With the news this week of two new nuclear reactors to be built in Augusta, Georgia, The Masters

Heartbreak for Gabon and Aubamayeng but a bright future awaits... is a post from: Just
Football
In my latest column for FourFourTwo I take a look at co-hosts Gabon
and their exciting but ultimately heartbreaking Africa Cup of Nations
campaign:
After the laughter comes tears.
Do you suffer from any pre-existing conditions?
Ah, that old question on the health insurance form. The one if you answer falsely you're fooked
if they find out and you need to claim, and the one if you answer truthfully are fooked anyway
because it'll make it harder to claim.
What happened to the Taranga Lions? They went out with a whimper. One of the ACN's most
formidable teams on paper boasting names like Demba Ba, Moussa Sow, Mamadou Niang, and Papiss
Cisse, were unceremoniously dumped out by co-hosts Equatorial Guinea. The Lions lost their first
encounter, 1-2 to the unfancied Zambians.
BOLTS OVERCOME BY REVOLUCION Tijuana overcomes 4 goal deficit to defeat
Anaheim
Bolts Press Release:Anaheim, CA- (January 6, 2012)- New year, same story. The Anaheim Bolts held a lead going into the
fourth quarter but fell to Revolucion Tijuana 14-13 to drop to 3-4 on the season.
First year coach Tom Guinn didn't know what to expect when he took the job as head coach of the
boys soccer team at Springfield Catholic. He had never even seen them play. Guinn knew about the
team's recent success but he was told the Irish had lost quite a few seniors and he would have his
work cut out for him.
The back of this blogathon is broken now, right. Has to be? Surely tae goodness.
We're moving through the night with a run of guest debaters. So welcome, please, Ross McCafferty
known to the Twitter world as @holyroodpatter
Given the somewhat combative nature of this very good cause, I thought that I would change the
rules ever so slightly and disagree with a former post of Tom's (in the knowledge he is mandated to
come back and disagree again!
After the first leg of the Euro 2012 play-offs, there were a wide variety of results to compare
and analyze before the second leg on Tuesday. Some ties already look finished, while some are still
very much alive.
We take a look at one thing we learned from each match.
Croatia remain world class
A 3-0 demolition of Turkey reaffirms that despite missing out on the World Cup, Croatia are
still a team with enough quality and talent to win the European Championships.
Mourinho has plenty of reasons to be happy given how his Ramos-Pepe Central Defensive
Partnership has fared. So we're back to Binary Code scorelines once again. After goalfests in
the Champions League and against our La Liga rivals, we're back to clawing our way to victory
again. Not that I mind – as I am a believer that there is a need for the team to suffer on their
way to victory every now and then.

As the game wound to a close, I was toying with an opening line for a reaction post, something
along the lines of: "These two teams could play for 90 days instead of 90 minutes and never find
the damn net."
So imagine my surprise when a late whistle finally answered a United attacker flinging himself to
the ground in the box.
Well, this is truly a tough day and match for Fire fans. As Merwin lamented in his post game
recap of the Dallas match, not only is the door pretty much slammed on the Fire's playoff hopes,
but they played a pretty poor game Wednesday night to boot. While the Men in Red certainly have the
talent to beat DC United tonight, one has to wonder how much is left in the tank and if they can
overcome the heartbreak that has been the past 11 days or so.
1. Seattle's soccer scene rocks. I know that statement is tagged under "ridiculously
obvious." But good heavens, look at what's happening this weekend! More than 60,000 fans are set to
show up for Kasey Keller's final regular season match at CenturyLink Field. There's so much I could
write about it all, about a giant of U.
With just two matches left in the qualifying process for the 2012 European Championships, the
Republic of Ireland remain in with a very real chance of getting to their first major tournament
since the 2002 World Cup.
Thierry Henry and France's controversial- and undeserved- win meant heartbreak for the Boys in

John Crace, beloved author of the Guardian's digested reads, has written a book called "Vertigo:
One Football Fan's Fear of Success," which we may suppose is John Crace's delightful way of
offering a point of view into every football fan's fear of success.
From an excerpt in The Guardian, titled How football helped me to live with
depression," we learn that he writes about being a Spurs fan in an abusive relationship with a club
that promises glory and delivers heartbreak routinely.

Theo Walcott admits he was shocked by Arsene Wenger's mad scramble for players to take to
Arsenal as the transfer window deadline approached.
Walcott has five new team-mates to meet in Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Andre Santos, Park
Chu-young and Per Mertesacker when the team returns from international duty on Wednesday.
I suppose this post should be subtitled "The Game that Broke My Heart." I had watched sports my
whole life (my dad was a High School coach,) and yet this, my first World Cup, made me feel like no
other sport had ever made me feel before. This tournament and the infamous final were my first real
experiences with the beautiful game, and because of my heartbreak, would spark the flames of a
passion for a sport that is almost obscene.

Away from Home: The Struggle for Football in Palestine is a post from: Just Football
June 12th 2014, Maracana Stadium. To much fanfare, World Cup 2014 kicks off. Opening game
Brazil vs Palestine. Could happen? Perhaps not. But as Lewis Cheetham explains in his debut article
for Just Football, duress is being met with progress:
Footballing associations across the world are inevitably faced with complications and
disruptions which obstruct the development of their game each season.
How could you not be pulling for the USWNT after that run to the final? The breathtaking win
against all odds vs. Brazil. The late dominant surge against France. My girls teams were talking
about it all summer and were pumped for the final. I had encouraged them to watch every game they
could watching players off the ball, how they moved, how they reacted.
TSG's Maura Gladys on the intersection of fandom and objectivity after yesterday's US
Women's World Cup Final loss.
The US ladies get close, but are upended by a Japan team that kept coming...
In the end, this whole tournament was about heart. We saw that in yesterday's championship
match, in the semifinals, quarterfinals, and group stage.
There was heartbreak for Jordan Henderson and England U21s on Sunday night as their European
Championship dream was ended with a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic.
After drawing their opening two group games, the Three Lions needed to beat the Czechs in order to
progress into the semi-final of the tournament in Denmark.

Michael Ballack has suffered several disappointments in his career – but though being
informed his time in the Germany squad is effectively over will have hurt, even he cannot be
surprised.
The writing has been on the wall for Ballack for several months and Joachim Loew's reluctance to
bring him back even when fit was a clear signal he was no longer required.
The Gunners ended the season with relegation form – 2W,3L,6D – in the final eleven games of
the season. The fact that this form came straight after a horror fortnight that saw heartbreak in
all the Cup fixtures, including the Carling Cup final, means that even the most positive of Gooners
are finding it hard to sustain the faith.
There will be a new name on the Copa Brasil trophy this year as Vasco da Gama and Coritiba
secured semi-final, second leg wins on Wednesday night.
Vasco da Gama, one of Brazil's biggest clubs, have surprisingly never won this tournament but
have a great chance to add their name to the list of winners following their 3-1 aggregate defeat
of Avaí FC.
What a final day for the English Premier League. Fans of Blackburn, Wigan and Wolverhampton will
be cheering for months (and Aston Villa fans too) as their beloved clubs stay up. Meanwhile, there
was nothing but heartbreak for Birmingham City and Blackpool fans.
Nearly every scenario came into play over the 90 minutes of the league's final day, with Wigan
and Wolves both looking like they could be going down with less than 20 minutes to play in each of
their games.
SO. Here we are.
For the last time in the history of mankind, Valencia will take the field for a game of
football. The arena will be a sold out Riazor, where Depor will be desperate to give their
passionate fans the option to go to their graves knowing that their side was a La Liga member at
the end.
PSAP missed out on the chance of Indonesia Super League football, losing 1-0 to hosts Mitra Kukar
in the play offs last night.
The team from Aceh province had gone into the game worrying about match officials showing home side
bias, something they know a lot about as this story testifies.
Franco Hita scored the only goal of them securing Mitra Kukar's path to the semi finals on 50
minutes in what looks like a bad tempered game with PSAP collecting seven yellow cards and one red.
An inferior blogger posed this question today, so there is my riposte.
I still believe as I don't believe Manure are a team that are infallible. They have ridden
tremendous luck on occasions, referee decisions have gone their way for two decades, but situations
that affect their opposition are most amazing when broken down and really gleaned upon with a
serious level of intent and vigour.
For a coach that caused so much controversy this past January, one would expect him to be a
master tactician. Surely all this anger at his cross town switch had something to do with
his coaching abilities. Could it really all have stemmed from the mere fact that Leonardo had been
AC Milan through and through, and transferred to the vacant post-Rafa Benitez Inter when the
opportunity arose?
After injuries have ravaged through Tottenham's back four, one of our midfield has already been
ruled out of tomorrow's game with Real Madrid in the Bernabeu.
In understated fashion, Steven Pienaar declared on his Twitter account: "Out for the Madrid
game, groin still not right."
Pienaar has previous experience from this stage of the competition, having got there with Ajax
eight years ago.

Something has gone in us, not in our attitude, but in our confidence -- Arsene Wenger
Another season that began with Arsenal amongst the favorites for a trophy haul in England and
another season that looks to end in heartbreak.
