UEFA Euro 2008: Soccer Haus' Euro 2008 All-Stars

The Soccer Haus 29 June @ 10:00 PM EST
To put the finishing touches on Euro 2008, here's my tournament all-star team and MVP. I'll go with an aggressive 3-5-2 formation, which should be fine since the defenders are so good.
Goaltender: Iker Casillas, Spain
Defenders: Hamit Altintop, Turkey; Carlos Puyol, Spain; Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, Holland
Midfielders: Andrei Arshavin, Russia; Michael Ballack, Germany; Luka Modric, Croatia; Wesley Sneijder, Holland; Xavi, Spain
Forwards: Semih Senturk, Turkey; David Villa, Spain
It's a testament to Spain's team that I'm having such a hard time picking a tournament MVP. Click to continue reading...

Day 11 - I love the 80s

The Far Post 18 June @ 08:56 AM EST

Celtics, Italy, and the Netherlands win. It's an 80's flashback!

Damn, France sucks. I'm not even sure they could beat the U.S. Italy worked hard and grinded out a 2 – nill victory. The Netherlands' side continued to roll posting an impressive 2 – nill victory over a hustling Romania.

Day 3 - Lucky and Good

The Far Post 10 June @ 02:28 AM EST

The so-called "Group of Death" was dead boring until the Netherlands started counterattacking like Bruce Lee. The second and third goals were some of the best team soccer I've seen in a long time.

Confused

Stuff I'm totally confused about:

  • Baby blue socks?

Euro 2008: Netherlands 3-0 Italy - Azzurri Crushed in their Tournament Opener, Or: Cannavaro Where Art Thou?

mCalcio 09 June @ 06:25 PM EST
Netherlands 0-3 Italy. The Azzurri's adventure at Euro 2008 could not have started worse. 3 goals like the 3 words which can be used to describe today's match: offside, counter-attack, and defense (or lack thereof). Why offside? The pivotal point of the match (Italy's poor performance aside) was without question the controversial non-call on Ruud van Nistelrooy's [. Click to continue reading...

Netherlands 3-0 Italy

Twohundredpercent 09 June @ 04:47 PM EST
...And as if by magic, the Dutch and the Italians arrived. Barely half an hour after I finished writing about a match that was described (accurately) by Alan Hansen as "one of the worst games of football I've ever seen", they kicked off in Berne for a match that has finally kicked some life into the body of Euro 2008.
