German Bundesliga Match Predictions 11 February 2012 - The 90th Minute Soccer Blog
Alfredo Morales made his debut in Hertha's starting 11 in a loss to Steve Cherundolo and Hannover
96, while Timothy Chandler made his Nurnberg return in a loss to Dortmund.
Nurnberg - Borussia Dortmund 2:30pm - Galavision Timmy Chandler's Nurnberg are 13th in the
Bundesliga table to Dortmund's 2nd, making this on paper a tough assignment at the
EasyCredit-Stadion. Nurnberg are coming off a 1-0 loss to Hannover 96 last Friday, with Chandler
absent with a pulled muscle. Clausura on Galavision: U.

U.S. prospect Alfredo Morales has not seen the field for Hertha Berlin since October, but that
will not stop him from making his first-ever start in the Bundesliga this coming weekend.
Morales is slated to start at right back in place of the suspended Christian Lell when Hertha
faces Hannover 96, according to head coach Michael Skibbe.

By now all Manchester United fans would have known that we've agreed to sell Mame Biram Diouf to
Hannover 96. The question, I'm pondering over is Why? Diouf was signed from Molde FK in July 2009,
and after a 30-month stay in English football, he's moving to Germany. I find his transfer really
weird! During all this time, he has played lot of football, he has gained valuable experience and

All American eyes Friday are on Goodison Park, where Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey do battle
in Everton and Fulham's FA Cup match, but there's another game in Europe that is of importance to
Americans abroad as well.
Timmy Chandler's FC Nurnberg and Steve Cherundolo's Hannover 96 are slated to go up against one
another in a Bundesliga match that should be featuring the present and future of U.

Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey have shared plenty of moments throughout their careers as the
top two attacking threats of the U.S. men's national team, but they will not be celebrating
together on Friday.
The two American stars are set to face off for the first time since 2006 when Everton and Fulham
do battle in the fourth round of the FA Cup (3pm, Fox Soccer Channel).
By Tony Edwards - San Jose, CA (Jan 19, 2012) US Soccer Players -- In today's edition, Tony asks
about Everton's tactics and upcoming schedule, looks at Steve Cherundolo's Hannover '96 back in
action in Germany, wonders about the Rapids' priorities going into the season, and asks Joe Cannon
not to quit his day job.

for Hoffenheim, while Steve Cherundolo lined up on the opposite side for Hannover 96.

It took Clint Dempsey nine years to score the first hat-trick of his career, a feat he
accomplished on January 7 in an FA Cup win over Charlton Athletic.
It did not take much longer for him to do it again.
Dempsey became the first American to net a hat-trick in the Premiership on Saturday.

For U.S. Under-23 winger Joe Gyau, the future is now.
Gyau confirmed on his own Twitter feed that he will be in TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's matchday 18
against Hannover 96 this weekend for the first time. Hoffenheim is dealing with a number of
injuries, and Gyau, who has been playing well for the club's U-23 team, is going to get his first
taste of first-team life in the Bundesliga in what could prove to be a seminal year in the
19-year-old winger's career.

If Tyler Polak finds himself in the starting line-up on opening day at San Jose, the 19-year-old
should hardly be caught wide-eyed. The New England Revolution's second round draft pick has already
faced Major League Soccer competition in a meaningful match and trained with several professional
clubs.

Jozy Altidore and Sacha Kljestan have both enjoyed individual club success this season, which in
turn has led to their teams turning in strong results both domestically and in Europe. All of that
will come to a head in the UEFA Europa League Round of 32, when their two teams will square
off.

The UEFA Europa League group stage will wrap up today, and several Americans are hoping their
respective team is still standing after the dust has settled.
Jozy Altidore is one of those players, as he and AZ Alkmaar need a win over already-qualified FC
Metalist Kharkiv in Group G in order to secure qualification.

a two-way thing?

The first two of our Christmas gift ideas were, admittedly, a little bit on the shonky side. Who
in their right mind would want a Hannover 96 toaster for Christ's sake? Okay, I would but that's by
the by.
This Yuletide pointer carries with it a smidge more prestige than our previous efforts, in so
far as they're actually presents that the football fan in your life would most likely be
cock-a-hoop at receiving on Jesus' big day.
Betting sites has tipped Tottenham to take home the silverware, but the odds are now against
them even exiting the group stages.
With two weeks until the final matches of the Europa League group stages, 14 clubs have clinched
spots in the knockout rounds of the cup with a game to spare. With the eight teams that finish
third in their UEFA Champions League groups transferring over to Europe's second-tier competition,
that leaves 10 spots.

A lone Tottenham fan taunts the travelling PAOK Salonika supporters by holding a tenner

Steve Cherundolo got the start for Hannover 96, losing 2-0 to Standard Liege in Belgium. Both Group
B teams advanced to the knockout stage of the competition. Standard Liege got their first goal in
the 25th minute, doubling the lead in the 56th. Cherundolo picked up an 11th minute yellow card.
Jozy Altidore went the distance for AZ in a scoreless draw with Malmo in Group G.
The big news of the weekend from Europe was Timmy Chandler scoring the only goal in Nurnberg's 1-0
win over Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga. Chandler's goal came in the 13th, minute at the
Easy-Credit Stadion, with Raphael Schafer needing one save for the shutout. Nurnberg are 14th in
the table, two points above the relegation zone.

Timmy Chandler may have scored a goal on Saturday, but he wasn't the only U.S. men's national
team defender to make an impact with his left foot.
Jonathan Spector helped rescue Birmingham City from defeat, assisting on an 87th-minute
equalizer in the club's 2-2 draw with Blackpool.

Brondby IF won its first game since early October in shocking fashion this past weekend, and it
can partially thank Clarence Goodson for that.
Along with going the distance and limiting first-place FC Copenhagen to one goal, Goodson scored
the opener in Brondby's 2-1 victory on Sunday.
Babak Rafati attempted to take his life in a hotel room
The Bundesliga game between 1.FC Köln and 1. FSV Mainz 05 was called off today following the
attempted suicide of the match referee Babak Rafati.
The news of Rafati's situation was learned by the two teams around one hour and a half before
the game and, being unable to find a replacement official at short notice, it was felt by all
concerned to postpone the match.
The U.S. men's national team returns to action on Friday with a match-up against France, a match
that should tell us plenty about the current state of Jurgen Klinsmann's team.
Klinsmann will have a strong group to choose from for Friday's match. Both Landon Donovan and
Clint Dempsey will be available, and German-born Fabian Johnson is set to make his national team
debut.

With the second half of the Europa League group stages kicking off today, the English Premier
League quartet involved in the competition are sitting pretty in their respective groups.
Tottenham and Stoke City sit atop Groups A and E, respectively, on seven points, while
Birmingham City is tied for the top spot with Club Brugge on six points — the two sides clash
today.

Jozy Altidore's red-hot start to the season with AZ Alkmaar cooled off a bit in October, but
Thursday should give him an opportunity to get back on track.
Having failed to find the back of the net last month, Altidore will look to get back on the
scoresheet when AZ face Austria Vienna in a Europa League match.
