The title race has turned into a title procession. Just a couple of weeks ago,
we could gloat over the most fascinating Bundesliga title race in recent years. Now we have to
conclude that Borussia Dortmund are simply far too consistent and everybody else, well, is not.
Dortmund went seven points clear at the top, with a confident win over Mainz, that only briefly
like two minutes looked to be in doubt.
Borussia Mönchengladbach are one of the biggest surprises in Europe this season. Facing
relegation at the end of last year, manager Lucien Favre has done a remarkable job in instilling a
brand new system in his players. The league table doesn't lie, and Mönchengladbach sit in second
place, above Bayern Munich and completely capable of snatching the Bundesliga title from Borussia
Dortmund.
La Liga standing as of Feb 13, 2012 (From the Guardian)
Cast your eye at the number of goals scored by each club in the fourth column from the right. At
this point is there any wonder why this is not even a two horse race anymore? The race for La Liga
is effectively over as even Pep Guardiola has all but conceded defeat, for the rest it ended in
September last year.
Impressions are still fresh, which makes it easier to indulge in hyperbole, but during the first
45 minutes against Schalke, Gladbach delivered some of the finest team football the Bundesliga has
seen this season. On top, there was a goal for every personal preference in football artistry
anyone could have: a great individual goal by Marco Reus, an even greater team goal finished off by
Mike Hanke and a beautiful goal from a free kick by Juan Arango.
'Gladbach - Bayern Munich 2:30pm ET - GolTV 1st versus 4th in the Bundesliga, with Bayern in their
historic spot at the top of the table. 'Gladbach trail by four points and 19 goals, with Bayern
picking up the season after the winter break on a three-game win streak. These two teams opened
their seasons against each other, with 'Gladbach winning 1-0 at Allianz Arena.
Back before the Bundesliga hibernation began, Jermaine Jones landed in hot water for his
hunt-and-stamp on the injured toe of Gladbach's superstar. Rather shameful really, and since then,
their fates have diverged.
Marco Reus got his big money move to Borussia Dortmund yesterday, while Jones netted a two month
suspension for a litany of offenses, prime among them his complete disrespect for the art of
subtlety.
Marco Reus, the rising star in the German Bundesliga having helped Borussia Mönchengladbach to
a respectable fourth place during the winter break, will be leaving the club at the end of the
season to play for Borussia Dortmund.
It was announced today on Mönchengladbach's website that the player will remain at the club for
the 2011-12 season before signing a five year deal with the current German champions Dortmund for a
transfer fee of 17,5 million Euros.
Bayern are catching up with Barcelona. Philipp Lahm may speak the truth but his
sense of timing is really a bit off this season. Whether it is publishing memoirs in the middle of
his career, or making bold claims a day ahead of embarrassing defeats for both Barcelona and
Bayern. He just can't get it right.
Those were 150.000 Euros not well spent for Wolfsburg. Felix Magath loaned
Aliaksandr Hleb from Barcelona for a special €100k per game and €50k per goal fee. Thus,
Magath's total expenses for Saturday's trip to Dortmund added up to €150k, not counting the
damage Dortmund's fresh in form offense caused all afternoon.
The Bundesliga is back in its 49th incarnation and Friday's curtain raiser was both wonderful
and frightening frightening at least for Bayern, Leverkusen and who else might have had vague hopes
to win the league next year.
Dortmund 3-1 Helpless SV. Defending champions Dortmund kicked off the new
season in style and with a promise of beautiful football, only they seem to be able to deliver this
season.
With the transfer windowing now finally shutting around Europe. Here is the OTWT ALL Transfer Team.

country.

Marco Reus, the Borussia M'gladbach striker, who had such a breakout game against Greece was
singled out by Arsene Wenger for some lofty praise. Wenger is at the 2012 Euro in the capacity of
TV analyst for French station TF1. The French manager when asked if he was "on the case"
with Reus, reportedly replied, "Yes.
Several things, really, but let's not blow the whole party all at once. Let's go one at a time and
then nobody has a stroke on me. I can now confirm, via 'Gladbach, that Michael Bradley has
physically left campus to travel for the purpose of completing a transfer. Adding that to what I
reported yesterday, and it's only a matter of formality and time before we can officially close
that case.
