In the second preseason game of the season, KC once again took care of business, this time against
their First Kick opponent DC United. What would be assumed to be the first team started the game
again for Kansas City. It was the same lineup as KC put out against San Jose last weekend, with one
exception.
Manchester United reserves couldn't manage victory against Manchester City's 'elite development
squad' despite this generous gift from their neighbours. City goalkeeper Eirik Johansen found
himself in a nasty tangle with defender Reece Wabara, presenting United's Jesse Lingard with the
simplest of finishes.
This season has seen the emergence of Wojciech Szczesny as the undisputed no.1 at Arsenal, and for
the first time since the departure of the Invincibe Jens Lehmann, we have a world-class keeper in
our squad. But do we have a decent enough deputy to the young shot-stopper? The answer is quite
simply a big [.
The Milwaukee Wave's league-leading attack sputtered after a strong start Friday night, but that
didn't stop the Wave from clinching the Major Indoor Soccer League Central Division title.
Marco Terminesi had a hand in all three goals, setting up the first two and scoring the
third, and goalkeeper Nick Vorberg allowed just one late goal on a deflected shot as the
Wave held off the Wichita Wings 6-3 in front of 3,241 fans at U.

After last week's tumultuous events concerning the departures of Sebastien Le Toux and Faryd
Mondragon from the Philadelphia Union, and the cancellation of the WPS season, this week's
installment of the Philly Soccer Show podcast slows down the pace with a look at the Union as they
begin training camp in Orlando.

Man City's official YouTube channel has provided a lot of unexpected entertainment over its
relatively short existence and has already become a model for other clubs to follow. It does,
however, go off the rails from time to time (City kitman Les Chapman's "nature watch" segment where
he tracks down a ginger kid in his underpants).

The Goalkeeper has a transcript of Wednesday's press conference with Peter Nowak. Among the
highlights:
On Pajoy: "He's a guy who brings not only character but also a
mentality to the game. He's very physical, and very fast as well. He can change the game, because
he's a different option.

CARSON, Calif. – The Colorado Rapids squeaked past Chivas USA, 1-0, in a physical preseason
scrimmage between the two sides on Tuesday.
Second-half substitute Quincy Amarikwa put the Rapids ahead in the 85th minute.
Arsenal smashed Blackburn Rovers on the weekend. Scoring several goals, dominating the match and
appearing genuinely impressive for the first time in a long time Arsenal looked like Arsenal used
to look like. In the eyes of Arsenal fans Arsenal played like Arsenal should always be playing. In
the eyes of neutrals Arsenal got their old swagger back.
John Terry has been England captain three times. He has been stripped of the captaincy three
times. Rio Ferdinand has been England captain once. He does not want the England captaincy again.
Steven Gerrard has been overlooked for the England captaincy several times. He is no longer a
guaranteed starter in the side.

Goalkeeper Doug Herrick is no longer training with the club.
I just got confirmation that Timbers Supplemental Draft pick Doug Herrick is no longer training
with the team. It seemed likely given that he was left off of the preseason roster, but this
confirmation makes Joe Bendick the likely candidate to be the Timbers 3rd string keeper behind Troy
Perkins and Jake Gleeson.
Since national signing day was a week or so ago, I've gotten a few emails from people asking about
where certain Juniors players were heading for college. Instead of directing people to 5 different
places, I figured I'd post a list of players that have signed or at least have verbally committed.
So with all apologies to Alex and his former Juniors update, here's some commitments for you.
Inigo Lopez grabbed a late winner for Granada to give their La Liga survival hopes a big boost
as they beat local rivals Malaga on Monday.
Malaga had the better early exchanges as the game started at a fast and furious pace with first
Enzo Maresca then Rondon shooting high and wide from good positions in the opening minutes.
By Clemente Lisi – NEW YORK, NY (Feb 7, 2012) US Soccer Players -- The MetroStars/Red Bulls are
the most futile Major League Soccer club since the League's inception in 1996. There is little
argument to the contrary. Nevertheless, the franchise has had a staggering track record when it
comes to producing talented players who have gone on to succeed at other clubs and the US National
Team.
In the poll we've been running since late November, Tim Krul is the most improved player at the

While it wasn't exactly backs to the wall for 90 minutes as some media reports are suggesting,
Tottenham had to show a great deal of resilience to come away with a draw from yesterday's
encounter at Anfield.
After the game, Assistant Manager Kevin Bond hailed a ‘different type of performance' as Spurs
took a valuable point from the match.

David de Gea put in another good shift against one of the top teams in Manchester United's 3-3
draw with Chelsea.
The Spanish keeper's every move is heavily scrutinised by the press but he has been rightly
praised for his brilliant save from a Juan Mata freekick which saved a point for United in the
dying moments.

Dangerously cold weather and unplayable pitch conditions wreaked havoc on Ligue 1 action this

Norwich City 2-0 Bolton Wanderers Premier League 4th February 2012
An injury-ravaged Norwich fought their away to their fifth home league win of the season on
Saturday, a victory which condemned the visiting Trotters to another spell in the relegation
zone.
A goal from Sergio Ramos was enough to gave Real Madrid a slender 1-0 win against city rivals
Getafe to maintain their seven-point lead over title rivals Barcelona at the top of the Spanish
Liga.
The visitors dominated possession but created few clear-cut opportunities and the match was
eventually settled by Ramos's 18th-minute goal, the Spanish international defender meeting Mesut
Özil's corner with a flying header that powered into the top right coner.
In this week's Philly Soccer Show podcast, your co-hosts KYW's Greg Orlandini and PSP's Eli

Has a manager in Australia, in Sydney, ever been given such an easy ride.

Barnsley goalkeeper David Preece says it's the media keeping gay footballers in the closet.
In the preview I wrote, "there will be goals in this game for sure". I don't know how, but both
sides managed to keep the ball out of their opponents' nets when scoring would have seemed like the
easier option. Arsenal had a lot of chances, very good ones. And they missed them all.
Twitter went mad after the game, as it usually does after a disappointing result I guess.
Perhaps the Premier League might like to take a swift glance at the televised match between Wigan
and Spurs on January 11th 2009.
With the score at 0-0 shortly after half-time, Heurelho Gomes strained his hamstring taking a
goalkick and made it quite clear that his movement was severely restricted and that he wished to be
substituted.
It was a quite transfer window for Liverpool by last season's standards, with Wrexham's teenage
goalkeeper Danny Ward the only notable arrival. However, since the window was introduced 10 seasons
ago, the Reds have made some excellent signings in what is usually a frenzied period littered with
hit-or-miss transfers.

As the New York Red Bulls opened their preseason camp two weeks ago, coach Hans Backe surveyed
the landscape of his young goalkeeping ranks and assessed the need for an established veteran to
take a leadership role.
Despite being heavily rumored to be grasping that role, Venezuelan netminder Renny Vega will not
be the one manning the posts at Red Bull Arena this season.
A violent riot erupted following a match between Egyptian rivals Al-Masry and Al-Ahly, leaving
dozens of people dead and hundreds of others injured.
According to various reports, the still-escalating death count from the incident in Port Said,
Egypt, stands at 73, while Egyptian outlets are reporting that the country's health ministry has
said that more than 1,000 are hurt.

There are a lot of quotes from Sebastien Le Toux in this article. Many of them come from
Chris Vito's (of the Delco Daily Times and The Times Herald) fantastic interview with Seba. Check
it out. Many quotes from Peter Nowak are from his January 31 press conference.
On Tuesday, Atlanta native and former University of South Carolina goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer signed
with Chilean Primera club Universidad de Concepcion.
Philadelphia Union fans have been dealt heavy blows of late. Their veteran goalkeeper was sent away
and within days, the face of their franchise was traded away and not to the glamour of the English
Premier League. Rather, Sebastien Le Toux is finding his way up north, to Vancouver.
Officially, Le Toux was let go for allocation money.
