Philadelphia Union fans have been dealt heavy blows of late. Their veteran goalkeeper was sent away
and within days, the face of their franchise was traded away and not to the glamour of the English
Premier League. Rather, Sebastien Le Toux is finding his way up north, to Vancouver.
Officially, Le Toux was let go for allocation money.
A week is a long time in football. Seven days ago we were preparing for a league game against
Manchester United, a game from which we hoped to get points, primarily, and restore some confidence
after a couple of miserable results previously. Clearly that worked out well.
We've spent the last week poring over that game, the incidents, the manager's decision making
and everything else.

Division One action yesterday, once I finally found the bloody stadium. The game had been moved to
Ramkamheng because of the flooding that had effected Air Force's usual stadium but was the stadium
easy to find? Was it bollocks. Every bugger I asked either knew nothing about it or pointed me
unhelpfully to Rajamangala which is nearby.
Three years ago it was Singaporeans who flocked to play in Indonesia. Now it is the turn of
Malaysians to be attracted by the glamour and chaos.

The glamour of modern football eh?

During the friendly against Uruguay, it was not only the style of play expectorated out by our boys
in blue that caught the eye, nor simply Riccardo Montolivo's pale, cold, and bewitching face, and
more than just Cesare Prandelli's jacket, it was the dazzling new blue shirts worn by the Azzurri
that truly slapped the mind of this restless footballing warrior (apologies to Elton John for that
metaphor) with the cold hand of seduction, perfumed on the wrist with a heady glamour tinged with
the unearthly fumes of nostalgia, all the while softly intoning in a luscious Pisan accent a call
for it's soft, azure fabric to be worn in sickness and in health, an irresistible siren's call from
an antique realm.
Glamour is not a word that will be used to describe Bolton's clash with Stoke on Sunday but
nevertheless it is still an incredibly important to both sides and could well be significant to how
they fare this season. Based ...

The glamour of sports broadcasting: McNamara (left) with Dave Beasant
Desperate to get out of Goodison and back home in time for James May's Man Lab, the Everton
security guards had finally had enough of Beeb journo Conor McNamara's witterings and so decided to
interrupt his broadcast and tell the Irishman to sling his hook.

Liverpool Assistant manager Steve Clarke is looking forward to Tuesday's game against Rangers, and
believes that it could be an ideal chance to give some of the club's youngsters a run-out.
Clarke, who described the game as a 'glamour tie', enthused:
"It's always nice to go back to Scotland.

The Finnish Third Division doesn't sound like the most exciting league in the world, however,
that's until you meet Brazil's Marcello Matrone, who plies his trade with HIK.
You see, Matrone is determined to add a bit of showbiz glamour to the Finnish game, something he
did in rather under-rehearsed fashion when he scored against Honka recently, as you will see from
the video below.

Nope, nothing to do with Ryan, Babel is an acronym for the island province of Bangka Belitung.
Flushed with the success of a local movie, Laskar Pelangi, the islands have become a popular
tourist destination for locals looking for a bit of peace and quiet basking in the glamour of
fame.
The Depati Amir Stadium in Pangkal Pinang normally hosts local amateur team Persipas but this

The transfer window may well have closed, but nouveau riche Premier League new-boys QPR are
still pondering their next big-money buys. Topping the list is LA Galaxy assist-machine David
"Becks" Beckham, a player who is nearing the end of his three year contract with the Californian
club.
The summer verdict must be one of failure, late flourish or not. It was all left far too late,
the boss and indeed the board too had the chance to get our house in order well before the start of
the season after a shambolic late winter and spring. Look back over 2011 and there have been a
handful, literally, of victories.

It doesn't take much to bring out the obsessive in many men of any age, and this is something
that advertisers and hawkers have been aware of for a long time and acting upon this sort of
impulse with greater and greater sophistication in recent years. Football supporters, of course,
can be amongst the worst for obsessive behaviour, and one of the more obvious manifestations of
this comes in the form of football programmes.

Craig Levein has described Charlie Adam's glamour move from Blackpool to Liverpool as like

We're taking a brief break from our lengthy (and, let's face it, exhausting) series of
Premier League previews for a couple of days in order to bring you some round-ups on the state of
the Football League, prior to its kick-off this weekend. Rob Freeman will be bringing you our (or,
if they're hopelessly inaccurate, "his") predictions for the coming season over the next three
days, but first of all here's a brief synopsis of the state of play as League Two prepares to gird
its loins for the new season.
First comes Vogue, second comes Glamour Espana, next comes a 24 karat shrine

Is a shiny-new show pony really what we need? asks Chris Pryke Benzema, Melo, Chiellini? Reina?
Ronaldinho?! The likelihood of these exotic talents landing in North London to take up Thierry's
mantle and sweep Arsenal to a new age of CL glitz and PL glamour seems slimmer than the supermodel
girlfriends of these showponies.
Mrs Jamie Redknapp. As every press opp's best friend, we should've never doubted you. But we
did, because you wore this, this and THAT recently.
By now, you've collected enough paychecks to know how to work a camera lens, we realise.
Throughout your style trials and tribulations, however, we've fostered a weird (we) love (you)/(we)
hate (your outfit) relationship with your red carpet looks.
I am never surprised by the lengths people go to spend their hard earned cash when it comes to
football. In fact I too am guilty perhaps of spending a rupiah or two too much in my pursuit of the
beautiful game.
But would I go and see a bunch of ex pros with their beer bellies huff, puff and sweat under the
lights of an indoor arena in the oh so cynically exploitive EPL Legends?
Earlier this month, Neil Cotton visited the Hampshire Senior Cup final, and used the match
as an opportunity to reflect upon the peculiar pleasures of cup football in general.
It's almost customary to refer to romance when it comes to cup competitions. There's just
something about the winner takes all simplicity which makes for Roy of the Rovers style
story-lines.
PSAP missed out on the chance of Indonesia Super League football, losing 1-0 to hosts Mitra Kukar
in the play offs last night.
The team from Aceh province had gone into the game worrying about match officials showing home side
bias, something they know a lot about as this story testifies.
Franco Hita scored the only goal of them securing Mitra Kukar's path to the semi finals on 50
minutes in what looks like a bad tempered game with PSAP collecting seven yellow cards and one red.

OK, we know all the glamour is in next Saturday's CL finale showdown but you can't ignore
these equally hardworking tipos!) As always, the Portuguese press including A Bola (who do
things like crawl into Cristiano Ronaldo's private jet, among other things) came up with a pretty
interesting "ode to Dublin" on today's front cover.

According to news reports on Irish radio this morning the FAI have secured a glamour friendly game
against England in February 2012. It was reported last December that the FAI were in talks with the
English Football Association to secure a friendly international between Ireland and England at the
Aviva Stadium in June next year, however due to fixture congestion in June the game is being
planned for late February.
Before I proceed I want to mention that this article is mostly speculation about the Champions
League draw and the teams in it. There won't be much about Arsenal.
Ok with that out of the way I thought I'll jot down some thoughts I had about the Champions
League quarter-final draw. While the draw is held live and involves some big names associated with
the game, I often get the feeling that it is, at least partially, rigged.
If this encounter was meant to epitomize the romance and glamour of the FA Cup, United failed to
hold up their end of the bargain with an utterly lackluster performance. In a night that was
supposed to be a big coming out party for Crawley Town and their fans, United played like they
didn't even want to be there.
How do you start a match review when the ninety minutes you've witnessed is so much more than
just a match? The rivers of bad blood these two teams share had already given the tie its opera
storyline, and if you had time to tear your eyes away from all the glamour in the papers, you would
have seen 22 world class players take to the pitch in what was, at its core, a fantastic football
match.

Ambition is not measured by what you say. If it was then Tottenham would be the biggest club in the
known universe.
No, what's important about ambition is how you set about achieving it. And it's not just the
glamour names that show ambition, it's the little touches around the club that show how how
determined the club is.
It is all too easy to get wrapped up in the glamour of Wednesday night's tie with Barcelona at
the Emirates, a clash of perhaps the two purest footballing teamsin Europe, the apprentice against
the master, if you will. It is made easier when the only fixture that stands between now and then
is a home match against the side with the worst away record in the division four points and nine
goals in twelve matches.
