Liverpool are planning a £15m double swoop for West Ham pair Matt Upson and Herita Ilunga.
Kop boss Rafa Benitez is already eyeing a £12m move for Hammers striker Carlton Cole, 26.
But the Londoners are holding out for around £20m for the England star which is likely to stretch
the Reds' budget too far.

West Ham finally got their second win of the season with a last minute Zavon Hines' equaliser. It
was a match that Villa lost rather than West Ham winning it. Nevertheless, the spirit and
determination of Zola's men cannot be faulted and definitely this must spur the Hammers to climb up
the Premiership table.

West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola was over the moon after Zavon Hines' last-gasp strike earned his
Hammers their first win since the opening day of the season. England Under-21 striker Hines was the
toast of Upton Park after he netted the winner in the fourth minute of injury time.
Zola said:
"This could be the turning point for us.

I think I may have discovered what West Ham's problem is.
Their poor results may indeed be symptomatic of some problems with the manager, who some are
suggesting is a leading contender for the sack race.
I think it is likely to have more to do with where the club focuses its attention, which it has to
be said does not appear to feature football that predominantly.

At the beginning of season 08-09, I think you could have had very good odds on Carlton Cole
scoring 5 Premiership goals or more, becoming the fulcrum of the West Ham team and then breaking in
to the England squad. 15 months is a long time ago and in that time Carlton Cole has morphed from a
clumsy, well-built support striker who weighed in with the odd goal to a feared centre forward,
capable of giving the very best defenders a real working over.

West Ham may well be going down this season with a string of useless displays and a home record
that even Derby County would be proud of. However, if the Hammers had kept hold of their top
players where would they be now? Top 10, top 6, top 4 or even challenging for the title? Here's our
Ultimate 11 of Ex West Ham players still plying their trade in the Premier League today,
unfortunately for them, for other teams.

Steve Bruce has already shown what he is capable of after immediately transforming Sunderland
from the eternal strugglers to the league's surprise package. The Black Cats have ensured that the
Stadium of Light remains a fortress this season as they have not lost at home since their opening
home fixture against league leaders Chelsea.

If the Hammers think that coming back to draw with Arsenal represent the proverbial "turn the
corner" then the good work must be continued with another fine display against Sunderland. Playing
at the Stadium of Light is not an easy task as the Black Cats have very passionate fans which can
prove to be the 12th man for the home side.

Darren Bent has given Steve Bruce and Sunderland a boost as he is in line to make a return from

the Hammers in the second half.

Shall we just give up now? Fuck the title race, fuck the cups and fuck Arsenal. Lets just give up
because we drew with fucking West Ham. Excuse the fucking French.

me. Some of the comments I've seen made me shake my head with despair.

by CARL ELDRIDGEÂ Arsene Wenger was clearly riled after we threw away a 2-0 lead in the draw
against West Ham at Upton Park yesterday.
As were the Arsenal hordes as we filed out of the ground with a miserable shuffle in search of a
tincture to ease the pain.
"2-0, and you f***** it up," sung some spanner on the way out of the ground and I questioned why
he felt the need to celebrate a draw.

Talk of a bunch of self entitled players. This team will not get a "major trophy", or even a
self titled piddling little one. For the second match in a row, Arsenal decided to "wing" it.
Wenger's memos of bravado do not seem to be filtering down to the players. At the very least,
one would expect some positive response to such a bold and unequivocal statement.

Â
There is reason to be concerned.
If AZ Alkmaar was a foreshadowing, the Gunners did their best to not heed the warning. Â Anyone

Coming from a long-time Arsenal fan, this article is not easy to write; but at
the same time, if any fan of football today chose to watch Arsenal vs West Ham, you would have seen
a pattern like this:
Arsenal take the lead through an attacking move with less than 6 passes (the
most common move of scoring a goal, as stated in Inverting The Pyramid) and partly due to
an error by the England first-choice goalkeeper, Robert Green.

It was with some sadness I heard that Gareth Southgate had been sacked yesterday. I always felt
he had the making of a decent manager. I suppose in these days of quick fix changes and changing
managers when a few results go wrong, none of us should be surprised.
OK, Boro were relegated last season but I felt he was working with his hands tied a little.

The Premier League is set to resume following the international break and this
round will definitely favour the teams that didn't have a lot of players away on international

All through this week I have been trying to find reasons (and excuses) for West Ham's lack of form
in the Barclays Premier League. But today I believed that I may have found the reason as to why the
Hammers have failed to receive rewards for their slick one-touch football.
Filtering through the English Premiership news and results, two missing players stood out and Zola
have not been able to compensate for their absence.

There has been quite a lot of talk about goal celebrations over the last few weeks. This was
largely due to Emmanuel Adebayor's ridiculous decision to sprint the length of the pitch and skid
like a kid at a wedding when he scored against former employers Arsenal. The Togo striker was
reprimanded by the FA after that ill-advised move, but since then Adebayor should have learnt a
lesson in humility from his team-mates and a former City star.

English Premier League is one of the most exciting football leagues in Europe
but while Chelsea shouldn't have too many problems taking the title from United, the relegation
race promises to be as exciting as ever. Last weekend both Hull City and Portsmouth boosted
their survival hopes by beating direct relegation rivals, while Wolves, Birmingham and
Blackburn proved they could be involved in the battle to avoid the drop.

After the away defeat against Manchester City, Zola had stated that the team including himself will
have to bring the thunder back. This basically means that the players must show desire, motivation
and fighting spirit if West Ham are to start winning again.
If the Manchester City loss can be considered an "acceptable defeat", then this weekend's match
against Fulham is rightly labelled as "the Cup final".
