Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-3 Liverpool Premier League 31st January 2012
Liverpool boosted their top four chances with an impressive victory over Wolves at Molineux on
Tuesday night, while Andy Carroll celebrated the first anniversary of his move to Merseyside with a
much-needed goal.
Back down to Earth for Liverpool, as they travel to the West Midlands to face 19th-place
Wolverhampton. It's a stark contrast from the action of the past week, facing opposition at the
bottom of the table, away from Anfield, and with nothing immediately at stake. And if you've paid
attention to Liverpool at all this season, it's cause for concern, with form against the mid- and
lower-table sides worlds apart from the displays we've seen the last two times out.
Just seen this on Twitter:
Paul Robinson (12) has conceded 4 more goals from outside the box this season than any other
keeper in the league (Wayne Hennessey 8)
I have been banging on about Paul Robinson not being a good goalkeeper for years now. He is very
good at the reflex stuff that look good on TV, but consistently posts saves/shots ratios that are
worse than most other goalkeepers, mainly because he seems hugely vulnerable to shots from a bit
further out.

Arsenal's lack of an alternative cutting edge to Robin van Persie was once again evident in
their 1-1 draw with Wolves at the Emirates on Tuesday. While the home side peppered the Wolves'
goal with shots in that game, they couldn't find a way past Wayne Hennessey.
The German defender Per Mertesacker was just one of the Arsenal players that were denied a goal by
Wayne Hennessey in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Wolves, but despite the small setback he is still
certain that the Gunners will be moving back into the Champions League places very shortly. "We had
a big chance to [.
Arsenal's summer signing Mikel Arteta has backed manager Arsene Wenger's belief that there was
no lack of effort from the Gunners in their 1-1 draw at home to the Wolverhampton Wanderers
yesterday.
The hosts, who led through an early goal from Gervinho, were punished when Steven Fletcher
struck an equalizer right before the interval.

Looking back on yesterday's game in the cold light of day there's still frustration and
disappointment, to a fair degree, but I can't really find any real issue with how we played, how we
went about the game and the effort we put in.
I know there are people this morning who will bemoan our finishing and say we should have scored
considering the chances we fashioned.
Arsenal 1-1 Wolves
Twenty-seven attempts on goal, eleven attempts on target, thirteen corners, one goal. Frustrating,
to say the least. The goals have dried up again at home (three in three league games – conceding
two in the process), giving Wenger a fresh headache to mull over as we head into the New Year.
Another one stopped
The final outcome was a result that we did not need and with Tottenham winning their latter game
at Carrow Road, it makes me very uncomfortable with the gap that is opening up slightly between us.
This was a chance to move ahead of Chelsea into 4th spot. It ended up being as frustrating a match
to watch.

First of all. I'm happy to have been wrong about todays result and will never again sell Wolves
short. We are fighters and I consider all ten out there the last 21 minutes of the game as nothing
less than heroes. Most of the praise must of course go to our Welsh wonder-warrior Wayne Hennessey.

Arsenal missed the chance to go fourth in the Premier League as they were denied by a series of
saves from Wayne Hennessey when being held to a 1-1 draw by Wolves at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners, without a defeat to Wolves since 1979, were looking to capitalise on a draw between
Chelsea and Fulham on Boxing Day and took the lead after only eight minutes whenGervinho beat
the offside trap to score his fourth goal of the season.

Arsenal's ambition to improve position in the league was halted again as the Gunners only picked
up one point from their home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.
A quick goal by Gervinho didn't resulted in a goal flowing result for the home team as their
visitor managed to pick up an equalizer through Steven Fletcher, and hold it until the final
whistle.

Arsenal 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers Premier League 27th December 2011.
Arsenal's old failings came back to haunt them at the Emirates in their rearranged clash with
Wolves. Despite having a hugely superior amount of possession and firing in countess efforts on
goal, the home side still came unstuck, conceding a sloppy goal and failing to make the most of
their dominance.
Sometimes one huffs and puffs, one huffs and puffs some more, but the house just won't blow down
and that's just what happened against Wolves today. There may be an element down to slight
weaknesses in our squad, Rosicky and Benayoun are very similar to each other and both started
today, but I have to say the main problems today were Wayne Hennessey, bad luck and poor finishing

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Stoke City Premier League 17th December 2011
You have to hand it to Tony Pulis, you really do. For all the (often justified) criticism of his
team's tactics and style of play, Stoke continue to ground out decent results season after season,
never looking like getting themselves embroiled in a relegation dogfight.
Well that was better wasn't it. The game was over at half time and it was much more like the
Chelsea performance we should be seeing week in, week out. Whether or not other sides would be as
generous as Wolves were is another thing, but for once Chelsea took full advantage.
AVB had said prior to the game that there would be no dramatic changes to the side from Leverkusen
and he made just two changes.
A key aspect of every Premier League side is the addition of new players in the summer. With the
league table starting to take a definitive shape, we look at some of the best and worst signings
from this past window, based on their performances thus far.
Winner: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City
Roberto Mancini may not be utilizing another free-scoring Argentine, but the addition of "Kun"
Aguero from Atletico Madrid has rendered Carlos Tevez almost irrelevant.

Wales whooped Norway 4-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium to make it three wins in a row, but the

Hennessey's little brain fart aside, Wales scored a couple of stunning goals with Gareth Bale's
angled opener and Craig Bellamy's top-corner curler definitely worth a watch.

Butterfingers Wales let Norway back into their friendly clash this afternoon after a howler from
Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey. Collecting a simple ball into the box, Hennessey fumbled the ball
forwards into the shins of defender Darcy Blake. Norway's Eric Huseklepp was left with the simple
task of tapping the ball into the empty net.
There is no doubt in my mind that the mistake by Wayne Hennessey turned out to be the major
decisive moment in this game, but it could easily have been one of the two shots that Wayne parried
in the first half of the game instead. A decisive moment in our favour could also have [...]
A Return to Winning Ways | Liverpool 2 – 1 Wolves
AnfieldIndex Liverpool FC Stats | Liverpool FC Blog | Liverpool FC Forum The way you feel at the
final whistle usually best encapsulates the performance your team has given that day. After
Sunderland there was frustration, Arsenal optimism, Bolton euphoria, Stoke disbelief at how we
hadn't won, and depression at Spurs.
Match Review: Liverpool 2 Wolves 1
Liverpool bounced back from their defeat against Spurs with three points against Wolves at
Anfield yesterday. The win ended a spell of two league defeats for the Reds and saw them climb back
up to 6th in the table claim their first September Premier League win since the 6-1 victory over
Hull City in 2009.
Liverpool returned to winning ways but made hard work of it at home to Wolves as defensive
frailties and equally-fragile confidence levels were almost exposed for a third successive
week.
Everything appeared to be going to plan as a Roger Johnson own goal, diverting in Charlie Adam's
shot, and another magical Luis Suarez strike appeared to have put the Reds in the comfort zone at
half-time.
With Liverpool clinging to a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute, the Anfield faithful rose and gave a
rousing ovation at the sight of a green No. 8 being held on the fourth official's board, signifying
the first Anfield appearance by captain Steven Gerrard since last spring.
Gerrard's highly anticipated home appearance came in place of Luis Suarez, and the striker made no
attempt to hide his anger at being lifted from such a close contest.
Liverpool 2-1 Wolves | Premier League match report
His achievements have given Kenny Dalglish a line of credit not available to the likes of UBS or
Northern Rock. He could have survived an early exit from the Carling Cup and a home defeat by
Wolverhampton Wanderers, which so bankrupted Roy Hodgson's regime.
Goals:Johnson (og) 12'
Suarez 38'
Fletcher 46'
Phew. Excellent, if direct, first half. Terrifying, nerve-shredding second. This team doesn't do
anything the easy way.
Despite Wolves running at defenders for the first five to ten minutes, snuffed out by Enrique in
open play and Carroll on set pieces, Liverpool settled with another early strike.
Liverpool 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers: Suarez scores as Reds march on
Another scintillating performance from Luis Suarez inspired Liverpool to a 2-1 win over
Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield. The Uruguayan's fourth goal of the season and a Roger Johnson
own goal helped Liverpool on their way to victory.
Liverpool look to tomorrow's match with an eye to getting back on track in league after losing
two straight, but can take a few positives from the League Cup win over Brighton on Wednesday.
Similar story for Wolves, who've also lost two straight after starting the season with two
consecutive wins.
This match will always be remembered for Robert Earnshaw's point blank miss and a blinding
fingertip save from Joe Hart that kept Chris Gunter out. As it stands Ashley Young's goal sweeping
Stuart Downing's cross past Wayne Hennessey made the difference and kept England rolling towards
Euro 2012 qualification.
There are empty seats at Wembley this evening. The FA's hyperbolic per-match ticket advertising
for this match may have made inferences to this being the match that everybody wants to see, but
the fact that the advertisements were on display anywhere at all told its own story. There are red
dots pock-marking the background at the national stadium this evening, betraying the feeling that
this match is more of a tussle than a battle of Britain.
In our final View from the Enemy preview, David Johnston from the Wolves Offside blog has talked
to us about his hopes for Wolves this season.
Scott the Red: Were you happy with your team's performance last season?
David Johnston: I think in the first two seasons in the top flight the target has to be
survival.
Socceroos defeat of Wales: a sign of things to come - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
The Socceroos' upcoming World Cup campaign looks on firm ground. This morning's friendly against
Wales showed the evident class of both sides' top players, but a workmanlike Australia were the
superior team against a side whose Premier League pedigree belies it's FIFA ranking of 119.
Every club makes mistakes, some large ones too such as Juan Sebastian Veron, Andriy Shevchenko,
and Jose Antonio Reyes just to name a few. As Spurs fans we've also seen some large transfers go
wrong over the years. Names that spring to mind are Sergei Rebrov (£10m), Dean Richards (£8m) and
more recently David Bentley (£15m).

With four matches still to play in February, including the thrilling prospect of tomorrow's
Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona, many speculated that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
might begin to dig deeper into his squad players. However, during Saturday's 2-0 victory over
Wolverhampton Wanderers, the jewels in Arsenal's crown, Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas, both
started and made huge impacts, with Van Persie scoring both goals.
Saturday's match against Wolves was the ideal way to set the mood for Wednesday's clash with
Barcelona. Robin Van Persie was in great form as he finished both goals for us. The rest of the
squad was also up to the task, and this is evident in the fact that Wolverhampton had 0 shots on
goal, and only 2 shots to begin with.
