desse lado.

DC United made a major statement in CONCACAF Champions League Group B play on Thursday night,
beating Marathon 3-0 at RFK Stadium. Due to the political situation in Honduras, Marathon had to
travel six hours by bus to reach an open airport in Guatemala. "They had a long couple of days
getting here and unfortunately for them, they weren't 100 percent," DC midfielder Ben Olsen said.

It's been a while since I've done a roundup of the leagues in Central America, but now's a good
time now that we're approaching the midway point of the short seasons: In Guatemala, Municipal have
opened up a four point lead over their closest rivals Xelajú. The big surprise in the Apertura has
been the performance of promoted side Juventud Retalteca.

With two relatively straight forward fixtures this week, the United States National Team is
almost guaranteed to be leading the Hexagonal after this international break. But this will
guarantee nothing, as the one time magic 15 point mark for World Cup qualification from CONCACAF is
almost sure to be exceeded by four nations this cycle.

So the CONCACAF Champions League is at the group stage, and here's how it shakes out: Mexico: 4 (2

Panama: 1 (1) Guatemala: 1 (0) Costa Rica: 1 (0) Puerto Rico: 1 (1) The only countries that were
able to place all their representatives from the preliminary round into the group phase were
Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, and Puerto Rico.

With J Hutcherson -- Tonight at Giants Stadium, Jamaica gets the CONCACAF slot in an international
friendly doubleheader, the odd man out treatment for a team that should be factoring in the
Hexagonal round of World Cup Qualifying. Instead, Jamaica is rebuilding. There's a point that
Trinidad & Tobago are doing the same thing as they play through the final round of qualifying.

Thanks to the 2010 World Cup finals, the Primera Division de Mexico's Apertura has started a little
early this year, and Pachuca is off to strong start. Despite winning the league during the
2008/2009 Clausura, Pachuca lost to Pumas, 3-2, in the finals. To date, Pachuca is the only team in
Mexico's top flight to have played two games, and they've won both of them.

Tomorrow's the start of the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League. I have to go to bed right now and I
don't have time to preview all of the series, but I'll start with the two to be played tomorrow:
Pachuca vs. Jalapa: Pachuca have the advantage in talent level and match preparation (Mexican
league started last weekend, Guatemala's Apertura starts on Saturday).

Honduras...again...?Really?It's weird how she goes with the U.S. national team. A couple years ago
it seemed like Panama was there at every turn. Then it was, unfortunately, the anti-soccer of
Guatemala that seemingly was standing in front of the U.S. every other match. Now that onus falls
to Honduras, which will play the U.

- It is the first time the U.S. had four different scorers in a Gold Cup match
- All four goalscorers were part of the 2008 Olympic Team
- The 4-0 win marked the second highest margin of victory in team history in the Gold Cup,
matching two identical scorelines against El Salvador in 2002 and 2007
- Robbie Rogers became the first U.

This is Fredy Garcia of Guatemala, and he is a proper hard player!
Faced with the full force of a ball from Mexico's Luis Miguel Noriega from all of 2 yards, that

game.
That must have hurt though!

Almost as instructive as the U.S. loss to Brazil Sunday in the final of the Confederations Cup
