First it looked like the Spanish clubs weren't going to play, but now they are. And then it looked like the Italian clubs were going to play, but not maybe they'll go on strike. It's really difficult to tell what's going on from one day to another, but we're going ahead as if everybody is playing this weekend because that's the way I like it.

In der letzten Saison erreichte der Hertha BSC sein Ziel des Wiederaufstiegs. Für die kommende steht bereits das nächste Ziel an: der Klassenerhalt. Der Aufenthalt in der zweiten Liga ist Vergangenheit und soll es auch bleiben. Trainer Markus Babbel kam nach fünf Wochen Urlaub in die Hauptstadt zurück und freut sich auf die ihm bevorstehende Arbeit.

In wenigen Wochen ist es soweit, Deutschland richtet ab dem 26. Juni die Weltmeisterschaft im Frauenfussball aus. An mir jedenfalls, ist das bisher komplett vorbei gegangen und da bin ich sicher nicht der Einzige. Klar geb ich zu das ich Aufgrund der Qualität und Spielweise der Frauen lieber richtigen Fussball gucke, aber da im Sommer eh Pause ist und es keine anderen Spiele gibt, werd ich mich für die Frauen-WM interessieren und unsere deutschen Damen kräftig unterstützen.

One fortunate, flipper-clad lady that also happens to be named Hertha went as far as securing herself a sponsorship deal with the club.

Dortmund v Schalke is arguably the fiercest derby in German football

Two games take place in Germany this weekend with local pride as well as three points at stake. The games in question, however, highlight the differing fortunes between football in the west and east of the country. The 1. Bundesliga on Friday night sees the biggest derby in German football between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 whilst Saturday afternoon, in contrast, witnesses a very different contest in the country's second division between capital clubs 1.

The derby with no history?
In a weeks time European Football Weekends will join 75,000 fans in the Olympiastadion to watch Hertha take on Union in the Berlin derby. David Tunnicliffe, an Englishman living in Germany, gives us the heads up on the history, or lack of it, between these two great teams.
