Your "Signs of the Footie New Media Apocalypse" Update

The Offside Rules 03 November @ 03:00 PM EST
If you follow this blog with any regularity you know that unlike most soccer blogs, English people who are not under the employ of the LA Galaxy are a sighting as rare as goals by goalies. But when someone like Sunderland's Darren Bent decides get custom boots branded with his Twitter handle and Twitter logo it's kind of special. Click to continue reading...

“United Players Were S**t Scared Of Keano”

Republik Of Mancunia 27 October @ 07:28 AM EST

Andy Goram came to Manchester United on loan during the 2000-2001 to help us out during a time when our other goalies, Fabien Barthez and Raimond Van der Gouw, were unavailable Barthez on duty with the French side and Van der Gouw struggling with injury.

His first game was our 4-2 win over Coventry in the league although was subbed off with an hour played with the scoreline at 2-2.

Donovan should give it up for the Galaxy defense

Soccerblog 25 October @ 02:05 AM EST

Gregg Berhalter is all business!

While Landon Donovan and David Beckham bask in the aftermath of the Galaxy making the playoffs, the real story in their turnaround is their defense.

31 goals given up in 2009. That is half of the 2008 total!

That is right. In 2008, the Galaxy gave up 62 goals even as they set the scoring ablaze with 55 goals.

Real served a shocker by Milan

goalpost.tv 22 October @ 04:50 AM EST
Too many errors from the goalies and a superb game play from AC Milan ensured that they dumped Real Madrid 3-2 in their Champions League encounter last night. Brazilian forward Pato who scored twice was the star for AC Milan as he proved too good for the Real keeper Iker Casillas. Playing at [...] Click to continue reading...

Surely the End for Foster

Premiership Talk Blog 05 October @ 09:24 AM EST

When it was announced that Edwin van der Sar was going to miss a large chunk of the first half of this season, as a Manchester United fan I found myself slightly excited. While van der Sar has been the cornerstone of United's rock solid defense for a few trophy-full seasons now, the entire United fan base has long been aware of a hidden gem: Ben Foster.

Video: Anderson’s crazy antics to aid Ryan Giggs’ goal against Wolfsburg

Off the Post 30 September @ 04:49 PM EST
Pulling funny faces - a sure-fire way to Champions League success Don't watch Ryan Giggs' deflected, important, but fairly unimpressive 150th goal for Manchester United. Instead, keep your eyes on Anderson. He positions himself in front of the keeper, takes up his best zombie pose and pulls faces at the goalies. Click to continue reading...

Seleção To Face Bolivia and Venezuela…

Futbolita 26 September @ 02:11 AM EST

Now would be the ideal time for Dopey to experiment seeing how the seleção have already qualified for the World Cup. What we don't get, however, is tio's love for Andre Santos!!!

Anyway, the squad for the remaining qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia has been finalised and it's nice to see Naldo and Diego Souza back again.

Euro 2008 on World Cup Blog 01 September @ 04:13 AM EST
Holland prides itself over the years to have produced so many great players. With strikers like Cruyff, Geels, Kist, Houtman, Kieft, Van Basten, Bergkamp, Kluivert, Van Nistelrooy and Huntelaar or goalies like Pieters Graafland, Hiele, Van Breukelen, Van Beveren, Menzo, De Goey and Van der Sar. The Soccerball Years, part 1

Nedved's Notes 20 August @ 04:46 PM EST
As a child there were five professional sports teams in my home town of Atlanta, Georgia. The Braves played baseball. The Falcons played American football. The basketball team was the Hawks. Surprising everyone, as winter sports are not popular in the South, we had a pro hockey team called the Flames. Click to continue reading...

D.C. United Update (Notes on Colorado match, Szetela and more)

Soccer By Ives 17 July @ 04:04 PM EST

By TRAVIS CLARK

It's been 11 days since their last competitive match, and with the Colorado Rapids heading to the nation's capital on Saturday, D.C. United will be anxious to be back home for their first league match at RFK since June 13. Their home record of 4-0-4 leaves a bit more points on the table than most team's would prefer, but they remain right in the thick of things in what is becoming a tightly-contested Eastern Conference.

Confederations Cup: United States vs. Italy report card

Intelligent Soccer » Smarter soccer is better soccer 15 June @ 08:08 PM EST

Rebecca Blackwell/Associated Press

"Yikes" is what I said when I saw Ricardo Clark throw his legs at Gennaro Guttuso.

"Awwwww," is what I said when I saw the red card above Clark's head.

I talked myself into the United States getting a draw against Italy (maybe even winning) but all my hope burst out of me when Clark was ejected in the 32nd minute.

The summer rebuild…A fans perspective..Goalkeeper.

Avenell Road 04 June @ 03:18 AM EST

After watching the Premier League and Champions League evolve over the past few years its fair to say the role of the goalkeeper has also evolved...

Gone are the days where you judged a good goalkeeper on how mental he was or if he had grave digger hands...due to the speed of todays game and certain rule changes regarding the pass back, which was introduced a few years ago its fair to say that to-days goalie has to be good with the ball at his feet too.

Review of the Week - 2

See The Cup 15 May @ 03:02 PM EST

The quarter finals of Copa do Brasil started with the promise of lots of goals. Ronaldo, Fred, Nilmar... There was a great amount of names. The star of the night, however, in the two most promising matches were the goalies and the post.

Corinthians 1 - 0 Fluminense: This was supposed to be a Ronaldo x Fred contest.

The No-Big-Four-Allowed EPL Team Of The Season

EPL Talk 01 May @ 11:47 AM EST

As we near the end of what has been and still is an exciting season in the EPL, the various gongs and awards are being given out. As usual, they create plenty of controversy, particularly in the case of Ryan Giggs, who was named Footballer of the Year despite only starting 12 league games this season.

Before embarking on this new chapter in Breakers' history - a pause to remember good times past. Maren? Dagney? We miss you!

No sound with this video - but that kinda makes it all the more resonant, doesn't it?
