Courtney Campbell: Can Mexico Lose With Him as the Ref?

US Soccer by the Numbers 09 September @ 10:20 PM EST

I haven't had a chance to see the play and knowing Honduras, a foul in the penalty area isn't beyond belief but Courtney Campbell has for the third time in three matches involving Mexico awarded Mexico a penalty kick. In each match, the game was tied 0-0 at the time of the call. This time it was a 73d minute penalty kick in Mexico's World Cup Qualifier with Honduras.

The enigmatic 29 year old was capable of the odd solid game but all too often was caught on the wrong end of a defensive blunder. Click to continue reading...

Lesly Fellinga of Heerenveen to TFC

TFC Connected by Ben Van Weelden 01 August @ 12:05 PM EST
Bye bye Velez?
Steve Goff, from the Soccer Insider, is reporting that we are closing in on a deal for Haitian international left-back Lesly Fellinga. The 23 year-old has been capped 4 times by Haiti, and for me, would be a welcome addition to a very weak Toronto FC defense.
If we do sign Fellinga, we will have back up for Jim Brennan at left-back, and that gives us the potential to put Jimmy B at centre half, where he played quite well for us in year one (but that year sucked, so it's really hard to say. Click to continue reading...

The Gold Cup: Past, Present, Future

Pitch Invasion 23 July @ 12:21 PM EST

It's flying under the radar even by American soccer standards, thanks in part to the extensive coverage of the cash cow "World Football Challenge" going on across the country, but the final stages of the Gold Cup the CONCACAF confederation's biennial championship are upon us. Tonight I'll be attending the semi-finals of the Gold Cup at Soldier Field, Chicago.

Scouting Report: Honduras - Semifinals

USSoccerPlayers 23 July @ 08:00 AM EST
What has changed since our Group Stage scouting report on Honduras? Well, the 'beat the United States' prediction took a bit of a hit. The United States turned a questionable first-half into a game winning second, beating Honduras 2-0 on July 8th on their way to winning Group B. Honduras got a 4-0 win in their final Group B game against Grenada, but the United States and Haiti had already shown that Grenada was over-matched. Click to continue reading...

Play For The Shirt

This might be the best use of a soccer jersey this week.

Charlize Theron was just one of the stars who turned out for Chelsea's 2-0 win over Inter Milan last night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Oh, and more than 81,000 others did, too. The international friendly was the second soccer game in the US to draw over 80,000 people (Mexico/Haiti in the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup on Sunday in Dallas was the other).
