With our next fixture coming up February 29th in Genoa against the United States, I realized
what a shame it is that Giuseppe Rossi is injured right now. Certainly, he likes to score against
his native country, he scored a brace when we met in 2009 in the Confederations Cup. But more
important than delightfully watching him punish the American team in a friendly, I wonder whether
or not he'll be able to make it back to full fitness in time for the Euros this summer?
On October 11 last year in the provincial city of Pescara, Italy ended their qualifying campaign
with a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland. It was the perfect ending as Italy finished top of their
group. It was also just reward for coach Cesare Prandelli who managed to rebuild a strong Azzurri
from the wreckage of the 2010 World Cup disaster.
Antonio Conte has been the driving force of the Juventus revolution with his aggressive 4-3-3
formation. Essential to the attack are the wingers as not only do they offer more of a threat in
the attack, they offer support for the striker as well as take attention away from the middle.
Conte inherited one of his wingers in the form of Simone Pepe, but the other wing was left vacant.

The long-rumored friendly between the United States and Italy appears to have come to
fruition.
The Italian soccer federation announced that the Azzurri will host the United States at Stadio
Luigi Ferraris in Genoa on Feb. 29, the first FIFA international fixture date of the new year.

After flirting with Arsenal and Chelsea during the summer transfer window, Gary Cahill will
likely be heading to Chelsea in January after a transfer fee was agreed upon with Bolton
Wanderers.
The central defender has become an England national team regular and will look to stabilize a
defense that will lose Alex in January and could be without John Terry for an extended period
following a criminal racism charge.
PC or Mac, Jose or Pep, Marozsan or Cramer, Champions League or Scudetto, marmite or not
marmite. All these great multiple choice just-tick-either-box-please questions that Western
civilization has devised in a futile attempt to keep itself sane pale in comparison to the greatest
dilemma of all; Alessandro Matri or Mario Balotelli.
The Italian national team was dealt a double blow with the participation of Giuseppe Rossi and
Antonio Cassano in Euro 2012 thrown into doubt, yet the emergence of Mario Balotelli could serve as
the perfect remedy for coach Cesare Prandelli's concerns.
Balotelli had a slow start to the English season but he has been scoring regularly in recent
weeks prompting Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini to praise him.
Mario Balotelli has been in scintillating form for leaders Manchester City in this season's
Premier League, with 5 goals already to his name after just 7 appearances, and a goal each in the
Champions League and the Carling Cup as well.
The 21 year old ‘s brace against Manchester United, which capped of a brilliant all-around
performance from him, is a sign that he is capable of competing and dominating at the very highest
level.

The Azzurri qualified to Euro 2012 without being tested as coach Cesare Prandelli attempted to
build the national team around younger and talented players such as Mario Balotelli and Giuseppe
Rossi. Various niggling injuries and a plethora of ridiculous antics performed by Balotelli meant
that Prandelli was not able to rely heavily on the controversial Manchester City attacker.

Bayern Munich vs Napoli from the Allianz Arena, Munich
The Bavarian giants have been in such great form as of late, their manager Juup Heynckes believes
that today's visitors from Italy should set up to counter attack them, and that's a fair point.
If the results from two weeks ago are any indication, Wednesday's UEFA Champions League matches
will be must-see TV.
Whether it was Manchester United squeaking past little-known Otelul Galati, Manchester City
dramatically taking three points off Villarreal with Sergio Aguero's stoppage-time goal, Real
Madrid putting on an attacking clinic against Lyon or Bayern Munich and Napoli taking each others'
best shots and settling for a draw, the last round of UCL games provided plenty of
entertainment.

Villarreal will be without Cristian Zapata, Cani, Marco Ruben and Marcos Senna for their Group A
meeting with Manchester City, while Javier Camuñas is doubtful.
These injuries are in addition to Giuseppe Rossi, who is out for six months, after knee surgery
earlier this week.
The most serious of the other injuries appears to be to Zapata, who strained a ligament in his
right knee during Saturday's 2-0 Liga win against Rayo Vallecano, an injury which is likely to
sideline him for five weeks.

Whoever Spurs aim to buy in January it won't be Giuseppe Rossi after the Italian was ruled out
for the next six months with a cruciate injury that he sustained in Villarreal's 3-0 to Real Madrid
in the week.
Harry Redknapp has admitted interest on several occasions in the past but this setback has ruled
out any potential move for the striker this winter.

Kisses and good vibes to Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi, (seen here with the Italian NT on
10/5/11), who underwent surgery for ligament damage to his knee and is expected to be out for six
months. He tweeted that the surgery had gone well and now we can only send him oodles of love in
hopes that it fuels this bambino's recovery.
Villareal and Italy striker Giuseppe Rossi will be sidelined for at least six months after
suffering a cruciate ligament tear an hour into his sides 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid in mid
week.
Rossi is set to have surgery today and will join team-mate Neymar on the sidelines after the
Brazilian had surgery on his knee earlier this month.

Huge blow for Villarreal who will be without striker Giuseppe Rossi for six months after tearing
a cruciate knee ligament in his right knee. The 24-year-old Italian international got hurt in last
nights's match against Real Madrid, and subsequent tests have shown the full extent of the
injury.
Giuseppe Rossi's season has come to a screeching halt.
Rossi's club Villarreal confirmed that the New Jersey-born striker tore his right ACL against
Real Madrid in Wednesday's 3-0 loss at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, and he will have to miss the next
six months of action.
Coming off a the best season of his career to date, the 24-year-old Rossi had scored five goals
in all competitions for Villarreal this season including two in UEFA Champions League play.
The El Clasico teams of Barcelona and Real Madrid have continued their battle for superiority at
the top of the Spanish Primera Division this season, with both facing tricky fixtures over the next
three weeks.

Valencia finished third last season and on their day have the ability to take on the big two;
they host Madrid on Saturday 19th November at the Mestalla.

Bob Mancini was the first to admit that Man City were 'lucky' to register their first ever
Champions League victory over Villarreal yesterday evening, with substitute Sergio Aguero's 94th
minute goal plundering a come-from-behind win over the Spaniards at the death thus snaring a vital
three-point haul that puts City back in the running to emerge from Group A, despite things looking
a little bleak as the clock ticked over to '93:00′ at the Etihad last night.

Manchester City FC's Champions League hopes seemed to over when Sergio Agüero stepped up and
scored the virtually the last kick of the game to give Roberto Mancini's side an unlikey 2-1
victory over Villarreal. City's victory takes them on to four points, one behind second-placed
Napoli in Group A, while after a third defeat Villarreal need a miracle when the teams reconvene in
Spain on 2 November.

Sergio Aguero rescued Manchester City with a goal with the last kick of the game as the UEFA
Champions League newcomers retained hope of advancing to the knockout rounds with a 2-1 win over
Villarreal.
Pablo Zabaleta fired a low cross in front of goal in the third minute of stoppage time and David
Silva failed to make contact at the near post but the ball found its way to Aguero, who made no
mistake from close range.
Manchester City have been rising as a pretty dominant force in the premier league since last
season and currently already managed to top the league table, however, they're yet to pick up a
victory in Europe.
Answering this issue, the Eastlands star midfielder, David Silva, thinks that the fact that
they've only played two matches in the Champions League and all of them were against top teams,
could be the reason they haven't managed a victory as just yet.
As we head into the international break, here are the top scorers in La Liga after six
matches.
- 8: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
- 7: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
- 5: Radamel Falcao (Atletico Madrid) Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid) Roberto Soldado
(Valencia)
- 4: Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona) Miku (Getafe) Santi Cazorla (Malaga) Imanol Agirretxe (Real
Sociedad)
- 3: Fernando Llorente (Athletic Bilbao) David Villa (Barcelona) Raul Garcia (Osasuna) Michu
(Rayo Vallecano) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) Luis Garcia (Real Zaragoza) Alvaro Negredo (Sevilla)

A stunning late comeback from Malaga maintained their position at the top of the La Liga. The
Andalusian side were briefly knocked off the top by Valencia, but they defeated Getafe 3-2 to
reclaim pole position on Saturday.
Getafe led 2-1 in the 88th minute remaining courtesy of goals from Pedro Leon and substitute
Nicolas Fedor Miku, either side of Ruud van Nistelrooy's equaliser.

Bayern Munich vs Manchester City from the Allianz Arena, Munich
No question, this is the match of the day with the Bavarian giants, who have had a fantastic start
to this season both domestically and on the continent, against the blue half of Manchester.
Remember the Confederations Cup? For the most part, we try not to. But there was one game and
one very bright spot within that game that I do like to remember. The game was against the USA, and
the bright spot was Giuseppe Rossi. [read more]
Villarreal picked up their first win of the new La Liga season on Tuesday night, beating Real
Mallorca 2-0. Giuseppe Rossi and Nilmar scored early in each half although the hosts could have
scored even more as they enjoyed a return to form at El Madrigal.
On another night Rossi could have had a hat-trick but it mattered little as the Yellow Submarine
ended a winless start to the season that had seen them second from bottom at kick-off.

5. La Liga: Oops, Wrong Scoreline
Levante took down Mourinho's Madrid in an unexpected win at home. Bigger? Granada with its first
win in 35 years in La Liga by beating reeling Villarreal in a chippy affair that saw the
recently-promoted El Graná survive seven yellow cards without a red attached.

Concerns over whether Timmy Chandler was really considering playing for the German national team
were put to rest by Chandler's agent, who told SI.com there was nothing to the rumor that made the
rounds earlier in the week.

Manchester City vs Napoli from the Etihad Stadium, Manchester
This is going to be a special match for both clubs, as it's the first time they have both taken
part in the European Cup in many, many years, and the first time under the reformed Champions
League.
While many supporters and pundits will stress on the missed opportunities to sign a top class
striker such as Sergio Aguero and Giuseppe Rossi, Juve's weaknesses might surface in the lack of a
quality backup for the full-backs and the ...
A early Antonio Cassano goal gave Italy a 1-0 away victory and with this victory it almost seals
their passage to Euro 2012 next summer. With a the player strike on in Serie A last week, most of
the Italy starting XI hasn't played a competitive match this season and it started to show on later
on in the game.
