Hope Solo denies an Alex Morgan blastCan't say there is much to report from U.S. WNT training in chilly Frisco, Texas. All the players
are healthy and gunning for spots on the 18-player roster for the New Zealand game, but since
there's not much new, we decided to put together a top-10 What's New?

I tried to tune in to watch the USWNT take on the Dominican Republic at the appointed 10:30 pm
start time last night. In the 10 or so minutes it took me to update the stupid Silverlight player
and get the game to load, I missed the opening 3 goals, which all happened inside the first 7
minutes of the game.
Heather O'Reilly is competing against some of the best footballers of today for
the FIFA's Puskas Award, which recognises the 'Best Goal of the Year'. Of course, everybody has
their own interpretation of what constitutes a "great goal". Neymar, Lionel Messi, Rooney,
Giovani dos Santos and Ibrahimovic have all scored some of the most
beautiful ones this year, but so has Heather!
Messi, Ibrahimović, Neymar, Rooney and O'Reilly, just half of the names that are up for the FIFA
Puskás Award to determine the best goal of the year from around the world.
U.S. midfielder Heather O'Reilly's strike from distance against Colombia in the USA's second group
match of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup earned her that honor.
Can I put this in the "only on TSG category."
A few weeks ago, a friend us sent us the "Megan Rapinoe Song" (to which Julie Foudy decided to
claim she was just perusing "Megan Rapinoe" on YouTube creepy! and found it).
After posting, TSGer Jeff Holmes sent us an absolutely fan-freaking-tastic song for Heather
O'Reilly.
The actual email exchange below.

The United States Women's National Team punched their ticket to the World Cup final with a 3-1
victory over France in Moenchengladbach today.
Although they were outplayed at times, the U.S managed to defend calmly and keep their shape
against the French, clinching their fifth appearance in a Women's World Cup final, which will be
played on Sunday against Japan.
It's big time for the ladies in just a few hours.
Big effort needed from this US lady--Shannon Boxx--today...
Their own private Ghana you might say, with the exception that the US comes up big against
Brazil while the men wilt against their nemesis.
Here's the US starting line-up.

(Apologies for the delay on this...turns out when your best friend's getting married today it
kills you internet access.)
...that would be TSG. Been a lot of fun following the ladies for the last year about...
Wambach...still enlightening...
• Abby Wambach is a lot more dangerous than you think.
Alex Morgan tries to keep the ball from Becky Sauerbrunn and Heather MittsNow is the time in the tournament when a fitness and depth really start to impact the Women's World
Cup teams as everyone will be playing their third game in about nine days. The U.S. team did train
in the afternoon on July 3 after arriving in Wolfsburg, with the players who played the most
against Colombia taking a light jog and stretch while the reserves went a bit harder in misty rain.
Goals don't come much better than US midfielder Heather Reilly's scored today
against Colombia in their 3-0 win.

A group of students at DePaul University created a film chronicling Section 8, the Chicago Fire
supporters group. It's a great film and hopefully we'll start to see more films like this about the
growing soccer supporters culture in the United States.
Living in the Red is a video about the Chicago Fire Soccer Fan club, Section 8, produced by
Marlin Kolev, Ethan Faure and Heather Eidson for Documentary Production 471 at DePaul University,
2011.

Monday's have kinda becoming "supporters' day" at FBM HQ and so it's with great pleasure we present
this documentary short about an American supporters group, Chicago Fire's Section 8.
The FBM can trace its origins back to Wisconsin and in our youth we took in many Fire matches.
There are some talented individuals jumping and singing in sections 116-119 at the Harlem end of
Toyota Park. Check out this rough cut of a film produced by Ethan Faure, Marlin Kolev, and Heather
Edison for a documentary production class at Depaul University.
Nicely done!

One of the best supporters groups in Major League Soccer have finally got some recognition they
deserve thanks to a video documentary produced about Chicago Fire's Section 8, which was created by
three DePaul University film students.
Chicago's finest fans get their 15 minutes of fame --seriously, this clip is 15 minutes long--
courtesy of DePaul University film students Marlin Kolev, Ethan Faure and Heather Eidson. Good
stuff. Always good to see the SG's get some shine.
Lauren Cheney wants the ball...and she wants it now.Yesterday, the U.S. WNT held what was the last training in an excellent pre-tournament camp in
Austria. The players got the chance to adjust to the time zone, train in a serene enviroment and
sharpen up many areas before heading to Dresden, Germany tomorrow morning.
Two vids for you. The first? Abby Wambach, not kicking any copiers. (Question: Couldn't ESPN
have used a different star here for a change? Maybe Heather O'Reilly or Alex Morgan? Just a
thought.

Heather MarikCHICAGO -- The Chicago Red Stars of the Women's Premier Soccer League announce the
additions of defenders Leigh Jakes (McDonough, Ga.) and Heather Marik (Naperville, Ill.) to the
team's roster for the 2011 season.
Jakes completed her tenure with Northwestern University last year.
Mexico's chances of repeating as Gold Cup champions just got a whole lot harder with the news
this afternoon that starting goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and four of his teammates have been removed
from the Mexican national team after testing positive for the substance "Clenbuterol".
In addition to Ochoa, the other players who failed the drug test are Francisco Javier Rodriguez,
Antonio "Sinha" Naelson, Christian Bermudez, Edgar Duenas.
As you may have heard by now, the Wall Street Journal took a ... how do we put this? ...
interesting story about our little soccer rivalry we have brewing here in the Pacific Northwest. I
really want to believe that it's a genius piece of satire. But something tells me I'm giving the
author too much credit.
