As Earl said yesterday, we're doing the MLS preview a little differently this year, and our first article today is on the men on the bench, the new head coaches. This offseason five teams from various situations and needs hired ... Continue reading →
Seattle, currently third in the Western Conference and poised for a stretch run towards the MLS

The United States road woes in CONCACAF 2014 World Cup Qualifying continued on Friday night as
they fell 2-1 in Jamaica.
Clint Dempsey put the U.S. in the lead just 36 seconds into the match, but Rodolph Austin
knotted the score directly off a free kick in the 23rd minute and then Luton Shelton scored the
winner for Jamaica on another set piece in the 62nd minute.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Injuries and international absences may have decimated the New England
Revolution's attack, but Diego Fagundez picked up the slack on Wednesday, helping spark the offense
in a 2-0 upset win over the Columbus Crew at Gillette Stadium.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass – The Revolution used two second half goals to down the Columbus Crew and
snap their 10-game winless streak – their longest since 1999. Striker Dimitry Imbongo slotted
home his first MLS goal and Chad Marshall scored an own goal as the Revolution won for the first
time since July 8th.
Earlier this year, I was asked to write a Revolution season preview for Major League Soccer
Talk. For the most part, I went into the season with realistic expectations. There were no
delusions of Supporter's Shield nor MLS Cup in my head. The perfect season for these New England
Revolution, with a new roster, and a new head coach, was just to play well and not finish dead last
in the league.
COLUMBUS, Ohio-- There figure to be several changes made to the U.S. men's natinonal team's
starting lineup heading into Tuesday's crucial World Cup qualifying showdown vs. Jamaica, and U.S.
head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has already revealed some of them.
If the U.S. team needed any kind of lift following the defeat in Jamaica, they certainly found it
from the fans in Columbus during Sunday's public training session at Crew Stadium.
More than 3,000 supporters turned up to watch the 75-minute session, cheering loudly as the team
entered the field and keeping the energy level as the team went through a series of passing
exercises and small-sided games before concluding with a finishing exercise.
One of the continuing missions of U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is to bring outside voices into
the team help the players grow both on and off the field. This week the focus was on motivation,
and trust us when we tell you there was no one better suited the Donnie Moore and his amazing Feats
of Strength.
With a World Cup qualifier against Jamaica looming, U.S. national team head coach Jurgen
Klinsmann spoke about the recent moves a handful of players on his roster made towards the end of
the international transfer window.
Clint Dempsey, Maurice Edu, Carlos Bocanegra, Geoff Cameron, and Oguchi Onyewu all switched
clubs before the window closed, moves that Klinsmann describes as 'upward moves' to 'clubs of a
certain caliber.
It has been almost a year since Timmy Chandler last played for the U.S. men's national team and
although he has turned down a number of recent call-ups due to injuries or fatigue, the talented
youngster insists he is still open to representing the United States in the near future.
With his performances for both club and country, Sporting Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi has
quietly gone about the business of moving up the ladder of the U.S. Men's National Team.
"We are please with his progress, and that's why he is coming in again," said U.S. head coach
Jurgen Klinsmann.
U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has consistently repeated his mantra that he wants U.S. players
competing on the biggest teams, against the biggest clubs, and in the biggest competitions. When he
reviews the group stage tables for the UEFA Champions League and the Europe League, he will
certainly like what he sees.
The U.S. MNT is back in Miami, which is traditionally been the staging point for training camps
prior to games in Central America and the Caribbean. The warm temperatures and proximity for travel
make South Florida an ideal location to get prepped for the World Cup qualifiers.
And so it was that 15 players took the field for training this afternoon.

Under former head coach Peter Nowak, and Sporting Director Diego Gutierrez, Colombia was a
source of talent for a Philadelphia Union team that needed an influx of it during an offseason. Now
Colombia has become a place of departure for exiting Union players.
First it was Faryd Mondragon returning to Deportivo Cali, the team he began his professional
soccer career with, and today it was Jorge Perlaza, heading to Millonarios after his rather
forgetful time with the Union.
The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team used the strength of two second half goals in
defeating Catholic University, 2-0, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 3-0 on
the season.
After a scoreless first half, UMW scored at 47:54 on a penalty kick from freshman Adrian Newcomb.
After just three games, Andre Villas-Boas finds himself under fire from parts of the media and
this is only to be expected given the man's history in English football. However, how much of this
criticism is coming from the fans and is it justified if some of us are a little impatient right
now?
Another big weekend in Mexico, filled with great games, surprises, and some teams further
separating themselves from the rest. After 7 weeks, Toluca (17 points) sits atop the table,
followed by Club Tijuana (16), Leon (13), Cruz Azul (13), Morelia (12), Atlante (12), Santos (11),
and America (10).
With the international break this weekend I thought this would be a good time to take a closer
look at the Portland Timbers' new coach, Caleb Porter. Before we knew for certain Caleb Porter was
going to be the Portland Timbers' new head coach Gavin Wilkinson talked about the new coach. Here
is the quote:
Just an up and coming coach that has the potential to be one of the best in the league.

David Bentley's Tottenham misery is prolonged until January at least with the news that the 28
year old has joined Russian Premier League outfit FC Rostov on a short term loan.
Bentley had suggested at the start of the season that new head coach Andre Villas-Boas had given
him a clean slate and asked the winger to prove that he still has a future at the club.
After leaving new permanent signing Emmanuel Adebayor on the bench for the first two games of
the season, the press are suggestion that Andre Villas-Boas is ready to trust the Togolese with
leading the line at Reading, providing he is satisfied with the player's fitness.
After weeks and weeks of wrangling over personal terms, it seemed surprising for many supporters
to see Ade starting on the bench against West Brom and Norwich but it seems that he may simply not
have been fit enough.

When FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman brought Brek Shea off the field in the 86th minute of
Sunday's 1-1 draw with Seattle Sounders FC, many of those in attendance at FC Dallas Stadium and
watching on TV were a bit perplexed. They wondered why Hyndman would bring off one of his top
attacking players in what was still a 1-1 tie but a match where the final outcome remained very
much in doubt.
With Fabian Castillo unavailable for Sunday's 1-1 draw with Seattle Sounders FC, FC Dallas was
definitely going to miss the young Colombian's pace on the right flank. To his credit, Jackson did
a solid job filling in for No. 7 and even delivered the game-tying goal in the 32nd minute but
after this one was in the books, FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman admitted he sure could have used
Castillo, who ended a string of five straight starts due to a strained right hamstring.
In the 58th minute of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Seattle Sounders FC, FC Dallas rookie defender Matt
Hedges had to leave the game for Hernan Pertuz. Hedges had fallen to the ground inside the Dallas
area in obvious discomfort so FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman quickly summoned Pertuz to come in
and in a flash, Hedges was off the field.
We all love Pia Sundhage so when she announced that she was stepping down as the coach of the U.S. women's soccer team after the Olympics, it was tough to think who might replace her.
Now we know. Tom Sermanni, who led Australia's Matildas to the quarterfinals at the last two Women's World Cups, has been chosen as the new coach of the U.
By Charles Boehm - KINGSTON, JAMAICA (Sep 9, 2012) US Soccer Players -- The office of the President
of the United States has a well-documented tendency to speed up the aging process. Those who enter
the White House tend to exit with more wrinkles, more gray hair, and a bone-weariness that
moderates their subsequent career choices.
This U.S. U-20 WNT held its last training together today and now only a good night's sleep and a
few meals remain before the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Final against Germany at Tokyo National
Stadium.
It's has been quite a journey for this young U.S. team, one they have enjoyed tremendously and one
which has seen them grow as people and players across the entire cycle leading into this
tournament.
