hillsborough disaster happened back in 1989, Sir Alex Ferguson was straight on the phone to offer his help in any way he could," Dalglish said.
Everton and Liverpool are fierce rivals, but the neighbors share a unique bond not fond among all rivals. That much was evident on Monday, when Everton paid tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy before Monday's match at Goodison Park against Newcastle.
