Finishing matches off

MIKE JACOBS 13 August @ 12:27 PM EST
As hard as it is to come from behind after conceding a goal, sometimes there are challenges with playing a goal up as well. As SI's Grant Wahl reports, the US has struggled to hold onto leads in recent matches.
It's a team that this summer alone has taken leads against Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico in games that matter, a cause for optimism among U. Click to continue reading...

Article Commentary: Jamie Trecker’s summer review

Project 2010 03 August @ 02:58 PM EST

It's been a while since I've done an article commentary, so I thought I'd take on Jamie Trecker's latest article about the USA's summer results. I'm not Trecker's biggest fan, but this commentary isn't as much about bashing his article as it is about spurring a little debate. Trecker questions how successful this summer was for the Yanks, and it's an good conversation to be had.

Scouting Report: Honduras - Semifinals

USSoccerPlayers 23 July @ 08:00 AM EST
What has changed since our Group Stage scouting report on Honduras? Well, the 'beat the United States' prediction took a bit of a hit. The United States turned a questionable first-half into a game winning second, beating Honduras 2-0 on July 8th on their way to winning Group B. Honduras got a 4-0 win in their final Group B game against Grenada, but the United States and Haiti had already shown that Grenada was over-matched. Click to continue reading...

And Mexico coach Javier Aguirre is kicking at opposing players? Click to continue reading...

What Did I Miss?

Soccer Tickets Online 10 July @ 09:01 PM EST

Back from a two week vacation and I cannot believe everything that I missed.

I left the day before the U.S. v Brazil Confederations Cup Final. A moral victory for the U.S., but 2-0 with 45 minutes to play, you cannot concede a goal minutes into the second half.

The Gold Cup has started and Randall has done a great job covering that with the U.

USSoccerPlayers 10 July @ 11:00 AM EST
By Clemente Lisi - NEW YORK, NY (Jul 10, 2009) USSoccerPlayers -- If there's any doubt whether Robbie Rogers wants to make the decisions on next year's World Cup team complicated for United States coach Bob Bradley, that was put to rest last Saturday when he recorded a goal and two assists in a 4-0 US win over Grenada at the Gold Cup. OUTGOING: Robbie Rogers to Tottenham? Atlético Madrid?

MLS Rumors 09 July @ 12:54 PM EST
Could the Columbus Crew winger be headed back to Europe? If the following rumor is correct maybe he will be playing against national team teammate Clint Dempsey in London. Or perhaps he will play against Americans Guiseppi Rossi and Jozy Altidore in Spain?
Rogers has been scouted intensely since a breakout performance at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada and he had an impressive game vs Grenada in the first US match in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and was named Man of the Match. Click to continue reading...

So, after a night of stepovers, multiple touches and perhaps little else, Freddy Adu left the US Men's National Team today to rejoin his teammates at Benfica in Portugal, where he will use the preseason to either find more playing time or show well enough to drum up interest elsewhere.
Adu is rejoining his club team. Click to continue reading...

Santino's redemption

The first two matches for the US Men's National Team have gone into the Win column and by the looks of things, confidence on the squad is at an all-time high after the extremely successful Confederations Cup tournament.
Grenada fell to the US in their first match 4-0 (perhaps the most notable goal-scorer in the match being Freddy Adu who is still very much pushing for a roster spot at WC 2010) which was to be expected. Click to continue reading...
