Squad sheets: Fulham v Liverpool

Mixed emotions will accompany Liverpool on their annual trip to the Thames. The squad will reflect fondly on how they beat the hosts 5-2 in this fixture last season with a breathless and, at times, awesome, attacking display, but there will also be sadness at the recent loss of Lucas Leiva to a season-ending knee injury.

Oooh, missed this. At some point in the recent past, probably reading Timmy's bit on Grygera, we had our 1,000,000th page view (visitor). How about that? 1,000,000 times someone has come to this website, some to read about Arcimboldo, some to read about Fulham. Whatever, 1,000,000 is a hell of a number, even these days.

Other things:

Mark Schwarzer seems to be back to something like top form very impressed

Nice how Stephen Kelly has won people over another good game from him. It's a shame about Zdenek Grygera though. He's looked a fine defender and this doesn't look like a minor injury, so our thoughts are with him.

"Danny Murphy is a fantastic player and he was great for me last year but he is not getting any younger and his influence on the team is huge.

"He knows and everyone knows that at some time in the near future he will have to be replaced and to replace his input, that will have to be a quality player.

Nothing from me I was at Dad's for his birthday. Saw the MOTD highlights and it looked like perhaps we were a shade unlucky: Kasami flagged offside (he'll get his first goal soon, eh?) when it looked touch and go, Ruiz hitting the post from close in when a goal seem more likely. Really though you wouldn't have expected us to unlock a Roy Hodgson defence away from home and 0-0 was to be expected.

There's an old coaching maxim that when you defend you try to make the pitch small so there's no room, and when you attack you try to make it big, so there's space to play in. Fulham admirably though they played at times tonight seem to have it the wrong way round, contstantly attacking a forest of defenders, while having to defend big spaces while undermanned.

A few Americans made moves in Europe ahead of the close of the summer transfer window, but some of the bigger names being tossed around the rumor mill stayed put.

The major move to Arsenal never materialized for Clint Dempsey, who remains at Fulham. Jermaine Jones is still out of favor at Schalke.
