Novak Djokovic beat Rafal Nadal in a herculean Australian Open finals that lasted 6 hours. The
same day Arsenal had to summon every fibre to overcome a two goal deficit to overcome Aston Villa
and prevent a FA Cup exit.
And then there is the US Women's team that blanked Canada, 4-0, en route to winning the CONCACAF
qualifiers to the London Olympics.
The U.S. Women's national team figured to face a tougher task against Guatemala on Sunday than
it did after a 14-0 thrashing of the Dominican Republic to open CONCACAF Olympic qualifying on
Friday.
The challenge was slightly tougher, but only by a goal.
Abby Wambach scored two goals to move into third place on the all-time international goals
scored list, while Sydney LeRoux added five goals in a 13-0 thrashing of Guatemala in Vancouver on
Sunday.
It was another easy win for the USWNT tonight as the rolled right on through Guatemala, winning
the game 13-0. Unlike the game against the Dominican Republic, the goals didn't come as quickly
during this game, as the US tried to feel out their Guatemalan counterparts during the opening five
minutes.
Last night the Portland Timbers played an away match for the first time since I joined the
Stumptown Footy team, an occasion that I've been looking forward to for a while and which presented
me with the opportunity to try out our new bar review feature: The Boozehound Report (now accepting
title suggestions).
WakeMed Soccer ParkThe U.S. Women's National Team rounded out their pre-World Cup tour with
consecutive 2-0 victories over Japan. The second game was played in Cary, NC (home of the Carolina
Railhawks) and MLS Reserves were on hand to witness the action. It was a beautiful night at Wake
Med Soccer Park and the crowd was boisterous.
I recently received an impassioned plea from eight young lads to ask if I could help them
fulfill their dream of getting to the Emirates Stadium. AFC Fink Brau are a group of Spurs fans who
are involved in the O2 Fives. As you might have guessed, it's a five-a-side competition where the
16 teams with the most 'likes' on their page get to play in the event at Arsenal's home.
Great post by Neal, exploding some of the easy myths around Arsenal. And great comments everyone.
I think you've hit on some interesting points. Let me add my $0.02: Mia Hamm First of all, if
you don't know... now you know. Song He's unique amongst the Arsenal midfield that he's comfortable
as a ball-winner.
FC Milwaukee midfielder Ally Andreini (Oshkosh West) was one of 81 players
invited to the Elite Clubs National League/US Club Soccer id2 National Training Camp last month in
Tallahassee, Fla.
The four-day camp for players born in 1994 and '95 included U.S. Soccer women's development
director Jill Ellis, U.
Kirstine Lilly. 352 caps for the United States Women's Nation Team. 130 goals. Two World Cups. An
absolutely legend. Yesterday, Lilly announced her retirement from professional soccer after over
twenty years playing for the national team. She was both the youngest (16) and oldest (38) to
soccer for the Lady Nats, as well.
