Yesterday we looked at the possibility of new arrivals at White Hart Lane and the general
consensus was that we were due for a quiet day. Later in the evening, reports suggested that Vedran
Corluka was a target for Bayer Leverkusen and they seem to be gaining momentum this morning.
At the start of the month, Harry said that the Croatian would definitely not be leaving but
after omitting him from the cup games where much of the fringe side appear, it may well be that
Charlie is on his way.
Reports have been coming through today that a permanent deal for Giovani dos Santos could be
tied up before the weekend. There has been much speculation about Gio's future since the transfer
window opened and according to Villareal's vice-president Jose Manuel Llaneza, Gio's White Hart
Lane misery could soon be at and end.
The frustrating Tottenham career of Giovani do Santos could finally be coming to an end in this
transfer window with reports of interest from Spain and from Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle. Gio
hinted at his potential again this month, albeit against Cheltenham, and after the game manager
Harry Redknapp hailed his talent while giving an insight into why the player has barely featured at
the Lane.
Many of Spurs' fringe players have been linked with a move away from the club and generally
speaking, rumours about possible departures for the likes of Vedran Corluka and Steven Pienaar have
been met with a clear ‘no' from Harry Redknapp.
That hasn't been the case with Gio Dos Santos however and after the manager is believed to have
vetoed a last minute move in the summer, it now seems that he is finally prepared to let the
Mexican go.
The Europa League has given some good opportunities for some of our younger players to gain some
experience and the group games have probably been influential in the new contracts earned by Tom
Carroll and Jake Livermore last week.
It has also given some of our fringe players a rare chance to operate in the first team but with
European elimination looking likely, this could be the last chance for some of them to shine.

If you believe certain parts of the press this week, Malaga are the club with money to burn and
they are set to approach Spurs in January with two very different £20m offers.
The first, and marginally more likely is an offer for Aaron Lennon, who has made an impressive
return to the Spurs first team with a goal and three assists in his last two games.
When Giovani Dos Santos' proposed move to Sevilla was blocked by Spurs this summer, the Mexican
was anticipating more game time at the Lane as a result.
However, we are now half way towards another transfer window and that hope has yet to
materialise. At the time, Gio said,
"After such a long time without having any confidence in me I am now going to get my chance, which
makes me feel weird.
Much of the praise following last night's match was directed towards Giovanni dos Santos as the
Mexican turned in his best performance in a Tottenham shirt.
Gio was at the heart of the Tottenham comeback, putting in the cross for Pav's goal before
spraying a Hoddle-esque pass out to Townsend on the left that led to the second.
There was one notable absentee from the list of deadwood that needed clearing in this summer's
transfer window but if you believe this morning's reports, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp blocked a
move for Giovanni Dos Santos, thereby preventing a deadwood ‘clean sweep'.
Gio was unavailable for much of Tottenham's pre-season campaign due to his international
responsibilities for Mexico, but despite some dazzling displays for his country, he hasn't been
considered for any of the club's opening games.
With several players still linked with Spurs as we head towards the last 24 hours of this
transfer window, it looks like being a far busier day for Tottenham than it was 12 months ago.
Meanwhile, there is much hope that some of the deadwood will be off the books and the first to
leave could be Wilson Palacios with news of an £8m deal to Stoke expected very shortly.

It is a dawn of a new day for the US Men's National Team. Jurgen Klinsmann's first game as the
US coach is a big one, against arch-rival Mexico. There is no way of getting around it, this one
will be anything but friendly.
As the news came through yesterday that Giovanni dos Santos' sell-on clause was about to expire,
it seemed completely plausible that his miserable stint at Spurs was due to come to a close.
The deal that brought Gio to the Spurs included a clause that entitled Barcelona to a 10% rake
off of any future transfer fee, but with that reportedly set to run out, Spurs are free to pocket
all of the cash.
It looks like the future of Giovani dos Santos may well be settled before the start of the
season with several overseas clubs being lined up as candidates for the Mexican's signature.
Sevilla were being touted as a likely destination at one point but it later emerged that the
Spanish outfit were only interested in a loan deal,
"Tottenham want a sale but at the moment Sevilla are only interested in a loan with the first
option to buy," said club president Jose Maria Del Nido.
Harry had wanted a quiet pre-season but Kevin Bond's comedy tumbleweed was just ridiculous'It's oh
so quiet, ssshhhh, ssshhhh'. Let that be the first and last time Bjork is ever paraphrased on this
previously refutable publication.
The girl's got a point though. There's little activity in the world of Spurs these days, unless you
choose to include meaningless transfer gossip as 'activity'.
While Harry Redknapp stated at the weekend that Spurs will have to sell before they buy, we'll
have a look this week at some of the fringe players in the squad and ask whether they should be
offloaded or whether they should be given one more chance to prove their worth at the Lane.
The most frustrating of this surplus stock has to be Giovanni dos Santos and at the weekend, the
player highlighted that perfectly once again.
Out of favour Tottenham striker Giovani Dos Santos once again proved his worth for
Mexico after he helped his country overcome the United States 4-2 in the CONCAF Gold Cup
final.
Trailing 2-0 after a poor start, Mexico rallied back with aplomb and a double strike by Pablo
Barrera either side of by a goal by midfielder Jose Guardado put the Mexicans back in control at
the at the Rose Bowl.
Johnny Two-Saints finishes off Chicharito's hard work and seals the Gold Cup final for Mexico. The
bandwagon is growing. Why shouldn't GDS be Rafael Van Der Vaart's understudy at Spurs? VDV can't
finish matches because he's too fragile. Why not have GDS available with fresh legs to come into
those matches?
Giovanni Dos Santos continues to impress while on international duty with Mexico and at the same
time he frustrates Spurs fans as he shows talent never before seen at White Hart Lane.
While Racing Santander seem reluctant to convert their loan signing into something more
permanent, it seems that Sevilla may now be ready to step in and line the player up as a
replacement for former Spurs man Freddie Kanoute.
Gold Cup: Mexico routs Cuba & Costa Rica survive scare - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Note to every team in the Gold Cup: if you play Mexico build a big first half lead if you want
to win the match. For the second straight match El Tri played a close first half – this time
taking a 1-0 lead over Cuba into the locker room – only to explode in the second half for their
second straight 5-0 victory.
There are many ‘forgotten men' in the ranks at White Hart Lane and when you compile a list of
players who could be up for transfer, it's easy to omit some of our fringe squad.
Giovani dos Santos fits into that category perfectly but his performance for Mexico against New
Zealand may have put him firmly in the shop window once again.
Mexico warmed up for defense of its CONCACAF Gold Cup in much the same fashion that 'El Tri'
walked off with the title two years ago in a rout.
Mexico, which beat the U.S. 5-0 to claim the 2009 cup, delivered a similar undressing to New
Zealand at Invesco Field on Wednesday night. Even with the team's best forward resting in
preparation of the start of Gold Cup play, Mexico had more than enough firepower against the All
Whites.
