Luis Suarez is back from his suspension, Manchester United's tired of having 3,000 Liverpool
supporters out-sing 70,000-odd United fans whenever the clubs meet at Old Trafford, and it turns
out Liverpool signed an attacking player over the January transfer window after all. And also it's
Friday, so let's get busy wasting a bit of time.
Andy Carroll is hoping Steven Gerrard's comeback can help kick-start the striker's difficult start
to his Liverpool career.
Injuries to both players have resulted in Carroll and Gerrard starting just one game together -
last week's Carling Cup semi-final first leg win at Manchester City - since the forward's
£35million move from Newcastle last January.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard put more than two months of frustration behind him to score on his
first start since October as his side beat Oldham 5-1 in the third round of the FA Cup.
After three substitute appearances following recovery from an ankle infection the 31-year-old
finally reclaimed his place in the team and expertly dispatched the penalty which put his side into
a lead they did not surrender despite a valiant effort from their League One opponents.

Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, prayed Steven Gerrard's wretched luck is over after seeing a
brilliant cameo from his skipper inspires victory against Newcastle.
Gerrard's appearance as a second-half substitute in the 3-1 win at Anfield proved to be the game's
pivotal moment, bringing a miserable 12 months for the 31 year-old to a satisfactory conclusion.
There's been an increase in groin and stomach strains at the club since she arrived.
Well, what an incredibly frustrating ninety minutes that was. Upbeat start, good goal, cavalier
flicks, lucky equaliser, chances, chances, CHANCES, saves, saves, more ruddy saves and Wolves rode
their luck to a first point against Arsenal in the Premier League era. You couldn't fault the
team's effort, apart from a slight easing off in the first half, and I agree with Arsene when he
says that we would have won this game 19 times out of 20.
Arsenal 1-1 Wolves
Twenty-seven attempts on goal, eleven attempts on target, thirteen corners, one goal. Frustrating,
to say the least. The goals have dried up again at home (three in three league games – conceding
two in the process), giving Wenger a fresh headache to mull over as we head into the New Year.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish welcomed captain Steven Gerrard's return from injury but warned it
would take time for the skipper to regain full fitness.
Gerrard's 20-minute cameo was a rare bright spot for the Reds in a 1-1 home draw with bottom club
Blackburn.
"It's fantastic that he's got back and he looks a lot stronger and a lot fitter now than he was in
years gone by I think," said Dalglish.
The mood surrounding Liverpool may have improved with the return of Kenny Dalglish, but with a
pair each of losses and draws to go along with four wins as he and the club entered March, that
renewed optimism hadn't always led to results. At least, though, there was a widespread feeling
that it had become a squad capable of turning the proverbial corner and going on a run if they
could only manage to make all the pieces fit together.
Kieran Gibbs has not featured for Arsenal since October following a hernia operation. "Kieran Gibbs
has had surgery on his left groin and he will be out for a month," Arsene Wenger confirmed the grim
news. In recent matches, Arsene Wenger has been forced to play a makeshift back four (all central
defenders) due to [.
Arsene Wenger's worse fear regarding one of his Arsenal's players health condition turns out to
be true after the manager found out that his defender, Kieran Gibbs, will still be out for at least
another month after suffering a setback.
Gibbs has actually been sidelined since October due to a hernia removal surgery but the player
has started training not long ago and scheduled to return around this Christmas period, but
unfortunately there's still a problem with his health condition.
So Kieran Gibbs has had repeated surgery on this troublesome groin and will be out of action for at
least another month, realistically a couple of months is likely. He had initial 'hernia' surgery
in October and was hoped to be back in action this Christmas, unfortunately he suffered a further
setback in training recently, had a repeat scan and then the decision was made to go under the
knife
Let's start this morning with tonight's game against Aston Villa.
We all know about our injured full back situation (more on that anon) and Djourou's sprangled
groin further complicates things. I would suggest we'll see a start for Ignasi Miquel at left back,
Laurent Koscielny on the right with Vermesackser in the middle.

Definitely not one for the faint of heart/groin, in honour of Scott Dann suffering possibly the
grimmest-sounding injury on record at the weekend a 'ruptured testicle' for those who missed it
we've cobbled together ten of the most tear-inducing crotch assaults in recent memory.
Two weeks. Two weeks until the return fixtures begin. Two weeks until people start making
resolutions they won't keep. Two weeks left in 2011. And so the time has arrived to look back on
the last calendar year for Liverpool. A year for Kenny Dalglish, returned to lead his club after a
lengthy time away.
Match report
So, our first league defeat since that trip to White Hart Lane at the start of October, and like
that day I don't think it was a game we really deserved to lose. Our encounters with Mancini's City
have been normally staid affairs due to their defensive approach but their more expansive style
this season meant it was an exciting, open game of football which suited both teams.
Luis Suarez' future hasn't been decided yet, but with a ruling expected later in the day it
might not be long now, and in the meantime new details from the case and Patrice Evra's racism
charges begin to come out. Plus Liverpool lose out on a potential transfer target who was never
really a potential transfer target, and there's good news to share when it comes to Steven
Gerrard's groin and the man it's attached to.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says the club is delighted with the recovery of captain Steven
Gerrard, but are refusing to put a date on his return.
The 31-year-old has been ruled out of the weekend's visit of Manchester City after being blighted
by injury problems this season, having made just five appearances for the Reds.
Rafa clearly believed in the power of his groin a little too much"Pay your tax, my lord, pay
your tax," the Aston Villa fans sang to Harry Redknapp, to the tune of 'Kumbaya', during the second
half on Monday night. Within seconds, the home crowd replied in near unison with: "2-0 down, my
lord, 2-0 down, oh you're 2-0 down.

A classic Kickette quandary for you. Where do you fix your eyes first when simultaneously
confronted with a Xabi Alonso groin tweak and a lycra clad slice of unidentified bottom booty?
Carles has gone with the booty for now. Do you beg to differ?
Dan Gosling had not played too often for Newcastle this season, but he has made two sub
appearances in the last couple of games. Dan Gosling - will need to be patient this season And
against his old club Everton, he did get a decent run-out almost two weeks ago, when he came
on for the injured Yohan Cabaye, who had strained his groin.
Most of the day's action is either wrapped up, currently underway, or about to get going, so we
can gradually shift the focus back to Liverpool for the time being, as there's a few pieces of news
worth mentioning ahead of the weekend. Unfortunately nothing about Steven Gerrard's groin, but at
this point most of you can just rely on your imagination for your daily fix.
Liverpool can cope without Gerrard and Carragher, says Andy Carroll
• Injured duo missed Saturday's win over West Brom • 'We've got lads who can step in when
needed and do a job' The Liverpool striker Andy Carroll believes the team have shown they are
better placed to cope without the services of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

Untold Injury Index – Gameweek 9: Injuries rise again.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is taking heart from the number of chances his side created against
Norwich, despite the fact that most of them went unconverted.
The Reds squandered a host of goalscoring opportunities as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the
Canaries at Anfield.
It meant Liverpool lost ground on the top four in the Barclays Premier League, but Dalglish is
determined to focus on the positives.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits spending six months on the sidelines recovering from a
groin operation has renewed his appetite for the game.
After three substitute appearances totalling just under an hour, Gerrard marked his first start
since his surgery with a goal in Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Manchester United.

hope for rest of the season The Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, says he has returned to action
with a renewed appreciation for the game.
Liverpool v Manchester United – preview
Two weeks after beating Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison the Reds (that's the
‘Reds' of Liverpool, not the ‘Red Devils' of Stretford) today take on Manchester United at
Anfield. Kenny Dalglish told his press conference audience that "everyone" was fit for the match
but with some of the squad away on international duty since that derby win, some only returning as
late as Thursday morning, there hasn't been much time to prepare and that may play a part in which
team is selected.
Martin Kelly has handed Liverpool a welcome boost ahead of Saturday's clash with Manchester United
by declaring himself fit for the north-west derby.
The young defender was sent back to Melwood last week by the England under-21s having complained
about tightness in his groin.
Since then, however, Kelly has been able to train for Liverpool and will be available for selection
when Kenny Dalglish choses his starting XI.

Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio believes it is a 'massive help' that captain Steven Gerrard has
returned to fitness ahead of the meeting with Manchester United.
The midfielder is due to make his first start for over seven months as the two rivals meet at
Anfield in the Saturday lunchtime fixture.
Fabio Aurelio has expressed his delight at the prospect of skipper Steven Gerrard lining up
against Manchester United this weekend in what would be his first start in over seven months but is
wary of the limited preparation that will go into Saturday's early kick-off.
Aurelio has had his own share of injury woes in the past, which has only furthered his
understanding of how the club's starting line-up can be bolstered by the return of someone as
instrumental as Gerrard.
The injury bug seems to have bit Martin Kelly again.
The promising Liverpool defender is making a premature return home from England U-21 duty because
of a groin complaint.
The 21-year-old played 90 minutes for his country in its 3-0 win over Iceland Thursday and felt

New England Revolution rookie centerback A.J. Soares will miss the club's final three games
after undergoing ankle surgery on Thursday.
Soares started 28 games in his first season in MLS, but he injured his left ankle and will need
the next 6-to-8 weeks to go through rehabilitation following the surgery, according to a
team-issued release.
Liverpool first-team coach Steve Clarke believes the time is now right for captain Steven Gerrard
to step up his bid for regular football.
Gerrard was left out of Fabio Capello's squad for Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro as he
has played just 56 minutes of football in three substitute appearances this season.
