Americans Abroad: Dempsey and Fulham win, Friedel earns a draw with Villa

It was a low key weekend for Americans Abroad this weekend as there were goals scored in the top leagues. Clint Dempsey started for Fulham as they earned a victory and moved into 7th place in the Premier League. Brad Friedel was able to earn a draw as Villa are in position for European soccer next season.

Americans Abroad: Onyewu scores 2 goals, Edu and Davies score goals

It was a busy and eventful weekend in European Soccer for Americans playing abroad. Here's a recap of Americans playing in the top European leagues.

Oguchi Onyewu - Standard Liege beat Royal Excelsior Mouscron 3-0 - Belgium Jupiler Pro League - 2 goals - 90 minutes - Standard won easily and are now tied atop the league table as Onyewu scored two goals.

It was a light midweek for Americans playing in Europe with most of the matches taking place in the Scandinavian leagues. Charlie Davies played for Swedish side Hammarby, Parkhurst for FC Nordsjælland, and unfortuantely Heath Pearce has been sent to the 2nd team of Bundesliga 2 side Hansa Rostock.

Swedish Allsvenskan: Kalmar Defend Title With Gefle Deadlock

Life in the Swedish Allsvenskan began for 2009 as Kalmar FF embarked on the focal objective of defending their title crown, despite an initial drawback as they stranded a one-goal advantage to draw with Gefle IF.

After accomplishing their first championship in 2008, Kalmer travelled northwards to the city of Gävle in pursuit of their title protection and Rasmus Elm, whose brother Victor and last season's top goalscorer Patrik Ingelsten both departed for SC Heerenveen over the winter months, ensured the season started to almost perfection by successfully converting a penalty on 29 minutes.

Trelleborgs FF Stuns IFK Göteborg

TRIAL: Tyler Hemming On Trial With Hammarby

According to this report on Swedish club Hammarby's website, the Toronto FC Defender and London, Ontario native is on trial with the Swedish 2001 Champions and 2007 UEFA Intertoto Cup Champions, Hammarby IF. Three Brothers Leading Kalmar FF in the Allsvenskan

It is a rarity for two brothers to play together on the same team in a give sport. Even more of a rarity is when you have three brothers playing on the same team. Such is the case with Kalmar FF of the Swedish Allsvenskan who thus far are the league's early leaders through five matches.
Victor, David, and Rasmus Elm along with their teammates currently hold a three point edge in the league but their grip on first will certainly be in jeopardy this weekend as they take on third-place side Hammarby IF. Click to continue reading...

Apparently I'm behind the times on this guy, but I'm glad I finally caught up with the rest of the world. For a midfielder, the Turkish International is a goal-scoring machine.
