It was a truly exquisite piece of genius by Samir Nasri in the Arsenal win over Porto back in March
last season. He had the ball over on the right wing, and was being watched by one of the Porto
defenders. He looked up and immediately decided to go it alone. He jimked to the left and [...]
Two more Wizards are up for year end awards. Kei Kamara's goal against the Philadelphia Union is up
for goal of the year. And goalkeeper, Jimmy Nielsen is up for save of the year, with 6 nominees.
I'd stopped posting when players were up for the weekly award due to the nature of the voting. It
became an exercise in futility as fans of New York, Seattle, and others set up voting bots that
flood the system.
The voting for MLS goal of the year is down to 5 finalists. That list of the 5 finalists does
not contain the clear winner in my mind which was Gallardo's full volley from an impossible (well
at least tough) angle. That is a different story though.
The KC Wizards official blog has asked readers to vote for anyone other than NYRB goalkeeper
Danny Cepero's goal.
Just a heads up that I'll be closing the voting at midnight EST tonight on each of the three
polls from the last week. Really surprised by the good amount of responses for all of the polls, so
thanks to those who have taken part. I'll have an individual post with the results from each in the
next few days.
This is the inaugural year for a brand new FIFA award. The FIFA Puskás Award will be presented to
the scorer of the best goal of each year. Ten goals have been nominated by FIFA and now it will be
voted on by users of FIFA.com.
The end of the year is nearing; you may have noticed. So what to do at the end of the year?
Conclude it well, of course. And what better place to start with a look back over the year than to
look at the thing we all love most about this [...]
Michael Essien's oh-so-glorious volley against Barcelona is one of ten goals nominated for the
FIFA Puskás Award, "bestowed upon the player from either the men's or women's game judged to have
scored the best goal of the year."
The likes of Ronaldo, Torres, Iniesta (blah), Nilmar, Adebayor and Grafite a personal favorite
among others, are also in the running.
Voting for the AT&T Goal of the Year and Degree Men Save of the Year awards ends TODAY. Get your
last-minute votes in and help Claudio Lopez, Davy Arnaud and Kevin Hartman in their quest for an
end-of-season Play of the Year honor.
The voting for the AT&T Goal of the Year and Degree Men Save of the Year awards ends tomorrow. Get
your last-minute votes in and help Claudio Lopez, Davy Arnaud and Kevin Hartman in their quest for
an end-of-season Play of the Year honor.
Speaking of highlights, don't forget to vote for Davy Arnaud or Claudio Lopez for the AT&T Goal of
the Year award and for Kevin Hartman for the Degree Men Save of the Year award.
The Wizards had 4 goals up for Goal of the Year, and 2 of those goals have made it to the final 10,
one from each Davy Arnaud and Claudio Lopez. Arnaud's goal is his blast from the first game of the
season against Toronto. Lopez's goal is his shot from midfield that looped in over Donovan
Ricketts.
That's right folks, both Davy Arnaud and Claudio Lopez remain in the running for the AT&T Goal of
the Year. Kevin Hartman is also a finalist for the Degree Men Save of the Year. Help them win the
first end-of-season Play of the Year award in Wizards history!
First of all, go vote for the AT&T Goal of the Year and Degree Men Save of the Year awards. Both
Arnaud and Lopez are up twice for the Goal of the Year honor and Hartman is up three times for the
Save of the Year award. You can find links to the highlights of these plays at previous posts
below.
Vote for Claudio or Davy. They both are nominated twice. Claudio's goals include his beautiful free
kick in week 10 against Chivas and week 19's shot from the middle of the field against LA. Davy's
goals include the week 1 blast against Toronto and the week 13 goal against New England. I have
hard time deciding my favorite.
Year end award nominees are coming out, and while no Wizards players are up the big awards, 3
Wizards are nominated for 2 awards.
Davy Arnaud and Claudio Lopez are both up twice for goal of the year. Arnaud's first blast against
Toronto on the opening week of the season is one of his two nominated goals.
Attackers Davy Arnaud and Claudio Lopez are both up twice for the AT&T Goal of the Year award. Davy
is nominated for his long-range, left-footed bomb in Week 1 and a give-and-go and give-and-go
effort in Week 13. Lopez is up for his free kick in Week 10 and his past-the-halfline bomb in Week
19.
Four Wizards are up for End of the Year awards from MLS.
First, the Wizards have two goals up for the MLS Goal of the Year. The first nominee is Davy
Arnaud's long range blast against the LA Galaxy at Arrowhead stadium. The other nominee is Josh
Wolff's bicycle kick against Chivas USA a few weeks later.
Obafemi Martins! The official club site poll to pick the Goal of the Year has reach its
final conclusion and announced Martins strike against Spurs as the winner.
Martins goal when Newcastle playing Spurs at White Hart Lane in January 14, 2007 collected 49%
votes from a total of 2,000 voters.
