A few things...

Fast, but now a shade less than furious... #1 - Let's begin with weekend American goalscorers, shall we? Let's all say it together, now: Charlie Davies can't stop scoring! Sadly, his ninth of the season (media player link) came in a 5-1 loss to Helsingborgs. Nevertheless, CD currently sits third in the Allsvenskan goal chart, one goal and slot behind Helsingborgs star Henrik Larsson. Click to continue reading...

Euro 2008 Wrapup

3
The deserving team won. Spain played a very good tournament, got lucky in the right moments, and ultimately outclassed each team that came in their way. It was nice to see a team based mostly upon purely skillful players win the cup. They also had the star forward in Fernando Torres, and although he didn't have a great tournament, he still came through in the key moment and got the goal that so many that have come before him couldn't get. Russia Hour

After a certain, indefinable point, failure becomes a default option. Like the South Korean team who, for so long seemed capable of doing everything but winning a match in the World Cup finals, so it was with Russia. Would they ever get past the group stages of a major tournament again? The answer to that, finally, is yes, and they managed it some style this evening with a win against Sweden that was the best performance that I can remember having seen from either a Russian or Soviet team. Euro 2008: Day 8

0
Spain 2-1 Sweden
I expected this to be a tougher game for Spain, because Sweden are more disciplined team and weren't likely to push forward and leave space for them the way Russia did in the opening match. Although Spain had the vast majority of both the possession and shots on goal, it was more difficult for them to get in behind the defenders and create clear chances (plus, all the Swedish players were about a foot taller than the Spanish ones).
