Inter's wheels are coming off. After such a strong push to within sniffing distance of Milan and
Juve, they have lost to lowly Lecce, drew Palermo and yesterday, Roma took the lumber to them. Juan
gets the Giallorossi on the board, Fabio Borini's lovely brace follows, and the Bojan Krkic
finishes emphatically to give Roma a thumping 4-0 victory.

Roma legend and skipper Francesco Totti broke the Serie A scoring record for a single club after
managing to score a quick double on Saturday during the 5-1 win over Cesena. The two goals scored
by Totti brought his tally to 211 goals with the Giallorossi in the Italian top flight.
Totti has now played 486 times in Serie A and scored 211 goals to beat the record of Swedish
legend Gunnar Nordahl who managed to score 210 goals for Milan in league play.
This weekend saw lots of action in the Serie A: a furious downpour which forced the
suspension of a game; a feisty, highly-anticipated derby; and some very decisive wins. The result?
The Serie A standings have been, to borrow from the late, great Elvis Presley, "all shook
up"!
On Saturday, Roma travelled South to Sicily to take on Catania.
The Christmas break is over. This can only mean one thing: it's now time to put down the
panettone and get back to calcio! The Serie A season resumed this weekend – and no
holiday hangovers here; there was no shortage of action!
Perhaps still recovering from jet-setting-induced jet lag, Milan and Juventus, the league's
joint leaders, both seemed to be struggling to get back into the swing of things with difficult
wins against Atalanta and Lecce, respectively, on Sunday.
Roma relieved all pressure on their previously under-fire boss Luis Enrique with a Sunday evening
victory at Napoli's San Paolo. Lining-up without regulars Miralem Pjanic, Fernando Gago and Simon
Kjaer, the Giallorossi took the lead after just three minutes. Erik Lamela's cross deflected off
Salvatore Aronica and bounced over the line after striking ‘keeper Morgan De Sanctis' arm: a
freak goal,.

As we learned last week, Christmas cheer may be high all across the Serie A, but come the
weekend, festivities had to be put on hold for some actual football. This weekend's round of
fixtures was the penultimate before the winter break. So what happened this weekend?
On Saturday, current reigning champions Milan retook their place at the top of the table with a
hard-won victory over struggling Siena.
All across the Serie A, 'tis the season! The holiday season is in full swing – and
throughout the Italian peninsula, Serie A clubs have indulged in some very special celebrations.
Here's a random sampling of all the Christmas cheer.
The Napoli boys participated in a rather interesting photo shoot, the product of which will
serve as next year's annual calendar.

In his apartment in New York City, Marco, a devotee of the Church of AS Roma, sits hunched
over his laptop, mesmerized by the match streaming from his screen - his beloved Giallorossi are
playing.
Udinese represented a challenge that, as Serie A Weekly suggested last week, would prove pivotal
for new Roma and so it came to pass in an evening from which few positives could be taken. The
‘Zebrette', in many ways, are Roma's antithesis. Franceso Guidolin started his managerial career
in 1988, the same year in which Luis Enrique made his senior playing debut in La Liga.
A few words from the editor It is with great pleasure I welcome back Stuart Harper after a recent
absence to the pages of Serie A Weekly. Stuart has been one of our best received writers during the
last year and his coverage of AS Roma has surely been missed, welcome back Stu! Whether other
tifosi feel the same it is hard to say, but for this particular Romanista, watching Roma this year.

malgrado alcune polemiche proprio sull'allenatore.
Sunday marks this season's first addition of the Derby della Capitale, as Rome's two fierce
rivals face each other at the Stadio Olimpico. In a season where Serie A looks to be wide open,
winning a tense clash like this could put the wind in a team's sails and propel them towards the
top of the table, so despite the fact this game appears early in the schedule it could have long
term implications for both squads.

A.S. Roma have announced the capture of 21-year old starlet Miralem Pjanic from French giants
Olympique Lyonnais for a transfer fee reported to be around £9 million .
Pjanic, who struggled to follow up to a sensation 2009-10 season last year, has attracted from
the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the past but it turned out to be a revamped
Giallorossi side that eventually swooped for him on the transfer deadline day.
Serie A Weekly welcome guest writer Steven Van Duyse to our crew with an eye to U.S. Lecce. Find
out more about on the potential of the Giallorossi in 2011-2012 as Steve lets us know if these
Southerners will be more than Serie A bottom feeders in their second season up from Serie B calcio.
Lecce narrowly avoided the drop last season, five points clear of the relegation zone.
Last year's campaign saw Roma possess the second worst defensive record of Serie A's top twelve
teams and worryingly, an inferior concession rate to all but one of the three sides demoted to
Serie B. Therefore and understandably, Luis Enrique made buying a keeper his priority and finally
secured the services of Dutch giant Maarten Stekelenburg.

Roma have grabbed the transfer spotlight as they have closed a deal to bring in Barcelona's
Bojan Krkic. The transfer fee is reported to be 12 million euros, but it is a somewhat convoluted
deal that includes a 13 million euro buy-back clause after the 2012-13 season that Roma can negate
by paying an additional 28 million.
As news broke of Roma's latest signing, Serie A Weekly turned to Spanish football expert David
Cartlidge to find out more about a man replacing Fulham-bound John Arne Riise at left-back for the
Giallorossi. Here's his view; The transition over the years for Spanish players going to Italy and
plying their trade has been a one mostly of an underwhelming nature, but a young man from.
Roma are the latest Serie A side to be linked with Liverpool defender Emiliano Insua. "I have
spoken to Walter Sabatini," said his agent.
The 22-year-old Argentine was very close to Fiorentina and Juventus in January, but opted to join
Galatasaray on loan instead.
Now he is back at Anfield and it seems as if the Giallorossi are making a bid for the left-back.

Losing Michael Essien for a possible six months because of a serious injury simply has simply
worried Chelsea's manager, Andre Villas-Boas, considering the Ghanian has always been an important
player for the Blues' midfield.
In order to keep the team strong for next summer, reports emerged that the former FC Porto
tactician is keen on acquiring As Roma's star midfield player, Daniele De Rossi, who is being
considered as the perfect replacement for Essien.
In what was a turmoil ridden campaign for the Giallorossi, there were always going to be
causalities – the question is, will ‘il capitano futuro', the disaffected Daniele De Rossi,
follow Philippe Mexes out of Rome? Understandably, vultures in the form of European football's big
guns are circling over Roma's carcass, hoping to pick from the bones of last season, before Thomas
di Benedetto can.
Get it?It's another catch-up.(jazz hands)Yes, it's time for a little goodie tray/other output
linkery.Let's start with the freshness:Who is up for a AS Roma wishlist update? Gosh where to
start? First, despite the oddly grumpy reaction out of L.A. at the news of their interest, the
Giallorossi do not seem to have lost their Landon Donovan crush any.
The season ended a mere five days ago, and yet fantacalcio is already in full swing. Thomas Di
Benedetto's new look AS Roma seem certain to change coach this summer- maybe- and the side have
already been linked with no less than five potentially new allenatori: nearly one per day since the
win over Sampdoria.
That's the season done and dusted, now the real entertainment can begin – a summer of wild
speculation, fervent anticipation and the foundations laid for future success. But with the dust
barely settled upon a bittersweet campaign, it's time to take stock of a number of key issues. Roma

giallorossi serviva un punto per la matematica certezza di poter essere, il prossimo anno, in
Europa League, mentre i doriani salutavano la Serie A dopo aver conosciuto addirittura la

While Roma's new management may have a crush on Landon Donovan, it seems the feeling is not mutual.
I'm not sure why he's bothered that a club has interest in him, but it would appear that the
Giallorossi need move down their list.Of course, Da Bruce's statement is not exactly accurate.
Everybody knows by know Donovan's had real interest over the last five years even before this time.
The league doesn't lie; it merely reveals an incontestable truth that Udinese (and heavens forbid
Lazio), deserve a tilt at Champions League football certainly more so than the Giallorossi. Now,
and with one game remaining, the question for Roma is whether or not the prospect of Europa Cup
football is a blessing or a curse.

Often I view the end of the European soccer season as a silly time, because every player with
any talent (and some without) are rumored to be acquired by one club or another. This speculation
extends to MLS because the league has shown that it is capable of developing talent and playing a
high level of soccer.
The ink is barely dry, and already the size of the task awaiting Roma's new owner is emphatically
clear. Rather than welcome Di Benedetto with successive home wins, the Giallorossi succumbed to
league and cup defeats, scuppering any hopes of a honeymoon period for the American regime. Having
triumphed against the odds in Udine, the visit of an ailing Palermo side appeared to be an
attractive.
AC Milan maintained their three-point lead at the top of Serie A by winning 2-1 at Fiorentina.
Lazio moved up to fourth with a 2-0 victory over Parma to spoil Franco Colomba's first match in
charge. Luca Toni scored a late winner to earn Juventus a 3-2 win against his former club
Genoa.
Udinese's hopes of playing in the Champions League next season were dealt a further blow with
their second consecutive defeat, a 2-1 reverse at home to Roma.
There was no tearful gesturing to the Curva Sud. There were no boots or shirt tossed to the Roma
faithful. Instead, there was a forlorn limp towards the dugout as the Stadio Olimpico scoreboard
glowed ‘AS Roma 0-0 Juventus'. Unbeknown at the time, Philippe Mexes had played his last game in
the famed Giallorossi his last gift (at that time), a clean sheet.
With a temporary hiatus created by the international break, here at Serie A Weekly we grasp this
opportune moment to reflect on Roma's overall picture – considering the humdrum of league action
along with the grander and seemingly complicated scheme of things Since Genoa bounced back off the
ropes to land Claudio Ranieri a fatal blow, the giallorossi are unbeaten in the league, an
admirable.
