One team is in desperate need of some offensive help while the other team might just be raising the white flag.

That's one way to look at the Colorado Rapids trading of forward Herculez Gomez to Kansas City for allocation money and draft picks (4th rounder and 1st round supplemental in '09).

New Boy Gomez Looks Famous

Not only does newly acquired forward Herculez Gomez have some pretty good soccer credentials, his looks give him a little street cred. Check out these two pics below and tell me that's not the same guy. Well, it's actually not. First up is Hollywood star John Leguzamo. Next is our newest attacker, Herculez. Manchester City are not after Dimi, Berbatov could stay at Tottenham or go to Manchester United

2
Manchester City's last-second shopping list: Berbatov, Gomez, Villa, Ashton, Podolski...did I miss anyone? This is stark. raving. mad. A club up the creek without a paddle where finances are concerned, the owner sells the club on the weekend and with less than 10 hours to go to the transfer window, the board are off looking to [. Pablo Likely to Stay a Rapid Until New Year

1
So, I did manage to get up to training today but I am probably not able to add too many insights into who will start tomorrow for the Colorado Rapids against RSL. That was because I got involved in a good conversation with club captain, Pablo Mastroeni. By the time we finished talking, the boys were off in the bus to take them to the airport for tomorrow night's game. Click to continue reading...

Conrad up for Goal of the Week

2
Captain Kansas City now has five goals on the year. Not bad. His latest effort, our last-minute equalizer Saturday against FC Dallas has been nominated for Sierra Mist Goal of the Week. Come on Wizards fans...go vote and get Jimmy on the end-of-the-year ballot!

Take a look at the goal here, if you don't remember it:

He is now our leading scorer with a new career-high. Click to continue reading...

Rapids' Relief as Team Finally Tastes Victory

3
Acting head coach Gary Smith punched the air as the referee blew for the 90 minutes. It sure was mighty relief for the Colorado Rapids organization and their fans that the team finally managed to score some goals and eke out a win against a frequently dangerous Kansas City side. Should I Stay Or Should I Go

3
This indecisions bugging me
If you dont want me, set me free
Come on and let me know
Should I cool it or should I blow?
Should I stay or should I go now?

Aaaahhh the good ole Clash, you've gotta love them and never were more those words more appropriate then when looking at the many indecision regarding so many players across Europe. Click to continue reading...

Head for the Rockies

0
The Wizards head west down I-70 to Denver to take on the Colorado Rapids tomorrow night. The Wizards come in after holding off Chivas USA 3-2 at home last Saturday, while Colorado comes in having lost 1-0 at home against Toronto FC. Colorado's fans' spirits are low with the way that the team has been planning and that Coach Clavijo is still in charge of the team after their poor performance of late. Click to continue reading...

Fernando Clavijo's coaching peers

Goff reported that he was given the vote of confidence for the rest of the season yesterday, though now it's edited to quote a Rapids official saying that actually didn't happen. I'm not surprised that there's no move to fire him. If they didn't do it after last year, why do it now? His contract is up after this season, and hopefully then the Rapids will make a better decision. Click to continue reading...

INCOMING: Gabriel Badilla to New England?

3
The rich get richer. That's they way it might appear if this deal comes to fruition. Reports out of Costa Rica and Colombia seem to indicate that the Costa Rica national team defender has played his last game for Deportivo Saprissa and is headed north to join the Revs.

We also received this in our inbox:
Our Revolution blog has uncovered stories in the Central American press which state that 23 year old Costa Rican defender Gabriel Badilla is close to signing a 2 year deal with MLS.

Rapids Sinking Further

2
The Colorado Rapids woes continued as they lost Toronto FC at Dicks Sporting Goods Park. Toronto hadn't won a game in 2 months. The Rapids had only won once in their last 10. But Toronto was missing players (Amando Guevara, Laurent Robert, Marco Velez, Carmelo Lobo) forcing them to start some reserves. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Still Give It Up Too Easily

2
I don't want to make too much of a glorified friendly like the game the Rapids had against Everton last Sunday evening. Glorified scrimmage? Yes, that is what the "international exhibition" is in terms of the game. Everton was working to get match fit and look at some players. For example, Everton manager David Moyes was using highly touted 17-year old Jack Rodwell as a midfielder. Click to continue reading...

Keeping Appropriate Distance and Creating Appropraite Value

In the course of being engrossed by the game to game mentality and analysis, it is easy for me to lose perspective of an entire season. At times like this, it is useful to look back on previous posts to remind myself of what I was thinking earlier, and to reapply that perspective to where we are now.

Let’s all start watching Colorado, really

1
I completely forgot about this but thankfully Fullback Files has reminded me that DC United fans have a whole sideshow to follow this season, cheering for Colorado to stink as much as possible in order for the draft pick received for Gomez to be as high as possible. For that degree of suckitude to take [. Click to continue reading...

The Case for Colorado Keeping Clavijo

You know, beyond the alliterative explosion of the headline and the tasty schadenfreude, there is one further reason that United fans should take interest in the fortunes of the hapless Rapids. United fans? Interested in the Rapids? Why, you ask? Well, oft-forgotten amidst the Argentine playmaker transfusion that saw United bid adieu to Christian Gomez and welcome Marcelo Gallardo, were the Click to continue reading...

Mid-Season Review part 3: Trades

1
In the third installment of our MSR series, we discuss the trades that United has made since the end of last season. Besides the Gomez move, there were two other fairly significant trades for the team, and I think I actually come out opposed to the popular opinion on both of them. Maybe this can generate an argument or two in the comments? Click to continue reading...

Mid-Season Review part 1: Acquisitions

0
Given the focus that this blog has given to United's roster this year, I thought it would be appropriate to base our Mid-Season Review specifically on the roster moves that the team has made. In part 1, we will look at United's acquisitions, meaning the players that the team added since the end of last season that they didn't have to give up anything for. Click to continue reading...

Becks leads MLS all stars to win over West Ham

Dean Ashton scored first for the West Ham. Gomez neutralised that advantage even as the goal celebrations were going on. Blanco gave the All-Stars the lead a minute before half-time and West Ham levelled through a deflected shot from Ashton' The All-Stars took the game when De Rosario converted a penalty into a goal that careened in off the cross bar.
