Good Saturday to you all. Here is the news.
It looks like Manuel Almunia is back in pole position. Or, he would be if Arsenal was a Forumula
1 team and he'd just come fastest in qualifying, but you know what I mean. A mixture of a chest
infection, family tragedy and just plain old poor form meant his start to the season was a bit all
over the shop, but it seems as if the manager is ready to put his faith in him again.

by CARL ELDRIDGE Manuel Almunia has been told by Arsene Wenger that he will remain Arsenal's No
1 goalkeeper.
But the Daily Mail reports that while the Spaniard prepares to face Wolves today he may be
interested in the rave review Wenger has given fellow Frenchman Hugo Lloris, the 22-year-old Lyon
keeper who starred in the Champions League midweek frustration of Liverpool.

So sorry everyone on the latest of the preview this week. Have just been a little busy, but here it
is anyway. A shortened version this week so we can just get right to the juicy stuff. All games are
today, so a very short-sharp round with (hopefully) lots of action.

So, one point from a game where it won't really do much to help us. In reality though, we could
have come away with all three points had we managed to score one more of our chances, or had Saja
not made a terrible mistake that the goalkeeper on my own amateur team would likely avoid.
Well, AEKBaltimore will watch the match on TV soon, since I believe he recorded it, and I'm not
sure if AEKMAN74 watched as well.

Tomasz Kuszczak (left) is a reserve goalkeeper for Manchester United.
Recently he made all the headlines for calling the Old Trafford No. 1 'keeper Edwin van der Sar
(right) selfish, damn selfish. It's creating a bit of a controversy in England, and I'm pretty sure
it's because Kuszczak needed to try to find a way to become relevant.

A follow up to last weeks advert from a few years later, the Honey Monster now finds himself a
reserve goalkeeper for Manchester United in a European fixture...
I'm pretty sure Peter Schmeichel should have been sent off for the foul, instead good ol' Honey
Monster gets subbed on and pulls off a blinder of a save Rene Higuita-esque.

With much of the qualification process almost complete and South Africa 2010 looming large, it
would make sense to assess some of the world's best custodians who will be present during the World
Cup. Goalkeepers such as Petr Cech will be excluded from the discussion since their nation failed
to qualify for next summer's big event.

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina has branded Liverpool's Champions League performances this season
'disgraceful'.
The Spain international was left fuming after conceding a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw in Lyon on

No wonder Sir Alex Ferguson admires him so much. Igor Akinfeev may have conceded three goals
though none of them was his fault but he had pulled off a number of world-class saves which had
frustrated Manchester United.
He is only 23, but he has been first choice 'keeper at CSKA Moscow for six years now, and was
just 17 when he broke into the Russian side making him the youngest ever.

Arsenal verses Alkmaar 2009: this was not a beery, blood and guts affair of Tottenham in the
League or a high energy, alcoho pop fuelled Carling Cup encounter with Liverpool, this Champions
League game was a fine red wine for the football connoisseur.
An excellent selection by Wenger: a blend of player that complemented each with the depth of
Gallas and Vermaelen and the much anticipated combination of Fabregas, Arshavin and Nasri.

I think headaches should be outlawed on Wednesdays. I mean, you are as far removed from the most
recent weekend as you are from getting to the next one. That's enough misery. A headache on

Readers of this blog didn't agree, but Chivas USA's Zach Thornton was named MLS Goalkeeper of
the Year today, 11 years after first taking the honor with the Chicago Fire.
That time span between awards was undoubtedly one of the reasons the 34-year-old took the honor,
beating out the Galaxy's Donovan Ricketts and Seattle Sounders veteran Kasey Keller (both in their
first MLS seasons).
