South Florida women find scoring touch and a win against Stetson

Against The Run Of Play 21 September @ 05:52 AM EST
A slight pattern is developing; if the USF women (3-4-1) score more than once in a game, they win. The Bulls came back from a 2-1 deficit to tie the match and then win it in overtime on the road against the Hatters (4-4-0).
USF's Chantelle Goodson scored her first goal of the season on a long range shot in the thirty-sixth minute that glanced off the crossbar and into the goal. Click to continue reading...

Saturday Galaxy Gameday: Eskandarian on DL & More

100 Percent Soccer 12 September @ 12:15 PM EST

Alecko Eskandarian's dismal injury-plagued season is all but over with the Galaxy conceding to the inevitable and placing the concussion-prone striker on the disabled list for the final six regular season games.

The former Chivas USA frontman can return for the playoffs, but you've got to wonder if Eskandarian's career is reaching a conclusion, too.

Quote of the week

American Soccer News 25 August @ 06:15 AM EST

"The fibers of this team are so close and so that that nothing was going to break us." Sky Blue FC's Heather O'Reilly (left, with Natasha Kai) on her team's triumph in the inaugural Women's Professional Soccer championship game. O'Reilly scored the game's only goal in the 16th minute and the New York/New Jersey franchise held on to defeat th heavily-favored Los Angeles Sol.

Congrats to Sky Blue FC for winning the first WPS Championship! Heather O'Reilly win's the MVP but she said it should have gone to Christie Rampone! Why Sky Blue FC’s Championship Win is Good News for WPS

The Offside 24 August @ 08:00 AM EST
Sky Blue FC beat LA Sol 1-0 to win the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) championship game on Saturday, thanks to a goal from Heather O'Reilly (pictured with Natasha Kai and Natasha Kai's tattoos) So WPS has survived its inaugural season (even after launching at the worst possible time, economically speaking) and - crucially -established the [. Dinamo & everything else 17 August @ 01:59 PM EST
I've been musing on the make up of the club, especially after Benny D gave me his thoughts on the forced forfeit(he didn't agree with me, but we're a broad church).
At various points, players fall into a number of categories - either they're committed to a club philosophically because of their politics, aesthetics, ethnicity or because they're mates with other lads in the club at one end - or because they just want to 'play' to relieve stress or get exercise - at the other. Breakers Lose … BUT the SUN is OUT!

JordanCornblog 05 July @ 05:49 AM EST

Yes, the sunis actually out and mot a cloud to be seen. HOORAY!

And yes, the Breakers lost 1-0 to FC Sky Blue yesterday on the strength of a Heather O'Reilly corner kick that bent into the Breakers' net in the 6th minute. Sounds like there were other good chances for both teams, but that early score held through the end of the match.

WPS can bring the sexy too

The Other Football 21 April @ 06:59 AM EST
David Beckham gets photographed with his shirt off all the time, so why shouldn't Heather Mitts bring attention to herself and the WPS by stripping down for a shoot in Boston Magazine? These were published before the WPS season began,... Click to continue reading...

Sock It To Me!

Booked for Dissent 20 April @ 04:45 PM EST

In my review of The Gaslight Anthem show, I wrote that I had seen two concerts that weekend. The other was the Eccentric Soul Revue, which was put on by Numero Group, a celebrated label that specializes in cratedigging and reissues.

The concert, which took place at Park West, featured a handful of musicians from the Twinight label, including The Notations and Syl Johnson, who later recorded for Willie Mitchell's Hi Records.

I Don’t Know What It Says About Me…

Booked for Dissent 13 March @ 10:54 AM EST

...that my three man-crushes are George Clooney, Jon Hamm, and ... Craig Finn?

I mean, how can you not love a guy who writes lyrics like, "She got screwed up by religion/She got screwed by soccer players."?

And yeah, I know it's been a long time since I've done a Dudes Who Look Like Craig Finn post.

They Might be Giants, but the Birds Have It - All of the Birds - All of the Time!

JordanCornblog 11 January @ 08:19 AM EST
Fingers crossed here for another good NFL day for the bird teams.  The Ravens I had with a win.  But the Cardinals?  Wow.  I just hope they didn't steal the Eagles' mojo.  (Nah ... an unworthy thought to be having this snowy NH Sunday.)  If Ravens can bring down Titans, certainly Eagles can bring down [. Australians in Tashkent

Hands On Football 09 September @ 02:15 AM EST
Where the hell is Tashkent?? It is great to read stories about travelling Football fans. The number of Aussies travelling to watch the boys play around the world has increased over the years especially with a group like the Green and Gold Army leading the way. The Grandmother of All Fans Heather Kayatz is a 70 year old [. Click to continue reading...

USWNT and Brazil Through to Gold Medal Match

JordanCornblog 18 August @ 11:28 AM EST
The USWNT and Brazil both won in convincing fashion and will face off on Thursday morning (9AM ET) in the gold medal match. Germany and Japan (maybe it's me ... but doesn't that sound awfully World War Twoish?) will square off in the Bronze medal match-up (6AM ET). Kudos to Japan for making [...]SHARETHIS.
