When Arsenal collapse in comical style, such as from 4-0 up to draw 4-4 with Newcastle last
season, or conceding a goal seconds after equalising in the 3-2 defeat to Swansea, it feels
fashionable to say "only Arsenal could have lost a game like that".
And there's something to it, to be fair, our defence has generally been the worst in the top
four over the years, and we have a poor record in points lost from winning positions.
I'll always remember the first game of football I ever went to: I was aged six; the location was
Aggborough in Kidderminster as the Harriers took on Aston Villa in Graham Allner's testimonial. It
was a few years before I was ever introduced to top flight football at Villa Park or First Division
football at Molineux.
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger must have made a classic half-time team talk this weekend to
inspire the Gunners to come back from 2-0 against Aston Villa in the FA Cup. After the game, Wenger
was asked what he had said, but he replied that "What is said in the Dressing Room stays in the

If you carefully select portions of this game you can make a video highlighting many of
Arsenal's major problems. With another selection you could also show the reasons that make the
Gunners such a great team to watch and support. It was a classic Cup tie and one that will remain
in fans' memories for years to come if it can spark a run of form.
Arsene Wenger has openly spoken of his delight about Arsenal's thrilling come-from-behind 3-2
win to progress to the FA Cup fifth round at the expense of Aston Villa but refuses to discuss the
half-time conversation with his players.
The Gunners were 2-0 down heading into the interval following goals from Richard Dunne and
Darren Bent but two second-half penalties from Robin van Persie and a deflected goal strike from
Theo Walcott completed a memorable triumph.

Frazier Campbell made a goalscoring return from injury at the Stadium of Light on Sunday,
netting the Black Cats' equaliser after 18 months out of action.
Nigel Reo-Coker says he has 'no respect' for Craig Bellamy after a bust-up between the pair during
Bolton's 3-1 win over Liverpool.
There has been a long-running feud between the pair since 2007 and those hostilities were resumed
at the Reebok Stadium.
Bellamy and Reo-Coker clashed just before the half-time interval with Bolton team-mate Zat Knight
forced to drag Reo-Coker away as the war of words threatened to explode.
So the African Cup of Nations got underway yesterday with a couple of shocking results that i
was not expecting. Hosts Equatorial Guinea making their first ever appearance at the AFCON picked
up 3 points from a Libyan side who failed to make their possession count.
However, the most shocking result was Senegal's 2-1 defeat to Zambia.

Clint Dempsey's 50th, 51st, and 52nd goal for Fulham lifted the Cottagers over Newcastle.
The first half was all Newcastle and just before halftime they went ahead through Danny
Guthrie's superlative left footed strike. Martin Jol must have mixed chili powder in his half time
pep talk as he effected two very important changes, taking Bryan Ruiz from central midfield,
bringing on Chris Baird, and introducing Andy Johnson as Fulham turned the game a 180 degrees in
the second half
The former Crystal Palace man made an immediate impact troubling the Newcastle defense with his
zip.
Last night, the US men's national team took on the US under 23 team in a scrimmage in LA. Both
teams are currently involved in camps. The US team for their upcoming games against Venezuela and
Panama, and the U23's as they continue to prepare for their upcoming Olympic qualifying. Three
Sporting KC players appeared for the full national team last night.

Tottenham Hotspur tonight moved level on points with second placed Manchester United after a
performance of patience and high quality.
Everton turned up at The Lane as many teams now do, to sit deep and try and frustrate Spurs.
It's to the credit of Harry Redknapp and his team that they didn't get frustrated and saw the
opposition off to seal the points.

The Comets looked like they were going to give the Wichita Wings a leg back into the Turpike Trophy
competition between the two teams. Poor shooting and some good goalkeeping Sanaldo had the Comets
facing a 7-2 deficit heading into the fourth quarter, but 4 unanswered goals saw the Comets pull
out the 10-7 win taking a 3-0 lead in their series with the Wings.

Andy Carroll gets a tackle in...It was a score draw at Anfield
for Liverpool on Boxing Day after the Reds struggled to find a winner against Blackburn. The away
side took the lead at the end of the second half but Liverpool found an equaliser via Maxi
Rodriguez. Steve Kean must have been over the moon with his sides performance and will be very
grateful of the sole point.

FC Barcelona resumed domestic action last night following their triumph in the FIFA Club World
Cup and helped themselves to a 9-0 rout over third tier side L'Hospitalet in the Round of 32 of the
Copa Del Rey (Spanish Cup).
Barcelona, who already led 1-0 from the first leg of this tie, played a relatively strong side
against their Catalonian neighbours and had Pedro to thank for getting the ball rolling after just
11 minutes when converting a penalty to open the scoring.

Aston Villa 1-2 Arsenal - Premier League 21st December 2011
Wiry wingman Marc Albrighton netted the 20,000 goal in Premier League history but it was an
under-par visiting Arsenal side that took home all three points in a tough, tense pre-Christmas
encounter.
Subdued Song turned the game
We came, we fought and we came away with zero. Yet there's still much to admire about this
Arsenal side. We did not get thrashed by the team supposedly to be champions elect. Neither were we
outplayed and hung on by the skin of our teeth.
Arsene Wenger fielded the same line-up as the one that took to the field on our 125th
anniversary celebrations.
From word of mouth to a memorable turning point, a new set of tactics are emerging and,
surprisingly, were even on show during Barcelona's latest win over Real Madrid.
Jonathan Wilson writes of the potential growing trend of the 3-1-4-2 alignment in the modern
game.
Something very odd happened at the end of last week.

Sitting down to type when one's lip is literally still quivering with rage must surely be
ill-advised, but how else to express sheer, undiluted incandescence? Here at AANP Towers we are
generally loath to criticise the officials, since their job is jolly difficult, their mistakes are
always honest and frankly I imagine that to a man the players make many more errors per game.

Following recent statement regarding Nemanja Vidic's injury status which previously arrived from
the player's agent, Manchester United's manger, Sir Alex Ferguson has now confirmed that the
Serbian international won't be available for the rest of this season.
Fergie revealed that the situation has actually been predicted by United's medical team, stating
that the player will immediately see a specialist and get an operation once the swollen on the knee
gets better.

Vito Mannone who replaced Fabianski in the Aresenal goal after 25 minutes probably wishes he was
still on the bench after he tried to clear a David Fuster shot with his foot instead of just
catching it, a mistake which gives Olympiakos a 2-0 half-time lead in Greece.

Pity poor Motherwell. If you want to try something (sort of) new and attract the punters with cheap
tickets it's probably essential that you get ninety minutes played.
Unfortunately this Friday night project was abbreviated.
