Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has successfully undergone surgery on the anterior cruciate
ligament injury that prematurely ended the Brazilian international's season.
Lucas was stretchered off during Liverpool's 2-0 Carling Cup quarter final win over Chelsea last
month, with scans confirming earlier fears that the former Gremio midfielder would require surgery
on his damaged knee.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the Reds have lost their 'best player' after midfielder
Lucas was ruled out for the season.
The Brazilian suffered cruciate ligament damage during Tuesday night's Carling Cup success over
Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and is now facing a long spell on the sidelines.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is yet another example of a talented player who was unfairly
criticised by the kind of dim football fan who has no mind of his or her own. England fans'
treatment of Owen Hargreaves followed a similar path to that of Lucas, but sadly it now seems that
the Brazilian has something else in common with the injury-plagued Manchester City man.
The first professional club of Ronaldinho, Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, usually referred to
as simply Gremio, is a Brazilian professional soccer team based in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.
Gremio is currently in 11th place in the 2011 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A table with two matches
to play.
Since Anderson Luis de Abreu Oliveira joined Manchester United from Porto back in 2007 the Old
Trafford faithful have been split over the midfielder's influence, importance and ability to be
included in Sir Alex Ferguson's first team. Gifted? Yes. Committed? One thinks so. Frustrating?
Also at times yes.
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has reportedly become a transfer target for Bayern Munich.
Bayern head coach Jupp Heynches is thought to be drawing up a list of potential recruits for both
the winter transfer window and the end of the season, and according to Insidefutbol.com, Lucas is
high on that wishlist.
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has defended new signing Jordan Henderson and urged critics of the
England Under-21 international to be patient.
Henderson has started seven of eight matches this season, only sitting out last week's League Cup
win at Brighton, but has struggled to impress despite scoring against Bolton last month.

Dener Augusto de Sousa was a very talented Brazilian player that disappeared without getting a lot
of attention globally. In 1994, and just before the World Cup, his career, and even his whole life
came into halt. He died in a car accident while driving his fast car.
He was a center-forward, and before turning 20, he played his only international games vs.
(San Pablo), Gilberto Silva (Gremio), Alex (Corinthians), Mancini (Atlético Mineiro), Elano
(Santos), Fred y Deco (Fluminense), Rafael Sobis (Inter), Juninho Pernambucano (Vasco da Gama) y

Pumas UNAM is in solid position to capture its seventh league title after earning a hard-fought
1-1 draw in the first leg of the Mexican Clausura final against Morelia Thursday night.
Francisco Palencia gave Pumas the lead with 69th-minute strike with a blast from outside the
area to quite the home crow.
Campeonato Brasileiro 2011 A comprehensive guide is a post from: Just Football
by Rodrigo Beilfuss
As most major football leagues in Europe approach their season finale the Brazilian league
rises in the horizon, and for that there's plenty of reason to smile.
I'm here to tell you why.

It's the business end of the season in many of the top European leagues and we feature some of
the big games from the foot of the table in England, the top in France, as well as Cup finals from
Scotland and Germany.
Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has put an end to any doubts over his Liverpool future by signing
a new, long-term contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2015.
The 24 year-old has emerged over the last two years as one of the club's most improved players and
the club's newly-appointed director of football, Damien Comolli, revealed that tying him to a
long-term deal was a priority after his arrival on Merseyside last year.
Lucas Leiva has committed his future to Liverpool and hopes to extend his contract with the
Merseysiders which expires next year.
The midfielder also wants to re-establish the club in the top four of the Premier League and bring
back the glory days of 2005 when the Reds claimed the Champions League.
Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in signing Douglas Costa, according to teammate Darijo
Srna.
The 20-year-old's reputation has continued to grow during his time with Shakhtar Donetsk in the
Ukraine, with Liverpool one of a trio of Barclays Premier League sides taking an interest in the
player.
FIFA World Cup™ winner Rai has backed fellow Brazilian Lucas to win over his critics at
Liverpool. Midfielder Lucas has been a regular for the Reds since 2007 but often finds his ability
questioned by fans and the media.
However, Liverpool managers Rafael Benitez, Roy Hodgson and now Kenny Dalglish all have shown
enough faith in the former Gremio man to give him regular starts, and 1994 FIFA World Cup captain
Rai believes he will eventually convince others of his ability.
Copa Libertadores 2011: The Story so far... is a post from: Just Football
One month into the 2011 Copa Libertadores South America's premier club
competition and with most teams halfway through the group stages it is a perfect time to catch up
on the story so far, writes Just Football debutant Ralph Hannah.
By NESTOR F. SEBASTIAN
After years of playing in Europe, veteran left-back Roberto Carlos probably forgot how
intense Copa Libertadores competition can get on the field as well as off of it.
Two weeks ago, his Corinthians side was booted from the tournament by Colombia's Deportes Tolima
in the preliminary stage, prompting death threats against him and his family, forcing him to leave
his homeland once again to reportedly sign with Russia's Anzhi.
Kenny Dalglish has hailed Lucas Leiva for his transformation at Liverpool and says it is no
surprise to see him playing the Dunga role for Brazil.
While Lucas, 24, has received the consistent backing of Liverpool managers, he has struggled to win
over the fans since signing from Gremio in 2007.
However, his impressive performances over the last year have seen many supporters come around and,
after he won his ninth cap for his country in the friendly against France this week, Dalglish feels
he fully deserves international recognition.
Real Madrid's new loan signing Emmanuel Adebayor is hoping to make his Liga debut away to
Osasuna on Sunday while La Liga leaders Barcelona could have full back Dani Alves back in time for
the trip to Hercules on Saturday.
Alves is training again after recovering from a torn muscle while Barca captain Carles Puyol and
winger Jeffren are doubts for the match against the only team to have beaten them in the league
this season.
Another new incorporation to Spanish Football this time via VALENCIA CF with their "Winter Market"
signing of Brazilian "Golden Boot" JONAS GONCALVEZ from GREMIO Jonas in action The 26 year old
forward comes at a relative economical price of 1.2M€ & signs until 2015. The new player
complements the Valencia CF forward line along with Aduriz & Soldado.
Anderson has claimed that he wants to see out most of his career at Manchester United before
returning to his first club in Brazil, Gremio.
"I want to make history here," said Anderson. "I look at players like Ryan Giggs
and Paul Scholes and I want to do what they have done. I want to remain here until just before the
end of my career.
Every few weeks, Manchester United will be linked with "the next *insert brilliant player's name
here*" in the next transfer window. The deals never materialise and more often than not, the
players never fulfil the potential.
The next Ronaldinho, Douglas Costas, was rumoured to be joining United from Gremio and caused a
great deal of excitement amongst some reds.
The 30-year-old had also been linked with Gremio and Palmeiras as well as Blackburn Rovers but he
ultimately chose to sign for the Rio de Janeiro-based side.
Ball blows through the net, referee awards a goal kick. (Tis okay the player would get six goals
anyway.)

- Mustache of the day, no doubt. (Three Match Ban)
- One of the many things Twitter is killing. (They All Count)
- Saving the FA Cup.
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean accepts that Ronaldinho transfer is unlikely. The
headlines said it all as the football Gods opened up another period of intrigue and speculation
that is commonly referred to as the January transfer window.
Alas, this was no ordinary story.
The Serie A will be resuming tomorrow, when a fresh slate of midweek games will be played. There
are many interesting fixtures, but the one which I'm really looking forward to is Cagliari - AC
Milan. AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri will be returning to his former club at the Stadio
Sant'Elia, and he'll be bringing a slightly different side than usual with him.
Yesterday, I was browsing my iPhone and stumbled across the news that Blackburn, of all clubs,
had put in an offer to sign Ronaldinho. I had to read it twice but low and behold, it's true! An
initial £6.2m offer has been made to AC Milan with the fee rising over the 2nd and 3rd years if it
is accepted.

Following our previous post on Ronaldinho's fate in Milan this season:
Milan coach Massimo Allegri has confirmed to Sky Sports Italia that the football superstar is
set to leave for his former club Gremio this January:
"We are waiting for his departure to become official," Allegri told Sky Italia.
