Now that the January transfer window is closed, clubs are gearing up to be ready for the rest of

On this side of the Atlantic, the football news that received quite a bit of attention over past

So I thought it would be worth taking a look at which teams have been doing better than their
opponents. The simplest way of doing just that is to calculate differentials for the stuff that
matters most - goals - and the stuff without which - shots - the stuff that matters most usually
doesn't happen.
When Manchester City dispatched Manchester United in commanding fashion earlier this season, the
City steamroller was powerful, efficient, and impressive. It looked downright unstoppable. As Kevin
McCarra noted the day of City's 6-1 trouncing of United in

As we enter the 2012 season, there are many questions surrounding the Union, but one of the
biggest is what to make of our young striker, Danny Mwanga.
After a fantastic rookie year, Mwanga seemed to regress in 2011. He started fewer games and
scored fewer goals than he did his rookie year, and his appearances were inconsistent: during some
games he looked like an absolute world-beater, while more often he was anonymous.
Wallowing in the glory of Henry's movie-moment comeback was not meant to last all week, but for
me it has. The YouTube video I breathlessly uploaded at about midnight on Monday has now had about
37,000 hits (and Analytics tell me 90.6% of those who watched it were male, with 9.7% female how do
they know this I wonder – though my brother did confidently predict that he had watched it "about
28,000 times" so maybe there's some truth in that).

Sadness as Gary Ablett dies aged 46
