One of the world's most historic football clubs has been training at the United States' eldest
university. On Harvard's Ohiri Field, Brendan Rodgers has put a young squad through a grueling 48
hours in Boston. Using an American football-esque...
I'm not one to knock soccer in the USA, in fact I've championed it on these pages in many an
article about the MLS but this is just ridiculous isn't it? The New York Post - not normally famed
for their soccer coverage - stick up a front page declaring a 1-1 win for the USA. Radio rental?
In response to the recent scandals concerning sexually explicit reports on the Women's soccer team, Harvard has officially ended the Men's soccer team's season.
The Harvard Crimson reported thatAthletics Director Robert L. Scalise sent a letter to student-athletes on Thursday that the University was terminating the Men's season after finding thatthe reports scandal continued beyond 2012 and even into the 2016 season.
Loyal readers and new followers...if there are any. For the past couple years I've written this
blog quoting some list, a database of players I keep. I've not really shared it with too many
people to this point thinking there is some proprietary knowledge held in it. Well, I've realized
Seattle Sounders fans will think twice about cheering for Mike Fucito now.Â
The former Sounders fan favorite was traded from the Montreal Impact to the Portland Timbers
Friday. Based on his performance this season, the Impact will receive either a second-round pick in
the 2013 MLS SuperDraft or an international roster spot for the 2013 season.
Sure, Coach Sark and Coach Wulff will get most of the attention on "signing day" but let's give
a little love to the Husky soccer team. The other football had two NLIs come in and one of the
players you likely have seen play already, as he's on the Sounders U-18 team.
Drew White, usually at centerback, will be coached by Jamie Clark (no relation).
It took several months, and finishing up at Harvard but Mike Fucito is finally a professional
soccer player. In this week alone Sounders FC has now added two left side players in the Harvard
product and Costa Rican Leo Gonzalez. Fucito did travel with the team to Argentina where he scored,
and has [.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is a decent NFL quarterback. At best, he's an average starter. But don't tell
the Buffalo Bills because they apparently believe that he's elite. On Friday, the Bills gave
Fitzpatrick a contract extension worth nearly $60 million over six years.
A backwards-capped Berba looked studiously smokin' last week during his team's tour of Harvard's
campus. Since he's yet to complete the prestigious American university's admissions process, he
unfortunately could not practise his tonguing talents with us after school. We're elite like that.
Just as JBD would have predicted, Tina Charles is having a knock-em-dead season. Notching her
sixth double-double in a row this past Tuesday, Charles now has 12 of 'em in her first 15 games.Â
This little tidbit comes from Swish Appeal ... a new find for yours truly and what looks to be a
great site for keeping up with WNBA and Women's College Hoops news!
If you go to the site of any WPS team these days you're likely to see a counter displaying the
days, hours, and minutes before opening day. We're something like three months away, with a bit of
March Madness in between, but with the days getting longer, you can definitely feel the soccer in
Phillies won, Red Sox won .. and I've got the Slingcatcher hooked up and working in Dewd's
Meanwhile, the Breakers will be honoring soccer great Maren Meinert at the game with the Freedom
on May 17th at Harvard Stadium. WUSA fans remember her fondly as a key ingredient in the
Breakers' success - most especially in their final year (with Pia coaching).
If you've been paying any attention to JordanCornblog's track record on sports predictions,
you'll know that it's pretty much best to ignore anything that I say. (This is, by the way, very
freeing in some ways.)
So here are my week 6 WPS predictions ... and for more informed previews, check out Christa
Mann's Week 6 Preview on Soccer by Ives!
There are the obvious explanations. Teams are not accustomed to the new Adidas football, teams
are frightened to lose the first game, teams are set up to not concede the first goal. Could the
real explanation be that football has changed?
The game is professional in a way that it has never been before.
Colorado is about to go on the clock for their first pick at #22, followed by their second pick at
#23. They are reportedly working a deal to swap Cory Gibbs for Jeff Larentowicz from New England.
The deal seems to be contingent on the Rapids signing Larentowicz to a new contract. Updates here
once the picks are made.
More 2010 MLS SuperDraft talk here now. MLS Insider is reporting that U-17 midfielder Jack
McInerney has signed a Generation adidas contract with Major League Soccer, joining Akron's Teal
Bunbury and Blair Gavin along with U-20 star Dilly Duka.
Boston College Women's Soccer continued its strong start to the season on Wednesday evening with a 2-1 win over Harvard at Harvard's Soldiers' Field Soccer Stadium. Mass. natives Lauren Berman and Hayley Dowd scored on either side of halftime, sandwiching a goal by Harvard's Joan Fleischman to give the game its final scoreline.
New England Soccer Today photographer Kari Heistad (capturedimages.biz) brings you the scenes from U.S. Men's National Team training at Harvard University on Tuesday. The team is prepping for a friendly against Ecuador on Friday at Rentschler Field in Hartford, Ct.
Sir Alex Ferguson was recently invited to help teach a class at Harvard Business School as a follow up to one professor's in-depth case study on him. In the class, Ferguson imparted his vast wisdom on the students in a manner similar to Jose Mourinho's class for 200 American coaches at UCLA last summer.
A month after Clint Dempsey's move from Fulham to Liverpool was supposedly a done deal, the
American who scored 17 goals last season is now playing for neither club and Fulham have filed an
official complaint against Liverpool as the summer transfer window nears its end. And the reason
this situation has turned putrid is largely because of silly, amateurish failures in
Q: What was Mike Fucito like growing up? DAVIES: He was feisty. He was one of my best friends growing up. We played club
soccer together and I recruited him to my high school, which was pretty cool. Unfortunately, he
went to Harvard - his family wouldn't let him pass up that opportunity, so we didn't get a chance
to play in college.
BALTIMORE, Md. The Boston Breakers added midfielder Keelin Winters, along with forwards Whitney
Palmer, Katie Sheeleigh, and Tanya Taylor to their potent attack Friday afternoon at the 2011
Womens Professional Soccer Draft.
Winters, who was taken with the sixth overall pick, played collegiately at the University of
Portland from 2007-2010.

This has nothing to do with anything but I just had a sandwich in the presence of Rage Against The
Machine/Audioslave/Street Sweeper Social Club guitarist Tom Morello (who incidentally is rocking a
Fall River Marksman t-shirt is SSSC's upcoming video) and the freaky thing is dude talks EXACTLY
