Wins for São Paulo and Flamengo left them in 1st and 2nd place respectively with just three games to go in the Campeonato Brasiliero.

53,000 turned up at the estádio Morumbi as São Paulo took on Vitória in on Saturday.

Douglas Costa: over rated and over priced?

Weekend reports in the British press have again linked Grêmio's Douglas Costa with Manchester United.

The Premier League club have apparently been chasing the 18-year-old midfielder for more than a year. Now they may be close to getting their man in a cut-price deal, which could see Costa moving initially for as little as £7 million plus performance-related add-ons.

According to a report in Brazil's Globoesporte.com, Grêmio have turned down an apparent proposal by Manchester United to take Douglas Costa on a short loan period. The Reds wanted to get a real look at the 18-year-old before deciding to make a heavy investment in the player.

Contrary to reports circulating in the British press, Douglas Costa's agent, Cesar Bottega, does not in fact believe that Manchester United are willing to pay the large fee Grêmio want for their 18-year-old.

"I don't believe that they [Manchester United] will reach this figure", the agent told Porto Alegre newspaper Zero Hora.
