Henry Winter believes Kenny Dalglish's outburst following the Bolton defeat is "unprecedented" in
the history of Liverpool Football Club.
The Reds boss publically criticized members of his squad following the 3-1 loss at the Reebok
Stadium, accusing them of showing a lack of respect to their opponents and being distracted by
Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final second leg with Manchester City and next weekend's FA Cup clash
with Manchester United.

Not too bad a game at the Bridge today. Good fare I say.

Yeah, that was fucking awesome. Anyone else in need of a new set of vocal chords after that

On his 25th anniversary, Sir Alex is being hailed as one of the greatest managers of all time.
Rightly so. He possesses the four qualities that shape the finest leaders of footballing men: he
buys well, bonds well, prepares well and exudes an aura. Never underestimate the power of an aura
in a sport where psychology is key.

The qualification for Euro 2012 is almost done. England will be in Poland and/or Ukraine next
summer after comfortably finishing top of Group G, albeit by handing Motenegro an unlikely point
and a place in the play-offs in the final game. Ireland also made it to the play-offs, and could be
drawn against Montenegro, but Wales and Scotland miss out once again.
Rafa Benitez was probably stealing the job of a deserving Englishman, and that's bad. But Joe
Cole might be stealing the job of a Frenchman now, so that kind of balances it all out. Maybe.
Mostly I'm just confused. In any case, I think this is the Wednesday news and notes.
Probably...

The question comes up time and again: "Is there still such a thing as mainstream football
media?"
I'll leave the question aside in a North American context, but there clearly is in some parts of
the world, namely England, where the football league's tussle with the mainstream press over the
latter's reluctance to be monetarily extorted has resulted in some interesting apologetics, most
notably from the Telegraph's Henry Winter.
News involving the fitness of two of the club's bigger names, so let's get right to it:
* There's a time and place for "I told you so," and while right now might seem like it's right
time, I'd urge you to reconsider, if for no other reason than the fact that the ongoing fitness (or
lack thereof) of Liverpool's captain has become something of a sensitive issue.

48 hours on and the postmortem into the club's untimely demise
continues apace. Writing in today's Telegraph, Henry Winter states West Ham's shambles of a season
has soiled the name of a once-respected club.
Perhaps it is a sign of the times. No longer are writers and journalists dusty old moaners with

So that was the Champions League. Fun, wasn't it? As I took my place in the
upper tier of the West Stand at White Hart Lane for the second leg of Spurs'
quarter-final with Real Madrid my thoughts turned to what I had written on my own
blog back in August:
I'm able to look upon Spurs' impending Champions League campaign as the beginning of a
glorious adventure.
Henry Winter writes of how the English Premier League is taking inspiration from the world of
music and dance in regards to a potential drastic overhaul of the current academy system.
At the Menuhin music school, each budding virtuoso has 10,840 hours of contact time in their
development years, three times the football figure.
I talk to our players regularly about how small the margin is between victory and defeat.
