Wally meets...Sky TV presenter and Hartlepool United fan Jeff Stelling
Christmas – there's a good nine-letter word for Jeff Stelling to sign off as the host of
Countdown. His last episode in the chair of daytime TV's popular game of anagrams, conundrums and
brain-teasers went out last week with pouting sidekick Rachel Riley in tears and his beloved
Hartlepool United in freefall.

formally and commercially as the 'EBB Stadium' is set to play host to Premier League goliaths
Manchester United in the Fourth round of the Carling Cup a week next Tuesday and, with tickets
going on sale yesterday, we thought we'd give you all a little sneak peak of the venue that is
lying in wait for Fergie's high-rollers (or at least the second/third string of Fergie's
high-rollers) in a fortnight or so's time in the form of a photo essay.

The Football League begins its new season next weekend, but non-league football doesn't begin
again for a couple of weeks. With this in mind, it's time to take a quick look around how some
clubs are doing in their pre-season friendlies. All of these matches are from the last couple of
weeks and, it has to be said, we have no details on how strong the teams taking part in these
matches my or may not have been.

The first time I heard Luke Rodgers was moving to New York Red Bulls was when it fell through.
He was turned down for a visa due to an affray charge. The dream seemed all but over for the
diminutive striker. This however was not my first memory of Birmingham born Rodgers.
My latest contributions to the Jakarta Globe have a very English feel to them. A look at Hartlepool
United's incredible season ticket offer and how QPR nearly stopped Liverpool becoming a big club!
Eric Lichaj not only started two more matches and played them in their entirety, but he also had
his loan to Leeds United extended through the end of the League Championship's regular season.
Lichaj was brought in as a temporary replacement for the club's first-choice right back, who is
nearing his return from injury; however, the extension will afford Lichaj more first-team minutes
for a team in the thick of a promotion hunt.
