Dion Bubblin' and Phil Bubb Apart from the possible introduction of video technology we all agree
that football is pretty much best left alone. It is a beautiful game because it is beautifully
simple, and all of the gimmicks merely threaten to get in the way of what makes the game so
special. Or so [.

From the same folks (Norwegian TV show Golden Goal) that bought the world Electroshock
Football comes 'Bubble Football', in which professional sides Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad
square off inside huge plastic bubbles with as much physical contact as possible encouraged.
David Trezeguet (front) in training for new club River Plate
Argentinian giants River Plate, who are currently playing in their country's second division
following last season's shock relegation, have showed their ambition to get back into the top
flight by signing former France international David Trezeguet.

Overtime was needed in both of Sunday's quarterfinals as unseeded Charlotte shocked No. 3 UConn
and No. 2 Creighton overcame a hearty challenge from No. 7 South Florida.
Charlotte came from behind late in the game to knot the score at 1-1 and force a penalty kick
shootout against the Huskies before advancing courtesy of a 4-2 victory.
Minnesota's Eric Miller and Brent Kallman will be making a trip the NCAA Men's D1 College Cup next
weekend. The Bluejays shutout their opponent for the 18th time this season with a 1-0 overtime win
over South Florida Sunday afternoon at Morrison Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. The golden goal game in

There will be no repeat for Caleb Porter and the Akron Zips.
The defending champions were unceremoniously dumped out at the hands of unseeded Charlotte with
a 1-0 defeat Sunday night. A first-half goal from A-10 rookie of the year Giuseppe Gentile proved
to be the difference as Charlotte handed Akron its first regulation loss in NCAA play since
2008.
Going into OT! Golden goal.

When Boston College was announced as the fourth seed in this year's NCAA Tournament, more than a
few people raised their eyebrows in surprise. On Sunday, the rest of the college soccer world found
out why.
The Eagles were shocked at home by unseeded Rutgers with a penalty kick shootout loss, dumping
Boston College out in their first game of the tournament.

One round down in the NCAA Tournament and most of the heavy hitters relegated to the first round
are still alive, with one notable exception.
2009 champions Virginia were shocked 1-0 at home by Colonial Athletic Champions Delaware in an
overtime upset.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Brian Span (So., Somers, N.Y.) scored the golden goal with
20 seconds remaining in double overtime to propel the fourth-seeded Virginia men's soccer team to a
4-3 victory over fifth-seeded Wake Forest Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the 2011 ACC
Tournament at Klöckner Stadium.
If Tuesday's quarterfinals were any indication of how the rest of the ACC Tournament is going to
play out, we are in for one wild tournament.
Defending champion Maryland saw its title defend end after one match as Boston College jumped
out to an early two-goal lead before holding off a fierce comeback to post a 2-1 upset victory on
Tuesday night.

Former New England Revolution midfielder and University of Rhode Island product Winston
Griffiths passed away Sunday night at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Jamaica after
reportedly being found in poor condition by friends on the side of the road on Saturday. He was 33
years old.
Griffiths' short stint on the Revolution is most memorable for his near miss in the 2002 MLS Cup
Final against the Lost Angeles Galaxy.
Watching Dwayne DeRosario show tremendous heart and incredible ability in trying to will D.C.
United to a victory on Wednesday night against Portland, soomething came to mind that I had thought
about a few times before. Something about DeRosario that is probably widely-accepted as fact, but
never really discussed.
Cross defending national champion Akron off of the list of unbeaten teams in college soccer.
Luis Silva's golden goal not even a minute into overtime gave No. 15 UC Santa Barbara (Fox
Soccer/SBI) a riveting 3-2 win over No. 5 Akron and handed the Gauchos a landmark victory Wednesday
night.
Make that eight straight games without conceding a goal for the No. 1-ranked (Fox Soccer/SBI)
Connecticut men's soccer team.
Carlos Alvarez scored in the fifth minute, and UConn's defense posted its eighth straight clean
sheet to lift the Huskies to a 3-0 victory over Manhattan Tuesday night.

It was almost the perfect redemption to an unaccomplished season for the Chicago Fire. Winning
the U.S. Open Cup for the fifth time in club history would have overshadowed all of the losses,
unnecessary draws, and most importantly, potentially missing out on the playoffs.

The top-ranked Connecticut Huskies added another impressive win in their perfect start with a
thrilling 1-0 double overtime victory against No. 8 Louisville.
Junior captain Stephane Diop pounced on a rebound created by Carlos Alvarez's shot and rocketed
a shot home from the left side of the penalty box 1:02 into the second overtime.
I won't even ask if you remember Disaster South Korea in 2002. The ref, Byron Moreno, made
ridiculous calls like gifting South Korea a penalty early on. Or Totti "diving" in the penalty area
in extra time that saw him receive a second yellow instead of a penalty. Or Damiano Tomassi's
golden goal that was "offside" (but not really, according to everyone else in the universe.
Interesting YouTube video showing all the tears and sad memories for the English team fans since
the 1966 victory. It shows the critical moments of England last game, mondial after the other,
What was their best team since 1966? Not sure, could be the 1982 WC when they didn't lose a single
game, and managed to beat (the wonderful) France 3-1, or the 1990 WC when they were very very close
to qualifying to the final vs.

Battling the rain and a determined opponent, the University of Denver finally found a winner
against the University of Northern Colorado in the second period of extra time in the second game
of the inaugural Colorado Cup late Friday.
DU prevailed in the opener for both teams at the Pioneers' CIBER Field when Nicholette
DiGiacomo's flick was punched into the back of the net by Kristen Hamilton in the 109th minute.
This is the eleventh and penultimate post in a weekly series highlighting Italy's 4 World Cup
wins from qualifications to the finals.
The knockout stages would feature a big change at this World Cup - the loss of the "Golden Goal."
Instead, if the game was tied at the end of regulation, the teams would play two 15 minute overtime
periods, regardless of any goals.
I'll be taking in Livestrong Sporting Park on Tuesday for the US Open Cup match between Sporting

Well, not exactly a 'golden goal' but it is a helluva goal & it put Mexico in the semi final of
the CONCACAF Gold Cup. So, that sounds like a golden goal to me. And who other than
Chicharito could be the goalscorer with a sneaky back-heel, golaso!! Way to go mr.

Imagine one of the key stone players for a club becoming its General Manager. He would be a
decent to good player in the League, and acquire talent that many others would not recognize over a
decade after his retirement. Then while the Chicago Fire are in a deep funk with only 4 points in
last five and win-less since match day two, he fires the head coach and takes over the coaching
reigns?

With this latest health concern coming towards the end of a season that had already been trying at

There hasn't been too many so far this year, did you notice? It's only happened five times in 86

I continue posting some of historical goals in previous Asian Cups. I decided that I will write
about the games after I see few games. Usually, Asian Cups are difficult to predict. Not all teams
take it with same seriousness. In general, I think it should go to the FarEast or Australia.
Anyhow, from the memory of great goals, I start with the last goal scored in 1984 Asian Cup, by the
Saudi legendary player, Majed Abdullah.
Without changing a thing, the face of the World Cup has already changed greatly for the near
future. The award of Brazil is about as traditional as it can get, but Qatar in 2022 will see the
first World Cup in the Middle East, in an Arab nation. So that's a large change.
The rumblings of a potential winter World Cup would give it an odd feel.
