MLS FutureWatch – Salaries, The CBA and TV

Major League Soccer Talk 16 September @ 09:54 AM EST

In my last post on MLS' future, I postulated that the television rights deals of the future will determine the level of play we will see on the field. I also stated that it is my belief that MLS must offer a better quality product on the field in order to achieve higher fees. Kind of a chicken or egg dilemna.

TV Fees – The Key to MLS’ Future

Major League Soccer Talk 03 September @ 04:15 PM EST

TV Rules

The number one item that should be on the agenda for MLS officials should be has to be the preservation of the TV rights contracts.

Why do I believe that TV holds the future of MLS in its grasp? Because it's already saved the league once. And as of now, it could be argued that the contracts might not even be extended at the current price, or not extended at all(unlikely).

Chivas USA Signs Zach Thornton

Dang. Chivas plays tonight on HDnet at 7:30 pm and I'm planning on catching the game at Coester's in the hopes of seeing Lance Parker in goal. The Wizards game kicks off at 6:30 pm, in DC.

I thought it might be his turn after Dan Kennedy's outing last week against the New England Revolution in the Superliga group stage.

MLS Matchday: Week 17

Soccer By Ives 19 July @ 01:30 PM EST

Good afternoon all. Today is a relatively light schedule as four teams continue their SuperLiga exploits. That doesn't mean there still aren't some entertaining match-ups on the slate.

David Beckham's return to New York leads the way as the golden one plays in front of a packed Giants Stadium today.

OK, technically not two words, but still. People will be expecting us to come flying out of the gates with The [...] Click to continue reading...

Four games in one week

The Offside - Kansas City Wizards 08 July @ 08:16 AM EST

Part one of four is now complete - that being the draw at Dallas. Could have been a loss, should have been a win. Couldn't watch it thanks to the people at HDNet, so I am going to let it slide with few comments. Up next is today's match against the Sounders. From what I've seen, Onalfo is starting a reserve-heavy squad, giving some regulars a chance to catch their breath.

I will be the first to admit that I have been a little lax recently in my posts. What can I say? This is a club soccer site and there's not much going on in the club world at the moment, although the Copa Libertadores finals start next week and should give us something to talk about.
That doesn't mean there's nothing on television, though. Click to continue reading...

MLS Game #13: DCU vs. NYRB

Behind the Badge 14 June @ 09:33 AM EST

Tonight, the New York Red Bulls visit RFK Stadium for the first time in 2008. As a supporter of our team, you already know that you don't like them. Nor do your friends. Nor do your parents. The good news is, that as a supporter of D.C. United, you've seen a lot more wins than losses versus the team from New York.

Match 2.27 The Setup: DCU v TFC 9-29-07

The Edgell Supporters 29 September @ 02:58 PM EST
Toronto Fried Chicken comes calling at RFK with pretty much only the draft in mind. I guess crashing DC United's Supporter's Shield Party would also be a decent consolation prize. DC will not be overlooking Toronto as they need the points to continue on the path to the Shield.
United will be at full strength while TFC will be missing Sutton (GK), Dichio (F), and O'Brien (M) which are some of their better players. Click to continue reading...
