David Nikolic, a Milwaukee native who spent 18 years in the UW-Milwaukee program, was
named the Great Lakes Region women's assistant coach of the year by the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America.
Nickolic and head coach Michael Moynihan left the Panthers last month to take the same
positions at Northwestern.
The midfielders who made the the offenses go for the Marquette and University of Wisconsin men's
soccer teams this fall were honored with spots on the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America All-Great Lakes Region team.
Golden Eagles senior Calum Mallace was a first-team selection on the regional team, while
Badgers junior Tomislav Zadro made the second team.
UW-Milwaukee and Marquette each won conference titles, each advanced to the second round of the
NCAA tournament and each had four players named to National Soccer Coaches Association of America
women's all-region teams.
The Panthers' trio of senior forward Sarah Hagen (Appleton North), senior midfielder
Keara Thompson and junior goalkeeper Jamie Forbes were all first-team selections on
the All-Great Lakes Region team, while junior midfielder Helen Steinhauser made the second
team.
There was more than one successful women's soccer team at Marquette this fall.
While the Golden Eagles varsity team claimed a share of its third straight Big East Conference
American Division title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, the school's club
team won the Great Lakes Division of the Women's Midwest Alliance Soccer Conference and advanced to
the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association National Championships.
We talked to Development Academy Technical Advisor Tim Regan as he gears up for the 2011-12
Development Academy season during a recent swing through the Chicago office. Regan is the Technical
Advisor for the Frontier Division as well as a few teams in the Great Lakes Division (BTW he
watches about 50 games during the year, not including Playoffs and Finals Week!

Three of Wisconsin's clubs are moving their top Under-13 through Under-18 boys teams to the
National Premier Leagues, a new U.S. Club Soccer competition that starts this fall and concludes
with the NPL Champions Cup in July 2012.

SO CAL CONQUERS: In the first year that Finals Week has been held outside of

Elite boys soccer players in Wisconsin won't have to choose between playing in the U.S. Soccer
Development Academy and high school soccer next fall. But they will have a new option for the
fall.
Members of the Academy's Central Conference Great Lakes Division, including FC Milwaukee,
decided to stay with the current setup for the 2011-12 season and won't expand the competition.

Andy Adlard (Brookfield East) is Wisconsin's newest professional soccer player,
as the midfielder recently signed with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer.
The Crew chose Adlard, 22, with the 12th pick of the third round of the MLS Supplemental Draft,
the 48th overall selection.
