The handshake between Rafa Benitez and Mark Hughes at the end of today's 2-2 draw spoke
volumes.
Although a pulsating second half had rescued what looked to be a turgid scoreless draw provided
plenty of the attacking threat both sides possess, their frustrated expressions bore the knowledge
of all too familiar frailties and failings that continue to cost their respctive sides.

So reportedly this is how the kerfuffle following the first leg of the Play-Off between France
and Ireland broke out at the final whistle. Keith Andrews was about to slump to the floor in the
knowledge that overturning a one goal deficit back in France is a tough thing to do. Along comes
Lassana Diarra and rather than come over to offer him a handshake he reportedly said the
following.

do I know this? Because it is the nature of modern day sport.

Come Sunday, expect the television cameras to be zooming in on the faces of Rafa Benitez and Sir
Alex Ferguson as they try to detect whether the pressure is getting to either manager. Attention
will be paid to body language and how each manager interacts with one another, what the handshake
is like and to make sure they exchange pleasantries after the final whistle is blown.

The robot. Few can deny it's a classic move. Night clubs all around the world have bear witness
to the sight of drunk middle-aged businessmen crooning their way across the dance floor like C3PO's
handicapped brother; mechanically drinking cups of tea, waving, pulling rope or, if they're feeling
particularly maverick, the robo-handshake.

Towards the end of Frances' 3-1 win over Austria in the Stade de France, one wacky and totally
original soul ran out on the pitch, waving a French flag. Unfortunately, this human waste of time
didn't wear the right shoes for pitch invading, and so he went down hard right at midfield, before
scrambling to his feet and evading stewards just so he could get taken down with a proper crunch
moments later.

From Handshake to Pile-On - The Evolution of the Goal Celebration

of you as the chosen mode of goal celebration? In a recent game, scorer Wayne Rooney flopped to
the ground, and waited for the pile-on.

Here's Pele with Brazilian President Lula at the opening ceremony of the 121st IOC session and
XIII Olympic Congress in the Opera house in Copenhagen on Thursday. Note that Lula is clearly wary
of the easily excitable Pele. He tries not to look at him as the legendary footballer eyes him up
while going in for a handshake with another man.

Abu Zilif writes:
MLS made me a soccer fan. I stopped hating soccer because I got to experience the World

Roberto DiMatteo is wrong for defending Thomas in much the same way Mark Hughes was wrong. This
kind of blind defending of the players on the part of managers does neither the players and
managers nor the game itself any good. Following the match, DiMatteo spoke with the BBC and

I'm sure by now you've heard that David Beckham loves a good, solid handshake.
Apparently the guy is not a fan of the fist pound or the high five. Just simply the
handshake.
And of course we all remember Becks' most recent attempt at receiving a handshake with a
Galaxy fan at halftime of his first home match against his other squad, AC Milan.
