DCUMD 03 July @ 10:12 AM EST
This is our second of four posts in review of the moves DC United has made since the end of last
season. Last week we looked at their acquisitions, today we'll look at the players who departed,
and then later we'll look at their trades.
1. It's hard to imagine how different DC United's season would be had they retained Marcelo
Gallardo in 2009.

Considering the warnings the meteorological high priests were spreading, the "big storm"
turned out to be a couple inches of snow. Disappointing, like much of this weekend. Why
disappointing? Glad you asked . . . Camp Curse Continues! Last week, I talked about the disturbing
number of players being injured at the US training camp that's trying to prepare for the annual
Scandanavian Scrub

It's been a relatively quiet week for Argentines in Europe, with most of those who represented the
selección during the week still recuperating from their journey home. In the wake of Alfio
Basile's resignation as Argentina boss though, this weekend was a chance for certain other hopefuls
to prove to the next man that they [.

Our season has come down to this: cheering for Chicago and New England. Makes you wonder what
you're doing with your life, doesn't it? Now, as I've stated before in posts and in comments, I'm
of two minds on what I'd prefer to occur this week. Do we, A) eek into the playoffs, lose [...]

LET'S ENUMERATE THE SUCK: The news of Perralta and Gallardo needing to go out for hernia surgery
does suck, as that injury seems to plague this team somehow. The news that Carvallo has been
released moderately sucks, in that it indicates our lack of depth not just in defense but in the
keeper position as well.

After being evaluated today in Germany, it has been decided that both Marcelo Gallardo and
Gonzalo Peralta will need surgery for sports hernias. Gallardo will have bilateral sports hernia
surgery, which will require him to go under the knife both tomorrow and Saturday, while Peralta
only needs work done on the left side which will be completed tomorrow.

Oh dear. So we're looking at Peralta and Gallardo being ready for action by August 7th, at the
earliest, and they'll probably need a couple of weeks to get back into something resembling game
shape. Given Gallardo's injury history, I'd budget at least another week or two on top of that for
him. I seem to remember the last time we trotted down this particular herniated road, it was Namoff

Wooo. After a whole 3 days without a game, DC United is back in action in RFK against Chivas de
Guadalajara. Let me say this, as an avid follower of the USMNT, having seen quite a few US v Mexico
tussles, I can say that I'm not a big fan of Mexican football [...]

Well, that was an uncomfortable temperature for a truly entertaining game. But, that's what you get
when ABC wants the game at 12. I just hope the ratings were worth having the game played on the
surface of the sun. Where to begin? Oh, I know. Greater than the win, or the [...]

Congratulations to Gonzalo Peralta and his wife, Leticia. After being in labor for nearly 29
hours, Mateo Peralta was born at 3:18 p.m. on Friday, May 30, wighing in at 7.5 lbs. The family has
returned home from the hospital and is healthy and happy. Gonzalo returned to training today and
the proud papa will be available for selection in Wednesday night's game with the Houston
Dynamo.

D.C. United 1 : 2 Columbus Crew
Six Word Novel Recap
Never understood why Goldilocks preferred lukewarm.
Media, Traditional and OtherwiseThe Washington Times, John Haydon: "Even with the strongest
lineup coach Tom Soehn could use, D.C. United fell short last night at RFK Stadium. United lost 2-1

Well, I didn't go to this game, and I'm glad about it. I watched it once I got home, and I've made
some observations. - Gallardo is good. Very good. He brings an element that isn't often seen in
MLS, and thats the ability to move around with the ball at your feet [...]

I think that sums it up nicely. The general mood of optimism going into the CONCACAF Champions Cup
semifinals renders the funk looming over the second leg all the more blue. I'll be surprised - and,
for the record, damned happy - if either DC United or the Houston Dynamo make the final. It'd [...]

Ignore the headline: this wasn't that bad a loss. Well, it was and it wasn't. DC United held up
pretty well for 70+ minutes and in a tough venue against a savvy team. Moreover, the goal scored by
Luis Montes, which undid DC's worthy fight for a result, was equal parts smart [...]

"The game is opening up. Harbour is getting their chances." I wrote that into my notes sometime
in the late 50's, thinking it spelled the beginning of a period when Jamaica's Harbour View FC
(HVFC) would threaten DC United's lead and survival in the CONCACAF Champions Cup (CCC)
quarterfinal. Instead, not much more than 10 minutes [.

On November 1st, 2007, Untied, and its black and red clad supporters closed the book on what was
another very successful season, in bitter fashion. United was once again ousted from the MLS Cup
Playoffs, by a long time rival they still have yet to beat in post season play, the Chicago Fire.
As the days wore on in the following weeks, the pain and disappointment of that bitter end to the
07 season began to subside, and our thoughts began to turn towards the 2008 season.

The South American Invasion is on in DC! The Goffinator has the scoop as usual (Part 1 | Part 2),
so I won't bore you with the same details you'll find (or, more likely, have already found) on the

Peralta, Carvallo - all five already listed as United players, you'll note).

MLS Rumors 25 January @ 10:35 AM EST
Rating: 5 (Very good)
DC United is operating under the theory that two Gonzalos are better than one.
Argentine publication Clarin in its Olé section reports that Argentine defender Gonzalo Peralta is
on his way to DC. Peralta comes to DC United from Argentine 2nd division side Club Atlético Brown
and should be officially announced early next week at the latest.
