The beautiful game of football was complimented recently by the stunningly beautiful work of
Zoran Lucić, who created these soccer themed posters. The posters combine images of great
footballers with interesting typography, graphic design and creative illustrations to create some
truly amazing pieces of soccer/football art.
Something to read while you spare some change for the tooth fairy... Less booing in England's
future (In the End the Germans Win) But let's not get carried away (Guardian) Landycakes to give
the Bundesliga one last try (MLS Rumors) Carragher has unkind words for Hicks & Gillett (My
Anfield) Turkish national team TV ads (Erkan's Field Diary) Football forum design [.
Does anyone out there remember Craig Johnston? If not, you probably should. Johnston was a South
African born Australian striker who played in England for both Middlesbrough and Liverpool in the
1980s. After retirement, Johnston went on to design the football boot that would become the adidas
Predator.
This is the first of what should be a recurring feature. And I'm a little disappointed that I
didn't think of it earlier, especially since I've become more and more of a stats whore over the
past year.
Okay, I'll back up. Regular readers know I was in grad school over the past year. I got my masters'

Believe it, Kickettes. You are not dreaming. Word has reached us that after Dolce & Gabbana shot
their infamous 2006 campaign with the Italian National Team some extra photoshop work had to be
done in post-production.
What kind of photoshop re-touching, you ask? Contrary to what you may assume (that the graphic
design fairies needed to bump up the shorts of someone not quite up to scratch), it's quite the
opposite.

With all the hype around the London Olympics at the moment, we thought this infographic from Golden
Riviera Casino offered a great summary of the current Olympics facts and figures. Let us know what

Nicole Barnhart (over the First Ladys right shoulder) blogged for the White House
She's the best on the U.S. WNT at crossword puzzles, bananagrams and graphic design, but Stanford

Have you always dreamed of working for a professional soccer franchise? With the rise in popularity
of professional indoor soccer and the addition of new franchises to the MISL for the upcoming
2011-2012 season you may be able to finally get your foot in the door with an internship or maybe
even a job.
Yo, if you want a free mini World Cup ball you only have a few more days to enter the logo contest.
Entries are due Friday at noon. The Timbers may have their fancy graphic design and marketing
companies to help them out, but we are proving that all you need is MS Paint or a pirated copy of
Photoshop.
Australia's A-League's newest expansion team now has a name and a logo:Â Melbourne Heart FC. The
name was the suggestion of a fan in a name-the-team contest.
The team will play at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, the brilliantly named venue we featured
here recently.
The Heart already face a challenge from the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation of Melbourne, who
are claiming the name and logo infringes their trademark rights.
While the world focuses on next year's World Cup, Poland and Ukraine are getting ready to host Euro
2012. A year ago things were looking dicey and there was talk of moving the event to an experienced
former host. But the co-hosts have responded and the Eastern European neighbors in a better
position to host the continent's showpiece tournament.
A homework assignment for any of you who are graphic design-inclined. I would really love some sort
of "Powered by Howard" logo. I think it would totally rule the world on a scarf, t-shirt or rear
window of large pickup truck next to a silhouette of Calvin peeing on a miniature Azteca while
wearing a Landon Donovan jersey.
Update: We've got fourteen writers, a host of crap names and that's it..so we're moving along
nicely!
Well what would you even call it.
It would be something to read maybe when Matty Mckay shoots wide, or when Danny Allsopp hits the
corner flag, or Danny Tiatto gives the game a rest with one of his tackles or when Kevin Muscat
starts arguing with ref, Cristiano goes for a roly poly.
WANTED: for crimes against dignity and graphic design Remember how Little Mickey Owen's people were
pimping him around to an elite band of mid-table Premier League clubs with the aid of a 32-page
glossy leaflet? Well, that very leaflet has, predictably, found its way onto the internet. You can
view the whole brochure here and we will [.
