Is this Rooney's year? As of today Wayne Rooney has 4 goals in 4 league games for his club, and 10
goals for 9 games including cup play and internatioanl games. That's a scoring rate one would not
expect Rooney to maintain, historically speaking. If you have read the football pundits about Wayne
Rooney in any of the last several years, it will have been hard to avoid glowing characterisations
of his football.

It's all about young players getting into the scoring table this last week as Chukwudi Chijindu
(Chivas), Bryan Jordan (Galaxy), and Macoumba Kandji (Red Bulls) score their first goals of the
season. Chukwudi comes to MLS this year from the University of Connecticut where he was a psych!
major, while Bryan and Macoumba came from the USL.
Numerologists will tell you that the date 9-9-09 is special. Sounds a bit far fetched, but
maybe strikers believe it.
There was a veritable goal spree in World Cup qualifying matches in Europe today, with two
countries racking up 7-0 victories. Here are a few fun facts from today's Europe matches:
- 72 goals were scored in 25 matches
- 48 goals were scored by the home teams
- 24 goals were scored by the away teams
England, Spain, and Netherlands have now each qualified for the World Cup with eight
straight wins.
Up and coming young strikers in the MLS Goals, we crave goals. The USA is not Italy, quality
defending is great but we like the sound of the ball hitting the back of the net. Rookies,
players new to the MLS, and the under 25 crowd may be providing us this excitement. We've started a
focus on [...]
Here's a short video tribute to Charlie Davies who was seriously injured in a car crash this
last week. Charlie is a player who seemed to be really coming on and finding himself in the game.

This last weekend's tight matches kept any additional young guns from breaking into the MLS
scoring record, with only Marco Pappa, Arturo Alvarez, and Ryan Johnson adding to their goal
tallies, all from the San Jose - Chicago goal fest.
The "old" guys made a bit of a comeback with Brian McBride leading the way in showing that
having a couple extra miles under the tires does not keep one from scoring an excellent goal.
As we get psyched up for another weekend of MLS soccer, let's check in on which young strikers
are hot.
The young talent who've netted this season is spread across 11 teams so far. Seattle, Chicago,
and San Jose each have three different young players who've scored, the Sounders getting 5 goals
from their efforts.
