1. How do you make hard work out of beating Wigan? Change your team around and play everyone out of position. I was looking forward to a late Christmas present in the form of United blowing Wigan out of the water, like usual, then the manager had to go and spoil it all. Carrick, our best player of recent weeks, shifted in to defence.

The mood surrounding Liverpool may have improved with the return of Kenny Dalglish, but with a pair each of losses and draws to go along with four wins as he and the club entered March, that renewed optimism hadn't always led to results. At least, though, there was a widespread feeling that it had become a squad capable of turning the proverbial corner and going on a run if they could only manage to make all the pieces fit together.

We really should win.

Squillaci cost us two points last season in this fixture with an own goal in the 81st minute.

There are are must-win games because a team needs points late in the season or to progress in a tournament, and then there are these kind of games (of which Fulham at home was one).

Match Report

After THAT win against the Chavs, the big question for this match was: should we start with an unchanged team, or make a number of changes in order to keep our great momentum going?

This was a difficult call for Wenger: although a win would be great, it was not a necessity – after all, a draw would keep us top of the group tonight and then there was to be considered the risk of fatigue/injury, as a result of potentially overplaying those players who pushed themselves to the very limit only 80 hours ago.

Peter Hill-Wood: Another prick on the wall

The saddest part of Arsenal's annihilation at Old Trafford is not the scoreline which is in itself a reflection of a heartless and cruel policy of turning to ingenues to save the club's season. That it was done by a Utd side that had its share of injuries and untested talent filling in huge shoes left by Paul Scholes, Edwin Van Der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, and Rio Ferdinand inflicted the deepest cut and left Wenger's bragging rights of turning to youth for provenance in tatters.
