Northern Ireland's quest for a place in next summer's World Cup finally ended on Sunday night, with Michael O'Neill's side losing out 1-0 on aggregate to Switzerland after a goalless draw in a rain-soaked Basel.

The Swiss came into the game one goal up, courtesy of that controversial Ricardo Rodriguez penalty in Belfast.

After only coming onto the field with 15 minutes left to go, Switzerland forward Haris Seferovic conjured up some last minute heroics to give his nation a victory in their World Cup opener against Ecuador.

On a counter-attack in the third minute of stoppage time, Switzerland midfielder Valon Behrami advanced towards goal before the ball was played out to the left wing.
