1
Reports in some of today's papers claim that Sir Alex Ferguson has accepted the job of managing the Great Britain football team in London's 2012 Olympic Games. FIFA president Sepp Blatter has urged Great Britain to organise a football team, but the fear that Scotland, England and Wales would have to enter all competitions as a [. Everything changes but you…

...England, a thousand miles apart? The Olympics have provided us with a wonderful two weeks of entertainment and Team GB (why do they call it this? What happened to Great Britain?) exceeded all expectations and finished in a lofty fourth position in the medals table. Padraig Harrington won his second Open in succession and lifted the fourth major of the year, the US PGA to enter golfing folklore. Click to continue reading...

Who's gonna coach 2012 English Olympic team?

1
I'll tell you who wants it. Former Sounder icon Harry Redknapp.

Of course, he was also quick to criticize Capello's national side. And Portsmouth is about to go 0-2 after a merciless Chelsea-United one-two punch to start the Premiership season.
"I'm absolutely flattered that my name is being mentioned about managing the Great Britain team," gushed Redknapp before adding, "I've had some great managerial jobs during my career but there is no doubt this would be the icing on the cake.

John Terry to go for gold in London 2012?

0
Old-new England captain John Terry looks like he has got a chance of competing in the Olympics even if a Great Britain side do not enter the football tournament. The Chelsea man's post-Moscow penalty shootout trauma does make him look uncannily like a synchronised diver. For all his flaws on the field, we never thought JT could be accused of being a diver. Team England or Team GB - The London 2012 Debate

4
Politics and sports seldom mix, especially when sport is seen as a tool to gain political leverage (either by those using it or those protesting against it). And when the sport is as widespread and as passionate as football, with the politics as acrimonious and divisive as those of Great Britain, mixing the two is a [. Click to continue reading...

Team GB: Would this team win the Olympics?

1
Scottish and Irish FAs have every right to pour scorn on the idea on the prospect on a Team GB squad for the Olympics; it is an unfortunate setup in sport that when we have a kickabout, we're our own independent country, but when we're scooping whatever medals are going at the Games, we have link arms and be all happy-clappy under the Great Britain banner. Happy 4th of July!

1
I'd like to wish everyone here in the States a happy, and most importantly, safe, Independence Day.

Even though Congress voted to declare independence from Great Britain on July 2, 1776, it wasn't until two days later that Thomas Jefferson's wording in the document itself was approved. It also wasn't actually signed by most delegates until August 2, but for some reason, we've chosen to commemorate American independence on the 4th of July. Click to continue reading...

GB or not GB?

Whether you knew it or not, yesterday was a notable date in the sporting calendar. Why? Because exactly five years on from July 27th 2007, the 2012 Olympic Games will begin in London.

Those of us living in London are by now aware of the plans which are well underway to build or upgrade the venues for each event, to say nothing of encouraging ordinary people to take up a sport which, five years down the line, they might even represent Great Britain in.
