The 99th final of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup had fireworks, excitement and after a long delay to
start the game due to a thunderstorm with lightning, heavy rain, and hail, Livestrong Sporting Park
finally got underway. After a ...

Two rounds were played within one week as the US Open Cup continues to get more exciting. The
teams in the lower levels of US soccer are fighting hard to make an impression against their MLS
opponents. Round Three of the US Open Cup begins Tuesday night, June 28th.
Even though the match in Madison, Wisconsin started on time recently between the 56ers and the
Chicago Fire's PDL side, the heavy rain and lightning storm found a way to postpone the match from
the 21st to Wednesday the 22nd.

Three points was the expected result as the U.S. Men's National Team took on Antigua & Barbuda
to open World Cup Qualifying and that's what they got with a 3-1 win in heavy rain on Friday night
at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
The U.S. women's national team did not need the late heroics to get by Brazil this time.Â
Carli Lloyd, Shannon Boxx and Amy Rodriguez all scored off set pieces as the U.S. women blanked
Brazil 3-0 in their final game of the Kirin Challenge Cup and a rematch of their riveting World Cup
quarterfinal bout that the Americans won in penalty kicks.
The U.S. Men's National Team finally got their first win under head coach Jurgen Klinsmann on
Saturday, defeating Honduras 1-0 in a friendly match at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

1. OTP predicted magic from Hatem Ben Arfa a couple of weeks ago and he's duly delivered. What a
goal. 2. Yesterday we concluded that Spurs' slump was indicated by their regular appearances as the
last game on Match of the Day. Harry Redknapp would have killed for that spot yesterday! 3. The

In the week leading up to today I could not decided whether I would bother going to a game today,
with one of the reasons being the weather forecast. It stated that there would be heavy rain to go
along with the strong winds already in place, but in the end the rain did not materialise and at
around 11am this morning I made the decision to go somewhere.
Bottom line: if you're driving to the 6 p.m. game in Carson allow planty of additional time on
potentially treacherous roadways.
As I write this just before 2 p.m. the daylong rain is even heavier than it has been in Torrance
just a few miles from Carson with no sign of a let-up in sight.
From the NWS:
THE URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 400 PM PST FOR LOS
ANGELES COUNTY.
The Colorado Rapids headed into Live Strong Sporting Park to face Sporting Kansas City down 2 goals
and a handful of starters. They had a difficult task ahead of them and the 18,565 fans and heavy
rain were not going to make it any easier for them. Sporting got the first couple of chances in the
match and in the 28' converted on one of those.

It is an international break weekend in the soccer world but unfortunately for some hoping to
have a break we do have three Major League Soccer games to discuss in Week 30. As I posted earlier,
two of the three games have playoff implications while the other game is more about playing for
2012.
Seattle Sounders won the U.S Open Cup for the third year straight last night, beating Chicago
Fire 2-0 to hoist the trophy a victory which was met with jubilant scenes, lashings of frothy
champagne and a heavy rain of confetti.
'Twas a truly joyous evening for everybody involved.
Another week down in MLS and another week that the draws keep most of the clubs where they were
a week ago. Only a couple movers in this week's rankings as Seattle leaped over Dallas, Portland
moved up and Colorado began their fall further down.
Hopefully next week we start seeing some changes again as the schedule gets fairly crowded with
midweek games and weekend games before the All-Star "break" next week.

I can't saw we should be shocked by many of the results this past weekend in MLS. More draws
were the name of the game and a few of them were scoreless yet again. But we did see plenty of
drama over the weekend as a couple games reminded us of how interesting this league can be when the
right players decide to show up at any given moment.
Saturday night at home gave the Colorado Rapids a good opportunity to secure three points
against the team with the worst record in their conference, and the defending MLS Cup champion took
care of business.
Colorado's two goals were enough to defeat the struggling Vancouver Whitecaps, 2-1, at Dick's
Sporting Goods Park.
I hope everyone is having as an exciting sports week as I am. Both the MLS season and the
Seattle Sounders kicked off on Tuesday in a wet, rainy battle between two favorites in the West.
The Sounders would go on to lose 1-0 to the Galaxy in an evenly matched affair. The results of the
match were somewhat overshadowed by the surprising news that Blaise Nkufo and the Sounders would be
parting ways.
Good morning from a much wetter than usual, but not as wet as when I went to bed, Dublin. It all
got a bit mental here yesterday evening. Heavy rain, rivers bursting their banks, a strange man
rounding up two of every animal. Where I live turned from a quiet road into a 2 foot deep
river.
Thankfully everything outside seems to be back to normal now, if a little damp, so we can look
ahead to tonight's Carling Cup game against Bolton.
HAMBURG, Germany Former Germany international Gerald Asamoah headed his sixth goal of the season to
give St Pauli a 1-0 win at Hamburg on Wednesday, their first Bundesliga victory over their city
rivals since 1977. In a match postponed this month due to heavy rain, Hamburg had half a dozen good
scoring chances in [.
The Vancouver Whitecaps were forced to postpone their MLS match against Real Salt Lake on
Saturday because the grass field put in place for Monday's friendly against Manchester City was
waterlogged by heavy rain in the Vancouver area.
As a result, the MLS match has to be re-scheduled, and the Real Salt Lake fans who made the trip
north to watch their team play were left with no game to watch.
The Sounders are back in action this Saturday against Real Salt Lake. They'll be battling
fatigue for the full 90 at one of the hardest stadiums in MLS to get a win. Also, some are calling
this a must-win match for RSL as they attempt to arrest a spat of poor form in league play. It
would be nice to come back from the disappointing loss on Wednesday to Dallas FC with a road win,
but it will be a tough challenge for a fatigued team.
Scorpions kick off inaugural season with first practice, groundbreaking ceremony for stadium and a
scrimmage against the U.S. U-23 Olympic team. It was a big day for the NASL San Antonio Scorpions
on Saturday as the team kicked off with their first-ever training session. Heavy rain forced the
event indoors in the morning as the [.
Sometimes it is so, so nice to be so, so wrong. Spain's 4-3 win over Yugoslavia in Euro 2000 was
memorably described at the time has "having everything except full-frontal nudity." Given
Equatorial Guinea's celebration of their astounding 2-1 win over Senegal in the ACN last night, I
expect we had that as well.
Night in Kansas City. A heavy rain falls. A limousine with darkened windows and an MLS
sticker on the bumper pulls up to a corner in a remote, destitute section of the city. Fake Sigi
steps out of the shadows in a trench coat and hat pulled low. The window in the back seat goes
down.
It's just 17 days away, folks. The hope, the anxiety, the butterflies in your stomach remedied
by six pints and above all the trepidation. Yes, another Premier League season is upon us!
In order to save yourselves the stress and the heartache, I'll just tell you what's going to
happen over the coming months.
Yes, Jozy Altidore was set to begin training at AZ this morning - but it was cancelled after a
heavy rain storm swept through the area last night. He will make his practice debut tomorrow and
I'm sure somebody will show up to talk to him. - Greg Seltzer
What with nothing much happening in Fulham-land, please indulge a little more notmuchness.

the weather in Dublin this morning is like the Arsenal mood. Grey, miserable and drizzling
slightly with a chance of heavy rain later in the day. The first two were probably sufficient for
the description but there you go.
There is a fairly widespread acceptance that Saturday's display against Blackburn has cost us
our chance of the title.
