The 2012 European Championship commences exactly four months from today, and England is looking
for a new manager.
In a monumental development, Fabio Capello resigned from the helm of the English national team
on Wednedsay. Capello had been public in his defense of John Terry after the FA stripped the
Chelsea centerback of his international captaincy amid his involvement in a racial abuse
scandal.

Arsenal does not really do transitional seasons, or does it? Somehow, through the magic of
Wenger, we have been able to rebuild squads and first teams without losing sight of silverware and
European football in every single season the Frenchman has been at the helm.
It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Naturally, I'm describing Arsenal's
2011-2012 season. I'm a nice guy, and I don't want to hold Arsene wholly accountable for the team's
woes, particularly due to the simple fact that, well, that's what everybody else already does.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has called on his team to raise their game as his club pursue
victory in their League Cup campaign and continue to cling on to their fast fading hopes of
Champions League qualification. Gerrard's side have struggled in recent games in spite of heavy
investment in the squad by manager Kenny Dalglish at the start of the current campaign - and even a
recent return to fitness and form of the talismanic Gerrard has not been enough to stop the club
sliding to 7th in the Premier League table.
Do you ever expect to win the league again while Wenger is manager at Arsenal?
I was listening to Talk Sport the other evening (I know, I know) when suddenly
they posed that question and it struck me like a bolt of lightning. I don't usually take too much
notice of the anti-Arsenal rhetoric that Adrian Durham spews out.
I did a check on the respective results of Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish and Roy Hodgson before
him from August to January in 2010 for Hodgson and in 2011 for Dalglish.
After our stalemate against Stoke last weekend, I felt it was time to step back and see the
improvements in results at Liverpool since Kenny took over from the disasterous days under Roy
Hodgson.

No better source than the kid's own mouth.
Glad to see that the club has finally wrapped this deal up. It's been a highly disappointing
season for McEachran thus far, with the player finding it damn near impossible to break into the
first team at Chelsea under Andre Villas-Boas.
A.J. DeLaGarza enters his second consecutive January camp with seasoning and success under his
belt, and with a new coach at the helm comes a new opportunity to represent the United States. The
diminutive centerback will be looking to take advantage of his three weeks training as he seeks his
first cap with the full National Team.
LFC: 'We are a force under Kenny'

Remember when Brad Evans was essentially the eleventh man I put out because I didn't have anyone
else the vital cog in my last league champion team? Juergen Klinsmann did, or at least he did when
I called him up on the phone and reminded him. So now Brad is going to help the USMNT take the next

Javier Aguirre has been fired by Real Zaragoza terminated, the La Liga club confirmed on Friday
morning. Zaragoza are bottom of La Liga, having lost eight of their last nine league games.
A statement on the club's official website www.realzaragoza.com read:
"Late last night on Thursday, December 29, Real Zaragoza reached an agreement with Javier

It's common knowledge that firstly,
Alex handed in a transfer request that has been accepted by
Chelsea and he is expected to leave next month. Secondly,
Florent Malouda has spoken out
about leaving the club if he doesn't play more football and finally, Carlo Ancelotti will be named
the new PSG manager this afternoon.
Sean Johnson got his first cap with the full team last January
Three players
from the U-23 December camp roster will be moving up to the full team next month when the group
gathers for their annual January training camp.
Teal Bunbury and Sean Johnson are veterans of last year's camp.
To wrap things up with the "What I Want For Christmas" series, we'll begin with a bit of a

In all of this discussion, we've curiously ignored tactics for the most part.

AVB craziness Last time Chelsea had a Portuguese manager there was usually a whirlwind of
conspiracy theories and paranoia swirling around. But with Jose Mourinho at the helm it was usually
created for the benefit of the club. Under Andre Villas Boas it seems the manager himself is the
biggest victim.

When U.S. Soccer sealed the deal to make Jurgen Klinsmann head coach of the men's national team,
it was evident that the federation was making a big investment in Klinsmann and his outlook for the
program. Now it's clear just how big that investment was.
What are the odds Rafael Benitez is the next Sunderland manager? Derek McGovern's Bets
of the Day
Usually by this time of the year, you can bet that all the leaves have fallen along with at
least one Premier League manager. But we are fast approaching December with the 20 managers who
were at the helm on day one in August still in control.
Sunday afternoon we have a very entertaining clash in Sicily where Lazio manager Delio Rossi
returns to his old stomping ground bringing his new Fiorentina squads to the stadio Barbara. Delio
Rossi recently took over at the helm at the Viola after Sinisa Miahjlovic was sacked during the
international week.
I have this habit of over-estimating Cardiff in recent years and I'm hoping that habit continues,
because I think a trip to their ground is a daunting prospect. An overtly talented squad at their
disposal last year did have the considerable drag factor of manager Dave Jones to counterweight it,
whilst now a more sensibly assembled collection of players is enhanced by the undeniable talent of
Malky Mackay at the helm [.
His technique is exquisite. His movement is terrific. His vision is breathtaking. His quality is
unquestionable.
He is 22 years of age. He is one of the Bundesliga's hottest properties. His name is Marco Reus,
and he is the latest star to emerge from German football.
After a blistering start to the season, Reus has been thrust into the spotlight, and many top
clubs around Europe have taken notice of his fine performances.
Liverpool legend Phil Neal won an astonishing 4 European Cups as a player at Anfield, and he played
alongside some fantastic goalkeepers, including Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar. Clearly, he
knows a good keeper when he sees one, and Pepe Reina is no exception.
Speaking on LFC TV, Neal paid a glowing tribute to Liverpool's shot-stopper:
"He's the best goalkeeper in the Premiership, and for Spain.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Weeks after the club parted ways with Steve Nicol, the Revolution announced
more changes as Chief Operating Officer Brian Bilello and Vice President of Player Personnel
Michael Burns were promoted to President and General Manager, respectively.
The promotions, which are effective immediately, give the organization greater transparency, not
to mention accountability, to the club's organizational structure something that was direly needed
of under the helm of former president Sunil Gulati, who will now assume the role of special advisor
to the Kraft Group and the Kraft Family.
Manager's withdrawal from friendly would've been deemed step too far! England manager Fabio Capello

partner, Tiziana, in Milan on the same day.

Manchester United's long serving manager is considered to be one of the best in the world. He is
at the helm since 1986, and presently has no signs of retiring.
Alexander Chapman "Alex" Ferguson currently has 12 Premier League championships, and helped beat
Liverpool's 18 league championships in 2010-11 season.
'Only Kenny could have done it'
Kevin Keegan believes only Kenny Dalglish was capable of masterminding the turnaround in

At least while at the helm of the Seattle Sounders.
I know Sigi Schmid would like nothing better than return to the area where he grew up and
coached his hometown Galaxy and play his old club come November at MLS Cup in Carson. But first he
needs to win an actual postseason game or two.
It's strange to think that a coach with as many wins and as much experience as Schmid has never
won a playoff game in three seasons in Seattle, let alone a series, but it's true.
Responses to poor performances Manchester United If United win at Everton on Saturday lunchtime
then Alex Ferguson can put last weekend's shenanigans down to a mental block from his players, and
console himself that if he has just one mindf*ck in 25 years at the helm, all is relatively well.

Steven Gerrard believes Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has proved himself a worthy candidate to
succeed Fabio Capello as England manager next year.
Capello will step down from the post after the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine next
summer, having taken the helm in 2008.
Three Lions midfielder Gerrard believes the Football Association should appoint an English manager
in his place, with Redknapp already tipped as a favourite for the role.
Buying gifts for men can be a tricky thing to get just right. If you believe the conventional
and possibly comedic thinking, then you might decide to stick to practical things like DIY

After 10 years at the helm, Steve Nicol won't be returning to the New England Revolution.
The club and Nicol agreed to a mutual parting of the ways, according to a press release, meaning
that the longest-tenured coach with a single team in league history is looking for a new club.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The Chicago Fire have not exactly established continuity with their head coach
over the past five seasons. Five different coaches have been at the helm since the start of the
2007 season.
With the Fire's 2011 season in the books, the focus once again turns toward the sidelines, where
Fire technical director and interim head coach Frank Klopas posted an 8-5-10 record after replacing
Carlos de los Cobos.
Being reported that Peter Butler, who used to play for West Ham United, will soon be back at the

Liverpool owner John W Henry has dismissed reports that foreign owners are keen to scrap Premier
League relegation as "complete nonsense".
League Managers' Association (LMA) chief executive Richard Bevan claimed earlier this week that the
English top-flight's American and Asian power holders have discussed the possibility of ending
relegation to the Championship, claiming that "particularly American owners without doubt" are keen
on the concept.
