"No, we're the underdogs."
Ayr v Kilmarnock. An Ayrshire derby in a league cup semi final and nobody wants to be
favourites.
No surprise there. Derby games are different. Derby games in cups carry an extra weight. Make it a
semi final and you've got a hell of a game on your hands.
When I was writing about the evolution of the football programme a few weeks ago I mentioned a
Hibs v Liverpool Fairs Cup programme from December 1970 that carried an interview with Bill
Shankly.I can't remember seeing an interview with a visiting manager in a programme before.
Here it is then. The end.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed here and on Twitter.
Thanks to everyone who had donated to Alzheimer Scotland and/or the Homeless World Cup.
OK.
It's been quite a 24 hours. I've confused myself with some of the debating angles I've taken.
As I mentioned in the last hour I've been bowled over by the support I've got from
tweetsport.co.uk
So it's a real treat to welcome Eilidh Donaldson of that parish as our final guest debater of the
Scottish Football Blog blogathon.
Thanks again Eilidh - @tweetsportcouk
What a way to welcome Sunday's daylight.
Midnight. Halfway through. Normal people might be thinking about bed. Or working up to cutting some
moves. Or getting enough drink in them to make a mistimed, ill-judged and futile pass at someone
they've spotted across the bar.
And I'm gearing up for a night of football chat. If you've been out, got back and have some change
kicking about in your pockets it would be very, very gratefully received.
There exists no such concept of the comfortable silence when it comes to football in Edinburgh.
One week, noises out of Tynecastle note the length of time it has been since senior squad players
last saw pounds deposited into their bank accounts, and the next week these same players are
finally paid but rumours of a January firesale for them run rampant.
Och aye the noo shirt Scotland have launched their new kit ahead of tonight's decisive Euro 2012
qualifier against Spain at Hampden. How much wear they get out of it very much depends on whether
they can pull off a shock result against the World Cup and European Championship holders. If they
do manage to [.
David said moreover, the Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw
of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go,
and the Lord be with thee.
And, by jove, the Lord was with David.
Unfortunately Goliaths have got a bit more sophisticated in the 400 years since King James
authorised his version of the bible.
An early morning scramble for tickets for London's 2012 Olympic jamboree this morning.
Not that I'll actually be going to London. I was one of the many unlucky customers who missed out
in the first round of ticketing.
Today I had to make do with a couple of football tickets. When the eyes of the world are on London
I will be in Glasgow and Newcastle, my fix of faster, higher, stronger coming at Hampden and St
James' Park.
Motherwell v Celtic 2011 Scottish Cup Final- 21 May 2011 Final score:- Motherwell v Celtic 0-3 (
Ki, Craigan Own goal, Mulgrew) Celtic beat Motherwell 3-0 to lift the Scottish Cup in rainy
conditions at Hampden. It is coach Neil Lennon's first silverware in charge of the Hoops during the
10/11 season.
Dundee United v Rangers 2011 Tannadice Park- 19 April, 2011- 19/4/2011 Final score:- Dundee United
v Rangers 0-4 ( Steven Whittaker*2 penalties, Nikica Jelavic, Kyle Lafferty) Referee Willie Collum
sends of three players for Dundee United as they are convincingly beaten 4-0 by Rangers at
Tannadice in the SPL.
Rangers fit in their first, and only, trundle to Tannadice of this much chopped and changed season
just before the SPL-it.
Making hay while the sun shone on Celtic at Hampden, Rangers went top on Saturday with a 2-1 win
over St Mirren. They can extend that lead to four points this evening, although Celtic will have
two games in hand.
Aberdeen v Celtic.
Four games so far this season and Celtic have racked up an aggregate score of 17-1. They probably
just edge it as favourites today.
Coming into the weekend this was seen as the semi-final that would likely turn out the more one
sided affair. Then marvellous Motherwell led the sorry Saints on a first half dance at Hampden
yesterday.
Rangers v Dundee United 2011 2nd April, 2011- Ibrox Park, Glasgow Final score:- Rangers v Dundee
United 2-3 ( Jelavic, Naismith/ Robertson, Russell, Goodwillie) Dundee United take advantage of
Rangers' defensive frailties to shock Walter Smith's side 3-2 at Ibrox after trailing 2-1 at one
point of time in the game.
The SPL sales drive for their shiny new double decker continues. Ten up. Twelve down.
The Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser reported yesterday:
Neil Doncaster will today meet with all 30 SFL clubs as the push for league
reconstruction continues.
The SPL chief executive is to lay out his organisation's proposals for change at the SFL quarterly
meeting of clubs at Hampden.
A new dawn for an attacking Scotland?
Craig Levein had already been musing a change in emphasis before last night's win in Dublin,
dictated by the players at his disposal. This was taken to mean no repeat of the 4-6-0 formation he
used against Czech Republic.
But, as guest blogger Craig Cairns argues below, we should be cutting Levein more slack for his
willingness to experiment.
