Tom Soehn's term as Head Coach of DC United has come to a close Monday evening when he met with
Kevin Payne and the rest of the head honchos in the DC United front office. Tom Soehn did not await
the decision from Kevin Payne and left on his own terms.
Now the decision comes down to who is next to step up and be the new DC United Head Coach?

Not the most intense game, but the Fire got the "W" and that is what counts! Playoff
bound!
Wish I could have seen the halftime event where Chris Armas was named to the Fire's Hall of
Fame, the "Ring of Fire". Thankfully Peter Wilt, the Fire's former GM and member of the "Ring of
Fire", was posting some great pics on his Twitter feed!

Background: 1996 was MLS's inaugural year, so every record set that year became
both an MLS season and all-time record. Most of those season records have fallen since, but one
still exists. Leonel Alvarez received 14 yellow cards during that first MLS season, and his ugly
track record has never been matched.

Don't worry, it's going down.
And South Africa is happy to report it leading into the World Cup. Though robberies are up and that
pushed the overall crime up.
Only slightly more than 18K were murdered last year. But I think when it comes to that stuff, no
news is good news.

Somewhat related to yesterday's post on the National Soccer Hall of Fame closing is the news that
the College Football Hall of Fame might be relocating again (via Ideological Twaddle):
Prior to its residence in South Bend, the hall of fame was located in Cincinnati. But
apparently, foot traffic was lacking in Indiana.

I was going to wait until Wednesday's former Wizards update for this, but decided it was too big of
news to not touch on, on it's own. Former Wizard, Diego Gutierrez, is going to be receiving a big
honor on Thursday. Gutierrez, who retired at the end of last season will be inducted into the
Humanitarian Hall of Fame in Boise Idaho.

Surprisingly little has been written about the National Soccer Hall of Fame closing its doors to
the public, although Michael Lewis is sad and Dan Loney thinks the United States Soccer Federation
should take the blame. There have also been wild proposals on BigSoccer to move the Hall to New
York's new stadium or some such place.

It was announced yesterday that former Fire midfielder Chris Armas -- who played with the club
from its inception in 1998 through 2007 -- will be inducted into the "Ring of Fire" Hall of Fame
prior to Fire's October 22nd game against Chivas USA. "As someone who once shared the pitch with
Chris, I can say that he exemplifies the Fire's motto of Honor, Tradition and Passion," said Fire

The US Team's next test will be October 10th against Honduras. With only one win to go before
clinching a World Cup berth I think we need to start looking ahead. I mean, at this point the US
is nearly assured of attending World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

If you've watched ESPN today, you have seen much hoopla regarding Michael Jordan's induction
into the basketball Hall of Fame. Hoopla - get it? Basketball hoops? OK, if you've seen his
interview you may remember that he attributes his success to playing each game like it's his last.
That's the part that doesn't make sense.

A few months ago, I wrapped up my list of the players in my inaugural MLS Hall of Fame class.
Making the list got me thinking. What if, in addition to an MLS Hall of Fame, there was an MLS Hall
of Shame for players who have committed foul deeds or crushed their fans' spirit time and
again.

Just one match tomorrow, and it's a big one for occasional Cup overachiever Cameroon, which could
