Stade de Gerland, Lyon
3:00 EST (21:00CET, 20:00GMT)
Sunday evening it's back to work. But hopefully, it's not one of those usual Monday morning,
sloping, sluggish, I need a liter of coffee to get through the day, back to works, because aside
from the heart wrenching matches against Cesspool in the CL, Lyon have been afflicted with a
general malaise probably since week eight in the PSG match, and need this victory to put some pep
back in their step.

France's do-or-die match against Ireland is just around the corner, with the first match taking
place on November 14th in Ireland and the second taking place on the 18th at the Stade de France
(boo...). I don't know about you guys, but I'll be praying extra hard that France don't screw up
against a tough Irish team.

It's about time we shone our Jeu du Jour spotlight on Auxerre as we look back on Week 11. The only
team never to be relegated from France's top flight started off this season as though that might
all change, but after a defeat in each of their first three games, they now find themselves
unbeaten in eight and up to fifth in the table.

Now its not all doom and gloom and many will have you believe that we are sinking further into
the abyss but that would be a harsh assessment of the tough 90 minute assignment that so nearly
bore fruit.

Anfield Talk 05 November @ 02:17 AM EST
Liverpool's hearts were broken by a cruel last-minute equaliser that has all but ended their
Champions League dreams for a traumatic season.
The much-maligned Ryan Babel had scored a wonderful goal with just seven minutes left and if
Liverpool could have hung on to that lead they would still have had a realistic chance of reaching
the last 16.

If English giants and 2005 winners Liverpool lose to Lyon in France on Wednesday night their
Champions League dreams could be all but over. Should Fiorentina beat Hungarian outfit Debrecen
(a very likely occurrence) Liverpool will be six points adrift with just two games left.
It makes for grim reading for the Anfield faithful, with their Premier League title hopes in
tatters the Champions League represents a great chance for them to pick up some silverware and an
exit in the group stages is virtually unthinkable.

(La sequenza fotografica del malore di Gomis)
Tanto spavento. Ma per fortuna solamente quello. Sospiri di sollievo per tutti quanti hanno
assistito alla vicenda. Didier Gomis (talentuoso giocatore in forza al Lione) si è sentito male
durante l'allenamento della Francia ed è caduto a terra.

Things aren't going so hot for the French national team right now. They're only sitting second
in their World Cup Qualifying group, coming off a pair of 1-1 draws, everyone hates their manager,
and now, ahead of a cupcake match against Faroe Islands (a side they only beat 1-0 last time),
their players are losing consciousness during training.

(51').

Lyon will seek to add to their 1-0 win at Fiorentina when they head to Hungary to play last
year's champions, Debrecen.
Lyon will be missing key players Lisandro Lopez and Michel Bastos but despite this Lyon manager
Claude Puel believes his team is strong even without those players.
"The squad has a real strength and team spirit.

There were several interesting matches in the top European leagues on Saturday and a few upsets.
In the Italian Serie A, Sampdoria was able to defeat Inter Milan (Internazionale). In Germany,
Hamburg beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Bundesliga and Lyon lost at home to Toulouse in the French
Ligue 1. Here's a recap of all these matches along with video highlights.

The match-up most of us have been waiting for is here and highlights the second day of Matchday
One in the UEFA Champions League.
FC Barcelona, the reigning champions, take on Inter Milan, in a match-up chock full of sub-plots
and juicy match-ups. Samuel Eto'o looks to show Barcelona that it made a mistake by letting him go
while Zlatan Ibrahimovic faces former Inter teammates who aren't too thrilled with him taking all
the credit for the three Serie A titles they win with him at striker.

I don't know about you guys, but I've used this international break to take a step away from
football before things get all crazy again. With our first CL group stage match against Fiorentina
around the corner, the next couple of weeks promise to be really busy. But before we can even think
about Europe, we have to take care of Lorient tomorrow.

Abou Diaby: Serbia attack's most dangerous weapon?
This upcoming weekend will be filled with World Qualifiers up until Tuesday so I will not
comment much on Le Championnat from last weekend that saw a very disappointing 0 – 0 between
Marseille and Bordeaux, a very convincing 3 - 0 win by PSG against Lille, St Etienne's first 3
points versus a sad Grenoble and more Lyon magic thanks to Lisandro Lopez (ARG), Gomis (FRA)
and Bastos (BRA).

The 4th matchday of France highest level of club football featured a matchup of the top two teams
from last season. Last season's runner-up Olympique Marseille hosted champions Girondins Bordeaux.
It was a back and forth affair that ended up in a 0-0 draw at Marseille's Stade Velodrome. Both
sides remained unbeaten on the season as Bordeaux stayed on top of the standings.

Lyon are probably the trickiest team we'll face. For the first time in 8 years, they didn't win
their league last season, but they still have some dangerous players (Bastos, Lisandro, Gomis, and
Lopez).
Fiorentina may have been lucky to qualify, but they're a disciplined side with a couple of
dangerous strikers (Mutu and Gilardino).

Group E awaits. Not the easiest group (Groups G or H), but it's not Groups A, C, or F either.
Neither Lyon nor Fiorentina will be easy matches, but they'll be interesting pairings against
prestigious teams, while Debrecen's a completely unknown quantity.

There is a surprise leader early in the 09-10 French Ligue 1 season. AS Nancy has been on fire

Sometimes getting rid of your best player makes you better and other times it does not. But for
Lyon getting rid of striker Karim Benzema might have been the best thing that they could have done.
During the summer the super talented striker traded Lyon for Real Mardrid. The transfer fee was
priced at €35 million with the fee rising to as much as €41 million based on incentives.

Some fairly entertaining games last week that delivered some 30 goals and saw Lyon, Bordeaux and
Marseille calmly climb to the top of the table.
The self proclaimed black panther Bentafemi Gomis gave Lyon a short victory last weekend
but the midweek 5 – 1 thrashing of Anderlecht in the Champions League qualifier looked quite
impressive, with stellar performances from Lisandro Lopez (ARG), Michel Bastos (BRA) and
Miralem Pjanic (BOS).

With Lyon finally knocked off their lofty perch by Laurent Blanc's fantastically well drilled
Bordeaux side last season, there is a feeling that this season's Ligue Un title race might just be
the most open in years.
With Claude Puel's side looking to regain the crown they had held in a vice-like grip for seven
seasons in a row, Blanc's men will have their work cut out to retain their title, and with
traditional powerhouses Marseille & Paris Saint-Germain looking to continue the excellent progress
made last season under new coaches Didier Deschamps & Antoine Kombouaré respectively, not to
mention the impressive underdogs of Lille & Toulouse lurking, French football has lot going for it
at the moment.

Bordeaux took advantage of Lyon's problems last season and they managed to pip
Marseille to the Ligue 1 title. That was a big success for Les Girondins led by
Laurent Blanc from the bench and Yoann Gourcuff from the pitch. These two were the
reasons behind team's success, although they had big help from Gourcuff's teammates.

let's talk about how Lyon's mercato is going.
