Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson hopes new signing Danny Wilson is just the first of many young
players with "exceptional talent" he will be able to bring to the club.
While the focus, naturally, has been on assessing the strengths of the first team, bringing in
players of the quality of Joe Cole and working to secure the commitment of senior players, Hodgson
is well aware he has to have one eye on the future.
At long last, Liverpool have a match that means something. Buckle up.
Who: FK Rabotnički
What: Europa League Third Qualifying Round
Where: Philip II Arena, Skopje, Macedonia
When: Thursday, July 28th 20:45GMT, 2:45EST
Why: Because it's fun to play matches that are an ongoing reminder of the failures
of the 2009-2010 season.
Roy Hodgson has spoken warmly about the favourable impression made by 17-year-old Tom Ince during
the training camp in Switzerland.
A product of the Academy, Ince has found himself promoted from the U18 squad straight into training
with the first team, and he could see some action in our first pre-season game against Swiss outfit
Grasshoppers on Wednesday.

Thankfully, I'm more interested in the formation and fringe players than the actual performance or
result when watching preseason friendlies.
Following this evening's draw with Grasshoppers of Zurich, Roy Hodgson was quizzed about the future
of key Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.
Hodson revealed that:
"Christian Purslow has been talking to Fernando Torres for the last two days so I think there has
probably been lots of words from Fernando Torres but I haven't actually spoken to him,"
Its obvious to the Word and his wife that Torres is seriously concerned about his future at
Liverpool,
he saw the club have its worst season in several years last season.
UPDATE: According to Liverpool's official website, Liverpool
have sold midfielder Albert Riera to Olympiacos. Riera signed a
four-year deal with the club.
** Apologies for this update being a day late. I thought I had posted this but I must
have forgotten **
July 21st, 2010 According to Liverpool's official website,
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson admitted that midfielder
Albert Riera did not play in the past friendly against
Grasshoppers because the club is negotiating his departure with
Olympiacos.
Liverpool made a low-key start to life under Roy Hodgson, with new signing Joe Cole looking on from
the sidelines as his team-mates drew 0-0 in the friendly with Grasshoppers in Zurich.
According to the Daily Post, Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson
admitted that the club needs more quality young talent like Danny Wilson. Hodgson
said,
"In tandem with what we're doing with the first team, we've got to have our eyes and ears alert
to any young talent that could be future stars .
Yet another trip into far, foreign lands...
Neither one of these Europa League qualifying rounds has been good for Liverpool's carbon
footprint, racking up the air miles. With Grasshoppers (SUI), Utrecht (NED), AIK (SWE), FK Qarabag
(AZE) and Trabzonspor possible, Liverpool drew the Turkish opposition.
Reto Ziegler could be poised for a surprise Premier League return with Liverpool manager Rafael
Benitez seeing the Sampdoria man as a solution to his problems at left-back.
Benitez reportedly covets the former Tottenham Hotspur player's versatility since Ziegler is also
an effective attacker who can be deployed as a left winger.
Liverpool's pre-season preparations step up a gear today when the squad flies out to Switzerland
for a ten-day training camp.
Based at a resort in the Alps near to the Austrian border, the Reds' squad will combine intense
daily training sessions with a series of warm-up matches as they start to work towards the big
kick-off next month.
Liverpool has agreed a fee with Fiorentina for the sale of defender Emiliano Insua and the player
is travelling to Italy to discuss personal terms.
The Argentinian had a difficult season as injury to Fabio Aurelio meant he was first-choice
left-back for most of the campaign and that eventually took its toll on his performances.
New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson kicked off his tenure at the helm of Anfield with a tough draw in
Switzerland against Grasshoppers.
After what should have been his first game in charge against Al Hilal in mid-week was called off,
Hodgson took his place on the sidelines and saw his side battle for a well earned draw.
A couple pieces of news to go along with yesterday's opener...
Which turned out to be the prototypical preseason friendly in nearly every aspect.
Don't get me wrong, it was great to see the squad in action, and some of the younger squad
members were plenty impressive, but you'd be hard-pressed to provide anything that really knocked
you over with excitement.
Jay Spearing insists the prospect of catching Roy Hodgson's eye was a driving factor behind the
impressive performance of Liverpool's starlets in the friendly draw with Grasshoppers.
A youthful Reds side, with an average age of just 20, played out a goalless encounter with the
Swiss outfit in the new manager's first game on Wednesday following a week of intense training in
Bad Ragaz.
Liverpool FC has confirmed that they are in talks with Greek side, Olympiacos over the sale of
winger Albert Reira.
Reira played no part in Wednesday night's friendly draw with Grasshoppers as discussions has
been on-going with the Greek outfit. Riera had failed to establish himself as a first-team regular
at Anfield and was left out of Spain's winning World Cup squad, which included Liverpool teammates
Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina.

This is tomorrow's team according to one of the "in the know" posters on RAWK – one that's almost
always correct.
Liverpool will face competition from several European clubs, but have their eye on Swiss left-back
Reto Ziegler, who has just turned down a new deal with Sampdoria.
Liverpool was linked with Ziegler over the summer, but in the end Roy Hodgson brought Paul
Konchesky to Anfield. Nonetheless, should Liverpool's off-field problems be ironed out, Italian
website Tuttomercato reports that Hodgson will renew his interest in Ziegler.
... It's been the question on everyone's minds (maybe not everyone's) for a week now.
Where is Wayne Rooney going to take his talents?
Chelsea?
Manchester City?
Real Madrid?
Arabe Unido?
... and it turns out, at least for now, that the answer is .
Here is a list of the funniest football club names:Grasshoppers- How unbutch is this team? It's bad
enough their Swiss and their army knife has a cork screw on it. Now they have a football team be
named after this delicate green insect that essentials skips around to move. Top that off, they are
at the bottom of the table.
Liverpool record breaker Jack Robinson has revealed how he dreams of starring as a first-team
regular at Anfield.
The tough-tackling full-back became the Reds' youngest ever player when he appeared as a substitute
on the final day of the 2009-10 Barclays Premier League season at Hull City, aged just 16 years and
250 days.
Valentin Stocker agent Marco Balmelli has confirmed Liverpool's interest in the FC Basel
midfielder.
The versatile 21 year-old has been attracting a plethora of interest around Europe this season with
Liverpool, Wolfsburg, Roma and Juventus all reportedly keen in his services.
Roy Hodgson knows all about Swiss talent, having successfully managed the national side and a
season with Grasshoppers and it appears he has got his eyes firmly on one of Switzerland's
brightest prospects.
